We must have already almost out sold the last one in Turkey, right? And Turkey is a lot bigger and a lot more into football.

Edit: just looked it up - we're 2/3 the way there. Turkey had 300k total

The sports media is controlled by Rugby Heads. Deep down they see Football, or in their view "soccer" as a threat so they will rubbish us at every chance they get and ignore the fact that Rugby numbers dramatically dwindling. Look at all the Rugby Clubs in Wellington that have disappeared in recent years.

What we need is more Jason Pines in the media. Capital Football need to get on the front foot on this issue but I will not hold my breath.

I've seen a few articles on the Herald website - building up to the tournament opener this weekend. Stuff / Doom Post either really don't get how significant this tournament is or are treating football with their usual contempt. Either way same old same old.

Yeah.  Impressively bitter if they have chosen to only paste something as important as this for the game and nations profile over that.

Evidence would suggest though.

The recent Radio NZ interview with the CEO of the U20 WC was along similar lines. The stupid reporter kept banging on about "filling up the stadiums", and were they going to "give away" lots of tickets so that it would not be a "bad look" on TV

I really can't believe NZ media at times. The tournement has not started and we are already getting the negative stories about percieved low ticket sales. They have sold 200,000...which is amazingly good for a youth tournament. FFS. The average sales per game is about 3800. We could certainly double that with on the day walk up sales and then that average will further be pushed up by big sales at the other NZ games and semi's etc. So we can expect average sales of around 7000 per game IMO. Which would give you a total of over 300,000 for the whole thing. So thats close to the Cricket WC total of 320,000...it could be even higher.

How people in the media can get a negative story out of that is unbelievable......It happens every time for football in NZ. The narrative always goes negative and it usually starts with tickets sales. I'm not usually into conspiracy theories but you have to admit.....there are a lot of NZ journalists who have it in for football.

The Eden Park 2014 annual report records the croud at the 2014 Rugby Junior World Cup final as ....... wait for it ..........5,600.

The equivalent football final has already sold 15k - 20k and will sell out.

Our rugby obsessed press are not only shark at what they do, with very few exceptions, they lack basic integrity.

P.S. Here's a challenge for any "journalists" trolling this thread. Get the 2014 Junior Rugby WC attendances from the Auckland Council who hold the records and compare them to the "slow" ticket sales for the FIFA U20 WC. Be warned though the numbers won't fit with your pathetic, miserable agenda.

Just a touch worried about the late games (7pm games) in the middle of winter...it's going to be near freezing which could really affect crouds and the players.  I was going through the previous under 20 tournaments and the last Southern Hemisphere tournament was way back in 2001 in Argentina...it was played about the same time of year but kick offs were all day time (2pm and 4:45pm).  Maybe something to ponder...last thing I want at Waikato stadium is a big fog floating in while the late game is on.

The alternative is to play the games at 1pm and 4pm instead of 4pm and 7pm, which immediately rules out people who work. 7pm is a decent compromise imo.

Don't know if this is the best place for this, but I've received my tickets (two tickets per matchday) for all matches in New Plymouth.

Unfortunately I'll be leaving for Rarotonga on Saturday and will be missing all matches bar the quarter final - which from memory is on the June 11th.

Am I able to give these away or sell them on at half of what was paid for them? If so, would anyone want them for said offer? (I only want a little bit of extra beer money for Raro I swear).

Thanks in advance.

Well said!!!!!!!

The lazy incompetent biased NZ sports press has already made up their minds....this tournament is a failure because the stadiums have not sold out.

Nothing ever changes......egg ball is the sport of rich white males who control most things in NZ. Anything that they percieve as a threat to their sacred game is stamped on.

You try asking Warriors fans....they get a raw deal all the time. Now the honky Auckland Council want to dump them out  at  Albany Stadium. The reason they get away with this stuff? because Warriors fans are mainly working class and brown.....they have no power

Not only does the press take delight in rubbishing Football they lap all the false stories put out by the Ruby Union like that there were 4 Billion TV viewers watching the Rugby World Cup in 2011 and that the event is the third biggest in the World.

Rugby is only the national sport in NZ, Wales and some Pacific Islands. So if you put it in World Terms, Rugby is " Dannevirke"  and Football is " New York"

I was planning to return to the Bencher between games on Saturday, but have just seen the NO PASS OUT Policy!

FIFA U-20 World Cup Conditions of Entry

Not sure what you can bring into the Stadium for this tournament? Read the Venue Regulations and Conditions of Entry document.

IMPORTANT NOTE - NO PASS OUTS: Once a ticket has been used to enter the Stadium, it cannot be used to enter again, including in between matches of a double header. If you leave the Stadium after the first match, you will require another ticket to re-enter for the second match.

I was at FIFA's Christchurch HQ at Rydges Latimer Hotel Thursday afternoon and an official told me that 12,000 tickets have been sold for the opening double header on Monday, Germany v Fiji and Honduras v Uzbekistan.

AMI Stadium holds about 17,000 but can be extended to 24,000 with temporary seating.

12,000 tickets for the opening game four days beforehand is pretty encouraging.

So they are hardly "struggling to fill venues" as Stuff had it a few days ago !

Mike Coggan CEO of Mainland Football some time ago predicted a full house of 24,000 (with extra seating) for the semifinal and an average of 15,000 to 18,000 for the round of 16 games and the quarterfinal.

While it would be nice to have the option to leave & come back, with only an hour between the games, it doesn't leave a lot of time to nip out for food - macca's maybe.

Just keep the lid in your pocket !!!

Bottle must be plastic and no more than one litre capacity.

Hopefully there will be taps to fill bottles with in the stadia.

Also only soft bags of dimensions 35 x 30 x 40 cm or less allowed

Can bring your own non-commercial food like sandwiches, fruit etc. along.

Happily this is not a policy at AMI Stadium in Christchurch.

No mention of anything like that in the stadium regulations:

http://vbase.co.nz/images/documents/AMI_Stadium_Co...

No mention of a "no pass out policy" in any FIFA regulations relating to the tournament either.

So I'm thinking you can come and go as you please from AMI Stadium in Christchurch.

There's heaps of food outlets in the area too.

Buy a voucher for the nearby "Cargo Bar and Restaurant" here and get $40 of food and drink for only $20 to use after 6 pm any day for any number of people:

Walking out of the stadium I saw the security office at front of the gate, it was full of drink bottles. There was a queue of people lined up waiting to get their drink bottle back. Ridiculous.

I laughed at the under 17's as they would take the bottle lids off the bottles before serving you yours. And the FIFA approved menue had about 15 items on their list and all of them were stamped "Not Available" at Westpac, except for chips. Good to see the stadium defiant of FIFA's instruction.

Do they really think New Zealanders can be fudgeed throwing a perfectly good Coke from the stands? Lid on or lid off, makes no difference.
