Television and Online Coverage

Television:

All games to be live on Sky TV - and NZ's games to be free-to-air on Prime.

NZ's opening game will be live on Prime, all other NZ team games delayed and daily highlights of all games. Good stuff !!!

 http://www.fifa.com/u20worldcup/news/y=2015/m=4/ne...

The 52-game event is being hosted in New Zealand for the first time, with matches spread across the country, and SKY Sport has LIVE coverage of every game of the star-studded tournament.

“Hosting the FIFA U-20 World Cup is a huge deal for New Zealand, and being able to screen every match will give customers a great opportunity to enjoy another world-class event on SKY Sport,” said Richard Last, SKY’s Director of Sport.

Fans can also enjoy the FIFA U-20 World Cup free-to-air on Prime, starting with live coverage of the opening match between New Zealand and Ukraine. Once the tournament kicks off, Prime has highlights of all the action on the field and delayed coverage of New Zealand matches and the final. Full broadcast details will be released closer to the event."

Online:

For Sky subscribers, all games will stream live on Sky Go

Some Prime TV content is available freely on demand to non-Sky subscribers on Sky Go, so check during the tournament to see if any coverage is available for free here:

http://www.skygo.co.nz/catchup/channels/prime

(hovering your mouse over a program indicates if it's free to all: "for SKY PrimeLive subscribers" means anyone can watch it.

You'll have to register here if you're not a Sky subscriber to access it: https://www.skytv.co.nz/skyid/signup.html?_ga=1.13...

The new FreeviewPlus service launching mid-year unfortunately won't initially provide Prime TV content On Demand.

Word of warning to anyone on the Vodafone cable network - I just set up a series link for the tournament but it didn't actually link all the games. When there were 2 games at the same time later today it was only recording one of them.

With two games on at the same time, I wanted to watch one game (Argentina v. Panama) and watch the USA v Mynamar match later.

I have Sky but not MySky.

However, Sky are not repeating ANY games whatsoever for the first four days of the tournament.

Despite many games being broadcast simultaneously.

Very poor....

They have all their extra pop-up channels - but no football on any of them.

Two of the pop-up channels are not being used at all today until 10.30 pm and 12.30 am

You can complain to Sky here:

So, 25,000 for the first match of a YOUTH TOURNAMENT against a good football nation, but certainly not a superpower. Media hacks and hackettes and your editors of NZ, how does that compare to a Youth tournament from any other sport? THIS is why football is the global game. Wake up.

This

2014 U20 Rugby World Cup Final in Auckland only got 5200 people. This tournament is going to be huge. Mind you they better sort out the transport and parking fiasco around Nth Harbour stadium or people won't turn up for the semis etc.

There has always been problems at Nth harbour Stadium...beats me why FIFA chose it......maybe Len Brown delivered FIFA something in a brown paper bag  LOL. Eden Park is a bit of a dog but at least they know how to handle a big croud

Was that the editorial about how kids are going to stop wanting to play football because of the negative press about FIFA corruption?

Sometimes I feel like I've got a bit of a persecution complex as a kiwi football fan, but when a match report on what was easily the most-attended NZ sporting event of the weekend isn't even in the sports headlines the morning after then you do have to question editorial bias.

Media should be reporting the FIFA scandal. It is front page news, not back page news. However Fairfax eyes so far are closed to the football. They are the dominant newspaper in Wellington, Hamilton and Christchurch. I hope FIFA LOC's sponsorship deal doesn't have the impact of low or zero reporting on this football tournament by Fairfax. That would be a legacy fail.

Only in NZ do you get the local commentator commentating on a game involving foreign teams (Dewhurst did USA v Mynamar) while a 72 year-old foreigner commentates the opening game involving the NZ team.

John Helm is well past his use-by date and should be put out to pasture in a retirement home for old commentators where they can commentate on the bowls and craft classes etc.

Some gems from John on Saturday: "Alex Rufer, son of Wynton Rufer who played in the Bundesliga"

"The NZ physio is Allan Pearce who`played for Lincoln City and Bradford Park Avenue before immigrating to New Zealand..."

Media coverage of the tournament has been disgracefully poor. The only media entity that has done a half decent job is the Herald. TV, stuff and radio - useless.

When you think about the countries represented the human interest / back stories that could have been covered would have been incredibly rich. On top of that there has been some amazing football played and goals scored.

If only one of the players had bonked a Kardashian the coverage would have been so much better.

NZ media - hang your heads in shame.

Agree but think LOC decision to enter a sponsorship with NZ Herald has had an impact. Would love to know the skinny from people in the know at Fairfax. Fairfax papers are the dominant media in Hamilton, Wellington and Chch.

Funnily enough, I haven't minded Dewhurst's commentaries during this tournament.

He seems to do better as a solo commentator.

I haven't enjoyed 72 year-old Englishman John Helm's rambling commentaries during the Junior All Whites' games though.

I feel it would be better to have a local for our side's games.

Bit embarrassing to have a foreign pensioner foisted on us.

There are other Kiwi options such as Jason Pine or the excellent bloke who used to do the Football Kingz commentaries years ago whose name escapes me...
