Can someone confirm whether or not they have introduced a difficulty level therefore ruining the game completely.

No difficulty level... now just checking the game out with Arsenal. When a NZ Sterling Sports Premiership database comes out I'll start a new game :) If it doesn't pop up somewhere I'll try to make it on my own with the editor :D

Besides that FM17 is in a kind of way just like FM16 just upgraded a little bit. But still definitly worth buying for me every year!

Looks shark just like 16. I love how they bring in pointless new features like in game twitter and brexit but fail to fix the fudgeing awful match engine.

Stupid cods.

Well match engine looks good to me though.. no problems at all for me. Yes it's like FM16+... not really any new features. But hey it doesn't stop me from playing it and enjoying the managing game.

Just took over the All Whites squad and managing Arsenal buying talented kiwi's and loaning them out to improve the national team. My mission is to win the World Cup with New Zealand :D

the database is awesome, but the game is pretty much a fm2016 uptdated, advice: you own a 2016 version, don't buy this one

yeah I like the match engine - while it doesn't look much or any better than 2016 they have fixed some of the things that used to annoy me.  I'm finding it a much better game to play than 2016.

Even with the massive amounts of injuries - they are at least realistic injuries.

Fair enough. Only seen bits of 17 on my mates laptop but it looks very similar to 16, which is probably the worst version of the game i have played.

Not on a wind up either, appreciate some of you will play it and view it differently but having played FM since 05 i feel like the game has gone rapidly downhill in terms of a realistic match engine in recent years.

If i was to rate them by years (or years when the match engines were similar)

05-06 - First one used, overall quite realistic but had some basic flaws that were easy to exploit (e.g. the corner cheat)

07-09 - Probably the best to date. Could actually see your players carrying out exact instructions. Shots, headers, crosses and passing were all very realistic.

10-12 - Reworked match engine slightly due to the introduction of 3D. Still quite playable though, general gameplay was fine, no real exploits that were too obvious.

13-15 - Started to go downhill here. Finishing and heading had been remodeled. Goalkeepers behaved differently, and there are known tactics that the AI can seemingly never counter.

With 16, some of the gameplay is beyond infuriating. Basic things like players never squaring/crossing the ball when driving in to the box, strikers rarely finishing one on ones, players never hitting curling long range shots anymore, too many hollywood passes being attempted, crossing (particularly from full backs) being far too overpowered. There just appears to be less control over your players as well. I can remember the earliest FM's you could actually set up a specific tactic/instruction and see it come to fruition exactly as you had planned. On 16 you basically hope they do as asked x amount of times and it might win you the game.

I actually like some of the detail they've continued to add to the game, it's probably what's kept drawing me in for 11 years and counting. But i really cannot understand why they've moved away from what was a superb match engine, well received by nearly all who played it, to a reworked and remodeled version that is sub-par in comparison.

My initial thoughts on this year's game: frustrating. But in a positive, let me figure out how to do this thing better kind of way.

My first save was a fall on face effort with Chelsea, barely made it into the new year before getting the tin tack. Had no desire to continue so that file was swiftly deleted.

A favourite of mine for long run saves is Schalke, always a lot of fun to manage. Enough of a resource gap to Bayern to keep you on your toes throughout the save, excellent youth and training facilities right off the bat, consistent 60k+ attendances, competent board and staff. I've had a fun run so far but it's been really difficult to get any traction. My first two and a bit seasons featured pretty high player turnover as I reshaped things, but I've largely stuck with the same squad since. Managed to finish 2nd in my first season with 72 points, 2 behind champions Leverkusen, but then went downhill with a 3rd/63 pts finish. The third season was the absolute worst, ended up finishing level on points with Bayern who edged me out with a +33 goal difference to my +32. Season 4 was nightmarish as we slumped to a 4th/57 pts finish. Things are extra tough because Germany's CL spots have been reduced from 4 to 3 since the end of the first season.

European progress has been hard to come by, my best effort being getting to a Europa League final and being bested 2-1 by Man City at Wembley. The Champions League groups having been happy hunting grounds.

Ultimately I came through to win the league in my fifth season with 72 pts, which was a bit of vindication for my efforts. Still, 5 seasons in on last years game I believe I had wrapped up at least 2 Bundesliga titles.

When I eventually put that save on hold I have two new ones in mind. First, Joe Hart's Torino, with the goal of trying to recreate Grande Torino's 5 scudetti in a row. Then, Preston North End, with the goal of recreating the original invincibles.

Took control of the All Whites squad alongside with my Arsenal game... Easily qualified for World Cup Play-offs against Colombia... after a fast 0-1 from Wood Colombia really pressed and made a last minute winner 2-1... home game Stadium was packed and Barbarouses scored 1-0 after 8 minutes! From then on we really played catenaccio football and kept the clean sheet, which means we are going to Russia WC 2018!

Let's hope for a good group ;) I'll keep you updated

Sooo, I'm a FM fanatic (been obsessively playing since 1993), but have found myself committing less and less time to it each year... all the usual "life" excuses, which combined with the added complexity each iteration, left me struggling to "get into" it in recent years, and battling to ever get through the first season. Started a Beta FM17 save as the Nix but again, just never quite got into it and parked it.

Out of curiosity, I started a new game recently... but in the 'FM Touch 2017' mode (a completely different application). And FM Touch has re-affirmed my love of the game. It cuts out a lot of the noise that I would get caught up in, but is still surprisingly complex and detailed. The 'Touch' name is a bit of a mis-nomer. I have actually gone back to watching highlights in 2D mode and am enjoying that from a tactical point of view.

I started a FMT game as Bournemouth and am loving it. Finished 5th in the Premier League first season, and am tied 1st at Christmas in 2nd season. Perhaps some elements of FMT make it slightly easier, although I don't really think that's the case. Main thing is hardly having to worry about team talks, media etc.

For anyone else struggling to get into the latest incarnation of Football Manager, I highly recommend the Touch mode to rekindle your love!

I've just started a new career as coach of Melville United. Took a lot of work to get the regional divisions added in under the Stirling Sports Prem but worth it. Got the Chatham Cup to play for too so looking forward to seeing how I get on. :)

Doing a pretty good save with Auckland City. First season signed Kevin Nolan and Rosinei, a Brazilian journeyman CM, to shore up the midfield, brought back Tom Doyle whose contract was terminated with the Nix mid season, brought in a couple of young Aussies from FFA COE including a U20 international. Also brought in a New Caledonian from a club i faced in the OCL, brilliant 16yo regen who’s good enough to start already. Top of the table right now with 13 wins and 3 draws from 16 games, 14 points ahead of Hawke’s Bay in 2nd. Hamilton and Canterbury make up the top 4, Waitakere and TW absolutely flopping. Weenix dead last, no surprise. Ryan de Vries having an off season, sometimes not making the bench. Riera, Howieson, Doyle and Hudson-Wihongi are NZ regulars under Ramon.

I got it on this sale while on sale for $20 or something. Loving it.

First time I've really got into a football manager game since Championship Manager in the late 90s. Enjoying! Geez it can take a while to get through a season though. Someone should make a patch or something that allows Phoenix to go into the Asian Champions League, that'd be fab.
