Was planning to be supporting France in the tournament given they have Rabiot, then they go and not even select him! Happy if they lose now.

I've always liked him; but he threw his toys out of the cot after not being selected. Opinion of him has lowered somewhat.

I think Australia are going to pull off a surprise against either the Danes or Peru. Don't think they progress though.

Peru I think - Danes look strong defensively

If Aussie get one point from the three group matches they should count themselves lucky.

On Paper perhaps, but Peru were very nervous against us in that first leg away from South America and I'd give them a chance at fudging it up.

I wanna watch this group just to watch Australia be a complete train smash. I'm not entirely sold that the two that come out of this group are obvious either. France can do unusual things. I don't expect much from Peru but if they show up focused, they could sneak in as a 2nd place?

France is meant to have a really good team and Peru is currently on a 15 game unbeaten streak with 10 wins and 5 draws. 25 goals for and 8 goals against.

France are quality, one of the favourites to win it all IMO. Denmark are a very decent side, they stormed back into contention in the second half of European qualifying (including 4-0 win over Poland, and 5-1 away win against Ireland in the play-off). Peru have obviously had a very good run of late too. You wuld expect that a lot hinges on the Denmark v Peru game over the weekend.

As has been mentioned, Peru were quite nervous against us as it was such a potential 'banana skin' for them, now that they've qualified I hope they can be a bit more fearless.

I didn't notice that Australia now have the record for most games played to qualify for a World Cup, with 22, and also largest distance traveled in qualifying campaign, 155,000 miles.

When you haven’t been to a WC in 36 yrs, and have the weight of a nation on your shoulders - yes you’d be nervous.

They have a pretty experienced squad, who survived some tight spots during South American qualifying. If they beat Denmark first up, great chance of progressing.

Aussie will be happy with that first half. Pretty well organised, then when France did show some good creativity their desperation defending was great. Probably created the better chances of the half too.

France disjointed & unconvincing. So close by Australia to picking up a draw.

Flip side is that Pogba was non existent until that jammy goal...

France looked much better with Giroud at CF. Deschamps has a few selection issues IMO

Teams that play 6 defenders and go for the draw should be knocked out. I'm not defending the All Whites here either, they would have been absolutely dire to watch for anyone but NZers. The outcome was correct for the sake of further entertainment.

In saying that though, the Aussies were pretty unlucky. Horrid goals.

Australia, particularly in the first half, were excellently organised. A coaching masterclass for the first 45 minutes.

van Marwijk will get you that. Hope Schmid's something similar.

To be fair, that was all parking the bus from Australia, world class defense especially Sainsbury but nonexistent attack and defense, and at least 8 men behind the ball at all times. Somehow they managed to make parking the bus look bearable though. Peru will be a huge test considering they're a more organised, coherent team.

Both penalties were penalties in my opinion

VAR needs to be abandoned. I hope the A League give up on it.

What? Absolutely not. VAR saved this game, it's a fantastic addition if it's done right like it was today, didn't disrupt the flow of the game at all. It needs to be part of the game. Why don't people like refs making right decisions?

We need to focus on making it more efficient, i.e. teaching the A-League refs how to actually use it instead of leaving it switched off during the Grand Final.

Total bollox. Was not a penalty for France and neither was the one for Argentinian "dive" that Messi missed, yet they should have had one that the VAR got wrong as well.

I view their cricket side entirely differently to their football side TBH. Happy to support them in football.

How was Denmark v Peru?

100%.  I'll support Aussie when we aren't playing in every single sport.  Except cricket.  A shame to see them go down, and a shame to see the VAR involved.
