I know he's old now, but just one game it would be cool to see him as an All White. The guy would have thought he would never play an international game, I like it when shark like this happens (even though I know this probably won't)

All White caps are not toys to hand out to kids you 'cos you like them.

Riera probably should still be playing in the A-League, he is good enough to play for the AWs if he chooses too.

Seems to me that’s he’s never stated any desire to play for AWs.

I remember there was talk in Australia at one point, about whether Thomas Broich could qualify for Socceroos. However Broich rubbished the idea, saying he still felt German and playing for Australia just wouldn’t feel right for him.

Could see Riera saying something similar. They are both different sort of cats. Broich from memory is a big fan of classical music, not your typical pro footballer.

He said he wanted to play for the AWs a couple years ago

Also, he became a NZ citizen so is obviously connected to the country.

For whatever reason he stopped playing professional football, why should anyone would choose him to play for the All Whites? He might fancy the idea, but I would not pick him because the lack of ambition.

Also Riera of his first Phoenix season vs Riera now are two very different players.

Capping a 34 year old who's recently had knee surgery would be, interesting.

I think he said when asked a couple of years ago that it would be nice but it wasn't a main driver for him

If he was going to be an All White he really needed to be picked when he was in his prime at the Phoenix, unfortunately he wasn't eligible

His recent citizenship probably has more to do with helping Auckland City out with the Oceania 3+1 rule on foreign players (well besides the fact he has lived in NZ for quite a while now)

Broich may not have been able to represent Australia even if he wanted to - not sure if his u21 caps for Germany were in official matches.

Also hasn’t Krishna’s citizenship application been fast tracked?

If Riera was motivated to play for the AWs, he would have tried the same.

The fact he has also given up pro football last few years, shows it was never a big driver.

Broich was definitely sounded out to qualify for Socceroos, so I presume his Germany age group games didn’t affect that - he just wasn’t interested. Good for him.

Awesome player and a top bloke - real shame he didn't get his passport say 4 years ago and that he chose to quit pro football so soon.

But life's too short - he's had the guts to walk away from it all and he's obviously happier for it.
