Looks like Huddo is trying to strengthen his midfield, and improve the Rapid's woeful possession stats.

https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019/01/10/stejskal...

He will have few excuses MLS season 2019, having had a complete off season and plenty of time to recruit who he needs.

MLS preseason has started.

Colorado lose 1-0 at home to new team Cincinnati FC.

Rapids host Tuiloma's Portland on 3rd March for start of MLS season.

Minnesota had a 0-0 draw at Musa's Phoenix Rising.

Hudson on fire again so far this season, 6 games without a win, 2 draws & 4 losses, and have conceded 16 goals.

They are probably a better team on paper (or powerpoint) this season, but results going similar. Wish he'd come coach one of the Australian A-League teams.

Melbourne Victory or Sydney City would be good.

Hudson essentially throwing the team under the bus...

Not sure how that's going to go down in the dressing room. Probably akin to saying pre game 'Shark lads, we're gunna be up against it. Just go out and have a bit of fun and give it your best'

He's right about the gap in quality, but seriously what did he expect? The MLS is growing in leaps and bounds, and Colorado just seems to have lagged at the back for a while now. He hasn't quite done a squad overhaul but he's brought in several players and to be fair, a lot of them aren't really up to it.

Actually to be fair, Hudson is not up to it, but I'm intrigued to see how long this trainwreck of an appointment will continue to keep his job.

And he's finally fired!

Was lucky to last over a year. Last straw must have been throwing the players under the bus and blaming the clubs recruitment strategy. Clearly wasn't going to accept that he may be at fault for anything so had to get his excuses out.

Surely we're too lowly for him. He'll be looking at the Premier League vacancies.

It looks like Hudson finally got fired for the same thing that got Andreas Heraf fired - trashing his own players.

I'd imagine if he gets another job it would probably be in the lower English leagues, more than likely with a team already struggling.

So long as it is not Stockport County as they have just won promotion.

He'll go back to age groups somewhere, it's the only level he's had any success.

How would that constitute struggling if they have just won promotion?

Promoted out of what used to be Conference North, lol

(Huh, I didn't realise that huge fraud DK failed at Stockport County as well)

has anyone considered that Hudson may try and take both roles - i hope Colorado are not silly enough to consider it but NZF sure are.

After the qualifiers, it's highly likely we won't play more than 2 games for 18 months, so there is probably not a lot for him to do.  Certainly time for him to take the job, get found out, get fired, and then be back in time for our next campaign.

Just browsing through this thread again (some great lol's and terrible takes!)  after Chris Kerr linked it on twitter to the dude spreading the Hudson to Newcastle rumours.  I realise this really is blowing my own trumpet - but wow this post was prescient!  Slightly under on the number of games, but pretty much spot on, especially with Schmid leaving too!

Absolutely textbook.  Never going to get this job but just gives him more credibility for when he applies for jobs at his level (probably league 1/2)

More than half the teams change their manager each year so there will probably always be someone desperate

Looks like he has popped up doing some kinda work for a Nigerian Football Academy. I have soooo many questions.

Doesn't mention much after 2017, you'd think they'd be up with the play and ask for recent work history?

Also 2017 Confederation Cup is not an achievement.

"It is a sacrifice playing for New Zealand but he still showed up and to be fair if he hadn’t have turned up we wouldn’t have been the team we were during the campaign."

Anthony Hudson talking on Chris Wood for the Athletic UK. Again making it sound like we were some sort of super-team under his tutelage.

Amongst all the BS Hudson has spouted, I can't really fault this. It is indeed a sacrafice for the likes of Chris Wood to play for the All Whites, and we are undoubtedly a different team without him.

Smeltz had interesting comments on Hudson in a podcast recently, kind of saying he and Ricki were opposites where Ricki did no preparation and let the team run themselves and Hudson came in with a clear plan and everyone knew what they were doing. Sounded like he really rates Hudson. Of course he and his wife work for Clive palmer so maybe his judgement is flawed.

I don't dispute that he probably takes it seriously, prepares well etc.

My view is that he just fundamentally is not a good manager - ie he is not capable of preparing a football team to play good football and to win.

I also think that as the son of an ex-England international he has had a leg up from a bunch of people who would have known his father, so rather than having earned his career, he basically seems to have failed upwards.

Pretty much every AW/ex AW who has been asked, praised Hudson - esp for having camps/training highly organised. How much credit can be given to Huddo, and how much just to NZF for opening up the wallet ie giving him a lot more money/resources than Ricki is open to conjecture.

The other debate ad nauseum is could Hudson have done much more to have the AWs playing prettier football, when his first eleven midfield included with Thomas, a faded Weemac and a very green Clayton Lewis. What can't be debated is that Hay will have access to more classy midfield players in this cycle, and hopefully the style of football improves. The NZ football supporter demands it must.

I understand, I don't rage Hudson either it's just interesting that a retired player with no real agenda and wasn't even really that involved with the aws at the time would sing his praise.

With his organisational skills maybe Hudson missed his calling as a wedding planner.

Here is the thing that I think Hudson banks on

No one outside of NZ will fact check him

I think this fits right with his operations manual is that he says the right things, makes the right noises and providing no one really fact checks him, on face value, you would go 'This guy has something'

I think JDs statement of "My view is that he just fundamentally is not a good manager - ie he is not capable of preparing a football team to play good football and to win" is extremely accurate. You could give him France and I suspect they would go backwards. He might prepare well but if you're just not any good or have any clue, then all that background work wont make a difference. I think his name has definitely opened more doors than it should have
