Isn't it just some Aussies playing the game in Australia under our banner?

Yep, which is a shame cuz iirc the best FIFA player from Aussie/NZ is a guy from Auckland. Guess you can't really afford to fly someone over to Aussie for an evening once a week for 10 or so weeks.

I mean, you can play video games over an internet connection. They could probably get away with not flying him over.

there is a real world and a gaming world, lets not get confused about the two. Next thing someone will be marrying a virtual roy khrishna on MAFS on Secondlife. Its completely tragic

22 people kicking a ball around a field isn’t exactly the real world either. They’re both games.

Not my thing to watch video games at all, but let’s not pretend it’s much different to grown men/women watching other grown men/women kick a ball around a field.

People like to watch people play games. Whether it’s football or a video game.

Nah, lag would surely be a major issue.

You mean about 20 tragics want to watch a video game. FFS . Videogaming might be a fun thing to do at home when you don't have a girlfriend, but lets get real here, its total bollocks

The E-League's opening night attracting 138,000 viewers on streaming network, Twitch, as well as Fox Sports' website, with figures from that broadcaster yet to be confirmed. The shock success of the E-League meant it had a broadcast reach well above the average A-League audience on Fox Sports network this season, which has dropped to 119,000, according to the FFA.

Wonder if Sheridan has put out a challenge out to the Nix reps yet?

think you need to get your head out of the newspaper and remember you're on an online forum (ie not real world) discussing a game. The world of E sports is massive and it's only going to get bigger.

Excellent, its like synchronised swimming and breakdancing in the Olympics, great for those that enjoy it and want to follow it, but gaming has absolutely no connection with the real world or football or the Phoenix. If the Phoenix buy into this shark in the desperate fight for online hits, then that's up to them, but they can wave goodbye to football supporters like me

taking this way too seriously mate. It’s a nice accompaniment to the A-League for people who are interested, not in the realm of ever replacing it or anything.  25 million people bought FIFA 18 not including China so a fair few of them are in Aus/NZ - it’s not a virgin magnet like you seem to believe, just check Cillian Sheridan’s social medias, he’s obsessed. Hell even Mitch Austin was a contestant in the E-League last season. It's not a massive draw for me, i catch the occasional Nix E-League game now and then when it's on - but stopping supporting the Phoenix because of a little FIFA competition is a little strange if you ask me

While I don't really care for online gaming, I've noticed this is getting huge in Europe... With teams now competing to sign the best E -players. One of the things I always wondered though is how you account for the difference in team strength.. I mean a good player using Sydney or MVC will certainly have it easier than an equal player using the Nix, right?

I think they only have to have 3 players from the team they represent, rest from their own collection of players. So if you ever wanted to see Ronaldo in a Nix shirt, its probably your only chance.

They play with mostly all-star players in their teams, only maybe 2-3 Phoenix players play, so the ratings of the Phoenix players don't make a great deal of difference. Nearly all the 'Phoenix' goals in this will be scored by Ronaldo & Mbappe.

Sounds even lamer than I thought! :) but at least it makes for a level playing field which you need otherwise you'll get slammed each game.

Yeh earlier they had Krishna, but now both teams have Ronaldo.

In the first round, no players outside your team were allowed, and we managed to beat Sydney so it's not all bad! Agree that this using-own-players thing is lame as shark

The viewing numbers are interesting. Looking at the stats on Twitch it does show huge amount of views, over 100,000 viewers but the peak at any one time is only 4,500 (the whole round is done in one stream which goes just over 4 hours). The average amount of time viewers watch for is only 4 or 5 minutes.

Why can't they fill each team with players with exactly the same abilities and just rename the players? Or is that not possible?
