how about that man Carl eh? Few more performances like that and he’ll either get us a decent transfer fee, or provide an upgrade on Lichtsteiner as a rotation option/back up to Hector!

Spurs away this weekend. I think we’ll see Emery stick with 3 at the back.

I’d like to see:

                    Leno

    Mustafi Sokratis Koscielny

AMN Torreira Xhaka Kolasinac

      Mhiki Aubameyang Iwobi

Rotation continues to be key, and while I enjoyed Ozil today you’ve got to imagine he won’t be asked to back it up again.

Still leaves Ramsey, Lacazette, Suarez, Guendouzi as options off the bench.

Really should have won that. Absolutely shafted by the ref. Auba should have rendered all that irrelevant tbf, even then we were shafted again. How far inside was Vertonghen before the pen was taken?

Good performance though. If we beat the Manc scummers next week i think we're all set for 4th.

How does Rose not get a red when Torreira does as well?

Refs were shocking. We shoulda had all 3 from that.

Got lost in all the uproar but how good was Leno's double save btw???

I woulda taken a point before the game, Auba/Laca were guilty of a lot of missed chances, but that was still really tough to swallow.

Oh yea and Mkhi is looking proper good right now. Meanwhile Sanchez may have done his knee this morn.

What a deal we got there in the end.

Xhaka should’ve been sent off 10 minutes in.

Ref was poor but he was poor all round.

Got a clip? I know Xhaka has his moments but I don't recall anything worthy of a red.

Rose was just a c*nt all day, deserves yellows for how willingly he hits the ground. Torreira's was justified, but as you say Paul, Rose went two feet straight into Leno's chest. They also missed the lash out on Kosc from Sanchez too.

Oh well, when you get a penalty at the death like that and you don't take it it's all on you!

We had chances but weren't good enough to get the job done. Watching that felt like a late-Wenger performance where we were one up but too passive and allowing the opposition to dictate terms and eventually conceding.

That's a fascinating bit of the law I was not aware of.

Mustafi's lean in there was absolute mad, especially with Koscielny on the cover.

On Xhaka's tackle the ref was letting a lot of that go, he was consistent to both teams but wasn't firm enough on any of these views. Until the 94th minute that is.

The encroachment on our missed peno was missed too, certain goal if that player was not there to clear it, he was nearly level with aubameyang when he hit the penalty. Massive miss by the refs there that cost us the game as well. Yes brumbys the sanchez stamp also a red card offence. Very unlucky to only take a point from this, whichever way its spun. Oh well, draw not the worst result i guess, I would have taken that before the match.

Also brumbys, after watching that, I'm keen for Jenko over Mustafi at right back, that's for sure. Not even talking about the peno either. The man is a shambles. He actually did a lot of stuff right in terms of positioning etc, but he always spoils it with dumb fouls or bad touches. He can't seem to iron it out of his game.

Interesting that Emery isn't a fan of Maitland-Niles at RB, he was fully fit right?

It took me a while valeo, but I am there too.

The reason it took me a while is that he seems to have all the ingredients - he's fast, he's strong, he's got good feet, he's good in the air.

I think there are parallels with Lovren. He looks like he's got it all in his locker, but you get brain explosions all too frequently.

You see some of his crap with young defenders, but he's about to turn 27, and it doesn't seem to be getting better.

I did find the RB selection odd. With AMN back and on the bench I'd have thought he'd be a shoe in. That said he isn't strong defensively, and reverting to a back 4 with a game plan of shutting them out you want a solid defender there. As much as Mustafi's a mug I think he got the decision right, as we were very much under control bar his absolute brain fart. I guess what I'm saying is if Jenko or AMN play in that position in that game I think Sp*rs might have had more luck through that channel.

I'm genuinely hoping Jenkinson get's a run of matches under his belt now. I know he's been written off but whenever he's played he's looked fit enough, defended well, and offered more on attack than AMN, Mustafi, or Lichsteiner.

My pick for tomorrow:

                 Cech

Sokratis Koscielny Monreal

AMN Torreira Xhaka Kolasinac

           Ozil    Iwobi

         Aubamayang

Subs: Leno, Mustafi, Guendouzi, Ramsey, Mhiki, Suarez, Nketiah

Dang those yellows on Sokratis were soft. Well, the first one was soft, but the second looked like nothing at all - shouldn't the foul have been given our way first? Do they not assess that stuff on VAR? I'm not sure of the rules, but I was expecting them to pull it back for a review, right up until the moment they took the free kick (and scored!).

Missed the 2nd Rennes goal. But looks like we'll have a mountain to climb in the 2nd leg, with no Sokratis and no Lacazette.

VAR won't be introduced in this season's Europa League until the final.

Dammit! For some reason I thought it was being used.

Why are they using it for Champions League but not Europa? Seems odd.

Not entirely sure. The UEFA statement on the matter doesn't provide much insight. I imagine it's perhaps a resource issue with the sheer amount of Europa League games. They're not planning on introducing VAR to the competition (aside from the final) at all until the 2020/21 season.

You'd hope we can appeal Sokratis suspension given the second yellow offence clearly shows he's been pulled by the Rennes player. First one was soft but at least understandable, the 2nd looked like pure fraud.

We absolutely bottled that tactically, credit to Rennes for their goals and the way they took advantage. I can't believe we didn't bring on AMN into RB. It speaks volumes about how Emery views AMN if he'd rather keep Ozil on and drop Mhiki in to cover. I would have thought you'd swap Ozil for AMN and go to a compact 4-4-1 and rely on the work rate of Iwobi and Mhiki to get up and down the wings to support attack and defence.

Monreal probably had his worst night in an arsenal shirt, completely off the pace, constantly beaten by the man he was marking, and at fault for goals 2 and 3.

It's the worst way to go into this weekend to. We've drawn a winnable NLD, and we've lost a winnable Europa League away game, both of which we went 1-0 up in. United on the other hand have won their last 2 EPL outings, and overcome a 2-0 deficit to PSG to make it through. Can't say I'm feeling confident we're going to give them a proper go.

ManU have an extra day to recover as well.

Only thing we can hope for is that they are a bit flat after the high of PSG, and we are well up for it given the defeat this morning.

Clutching at straws though.

This team eh..

AFAIK you can't appeal yellows? So Sokratis is goone, and would only be for very obvious errors.

Lots of really bad tactical decisions by Emery that completely screwed us.

For all the talk of squad rotation, from the NLD he only made 4 changes. Keeper, 2 in midfield, 1 up top which was forced due to suspension.

You'd have thought Jenkinson or AMN was worth a run at RB, the same of Kolasinac at LB. The rest of the lineup made sense, possibly a chance for Suarez to come in.

This season keeps getting worse by the day. Out of everything in March with only a limp home into 5th and watching United and Spurs continue to have famous European nights to look forward to. Fudge this.

Easy lad, we've got 4 games to define the season, we've drawn 1 and lost 1. Still an opportunity for us to complete 2 wins which would see us into the 1/4's and 2 points clear of United with an easier run in.

Get in. Made even better by Sp*rs losing and Chelski being held at home.

1 point off 3rd, back into 4th.

While we've got the easier run into the end with no more games against the big six we still have Wolves, Everton, Watford, Leicster, and Burnley away to navigate. That'll be Emery's next big challenge after overturning the result away to Rennes.

Interesting thought.

Last years top 6 table was:

Club 17/18 18/19
City 100 74
United  81 58
Sp*rs 77 61
Liverpool  75 73
Chelsea  70 57
Arsenal  63 60

With 8 games left we have plenty of time to surpass last seasons total. Will be interesting to see how close/far Sp*rs, United, and Chelsea go to equalling last seasons efforts.

This season is such a rollercoaster. One week we're out of it, now we're back within 1 point of Spurs and fighting for 3rd..

We've got the best run in out of every top 4 contender which *should* really help.

Kolasinac and Koscielny were absolute beasts this morning - both had terrific games. Xhaka and Ramsey too actually. I thought Laca/Auba struggled a little again, but tracked back and defended well. Ozil was solid, not spectacular, but did his tracking back duties.

Maybe one of the best games I've seen Kola play though. Bloke absolutely ran his guts off and was vomiting on the sidelines then getting back up and doing another 40m dash.

I feel like everyone has undersold how amazing it is that Koscienly is even back playing - he apparently played the last 20-30 mins of that game with a huge gash on his leg too.

We've played better and lost, so it's nice to have a bit of luck go our way with the penalty - also; a clean bloody sheet! Leno worked hard for that one (so did the post)

As an aside, I thought Suarez did very well off the bench and looked a bit Rosicky-esque. For the first time, I've seen what he brings.

United will not win all 8 games, therefore they will not match their total. Chelsea should match theirs comfortably, they've also got a game in hand over all of us. On current form Spurs will absolutely struggle to get 16 points from here.

Top 4 is definitely in our hands, i'd even say top 3 is a strong possibility given our run in.

Fantastic to finally beat them in a game with League positions still at stake.

Loving Kolasinac this season, and felt that was a heroic performance from Koscielny too. As for Leno I wasn't convinced initially but he's certainly made some big saves in the last few weeks. That double save against Spurs was astonishing. Up there with Seaman Vs Sheffield United and Lehman Vs Man United (Solskjaer) and Real Madrid (Raul) in terms of Arsenal saves I can remember.
