Wanted to make a companion thread to the ex-Nix one over on the Nix side of the forums. Would be nice to check up on some of the non-Kiwi players who have gone on to bigger and better things since they've left the NZ Premiership.

Emiliano Tade - Player of the Month in the South African Premier League for November and December, 3 goals in his last 5 games, and being linked to some of South Africa's biggest clubs. Well done big man

Eugenio Pizzuto - Former Weenix player, currently signed to Pachuca in Liga MX playing for their U17 side. A regular in the Mexico U17 national team, missed the latest squad due to injury but scored in an October friendly tournament against Argentina and USA.

Joao Moreira - Former ACFC striker had a spell in Malta before joining Brockie and Tade in the South African Premier League

I get the feeling Sundowns buys players so other teams can't have them.

Sundowns is actually the most 'random' football shirt I have, got this version from about 2001. Enjoying their recent New Zealand connections.

I know he’s been here since at least 12, but left at around 15/16 - i wouldn’t think so but you never know. One to definitely keep the eye on if he fails to make the grade for Mexico

Tade scores again (pen) for AmaZulu as they draw 1-1 with Highlands Park in a cup game.

Highlands Park win 3-1 on penalties, which Tade was not involved in as he was subbed off earlier.

Tade 5 PSL goals & another 2 goals in cup games

Any other ex Premmy players floating around? Surely if we put our heads together we can think of a few?
Any news of where Roy Kayara has ended up? Shame TW couldn't hold on to him.

Stephen Hoyle scores the first ever goal in Valour FC's history, as he leads them to a 2-1 win over Pacific FC in the inaugural season of the professional Canadian Premier League.

Not Handy Prem, but just noticed that Onehunga Sports + Miyazawa product Kohei Tezuka has made 59 appearances for Kashiwa Reysol since 2015 across the J1 and J2 leagues

I reckon that's a either a step down or at best a sideways step - still will be able to say he's played in the Oceania & UEFA champions leagues now!

If Andorra is a sideways step from Handy Prem, we may as well give up now.

Eric Molloy recently signed for a 2nd tier side in Poland, Stomil Olsztyn. Guess his goal vs Chelsea didn't win him a deal in Ireland then.

2nd tier in Poland is probably better than the Irish premier league?

Just a quick update on some of the more quirky ex-Prem stories:

24 y/o midfielder Nikita Meglinski, who grew up in NZ and played one game for Southern, has been at Finnish top tier side Inter Turku. One to keep an eye on

23 y/o Kohei Tezuka played NRFL in 2015 for Onehunga - since then, he's been a J1 and J2 league regular over in Japan with Kashiwa Reysol.

23 y/o Sansern Limwattana played here between 2011 and 2014 for Onehunga and Waitakere Utd, and is now a regular for the Thailand U23 team

According to Transfermarkt he has Russian and British nationality and has been playing for Turku's second team.

Was waiting for this lol

Transfermarkt only lists two nationalities so he could still have a NZ passport, I've seen him listed with a New Zealand nationality on other databases.

As NZpower says, unlikely to be good enough as he was with the second team most of the time from what I know, and he was recently released

Also hearing through the grapevine that top Liga MX side Guadalajara are looking to pick up Fabrizio Tavano. Scored 5 in 12 in the Mexican third tier and has apparently stood out which is always nice to see, despite the infamous Manukau incident I always liked him as a player. Very technically aware

What next for Emi I wonder? He's now a fully fledged professional and at 31 he could still be in the market for one good contract before retiring

Good for him but disappointing if that's the case... I mean, going from the PSL to the Handy is a bit of a step down.
Even the likes of Singapore/Hong Kong/Thailand etc would probably present a tougher challenge and more lucrative deals you'd think

Probably worth a read of this, assuming it's not the coach spreading BS.

Wow, I had no idea. Great find AndrewV!

Obviously he's decided he doesn't want to be a professional - totally understand if that's the case. Sucks for his team as they bought him quite recently so that's money down the drain for them, but if he's had enough, he's had enough.

I guess I'm disappointed as I loosely know Emi on a personal level and always thought he had it in him to be a good pro (which he has proven to a degree) - but those personal considerations must always take precedence.

We're so caught up in this game that we seldom stop to think about what life is actually like for professionals: lots of travelling, no job security, always an injury or a coach change away from losing your spot in the team. And for those who aren't necessarily established stars, there's always the threat of having to drop out of being a professional athlete with no guarantees of making the jump back up in the future.

Best of luck to him - he's doing the right thing by listening to his body, mind and heart.

Kip Colvey.

Also he may just be tired of living in South Africa. I've been there a few times, and with the high crime rate (plus also the often wanton violence of the crime), you never fully relax until you are safely behind the barbed wire (home/work/whatever).

Tade probably is at least partly hankering for the ability to just roam freely in NZ, exacerbated by injuries, not being a regular starter, missing friends/family etc etc

Looks like Browne might get a contract at HJK Helsinki. Big for the league and huge for PNG if true

He's made 3 appearances for HJK (2nd), all off the bench, including last week in a 3-0 win over KuPS (3rd).

Also seems to have a game for Chris James's 3rd tier Finnish club Klubi-04, amongst that.

According to Soccerway anyway. Not sure how that works. Was a short term loan deal maybe, then quickly called back

HJK play Nikko Boxall's SJK in a few weeks.

Klubi-04 is HJK's reserve side, so players can just drop down. Chris James plays for them and coaches the under-14s at HJK :)
