Smith was listed as 'questionable' due to a knee problem before the match. Good chance for Wynne who I don't think would be starting if Smith was fit.

Rapids had a poor disciplinary record in 2018. Seems lessons not learnt for 2019.

Wynne CB partner Solberg gets a straight red at 27 mins. Colorado 1-0 up at that stage.

Valeri scores for Portland soon after. Hudson subs off a striker (Rubio) and brings on a new CB (Danny Wilson) to partner Wynne.

Portland's other Argie Blanco scores, and they are up 2-1 at HT.

Gloves all round. Game must have been close to being called off surely.

Makes a bit of wind & rain at the ROF seem balmy.

Already down 1-0 too. Long way to go of course but Colorado will need some results in the early part of this season if Hudson is going to keep his job. Looks like the defensive frailties have rolled over from last season too.

Wynne keeps his starting CB role against Sporting KC, as Tommy Smith comes onto the bench.

Rapids lose this game and pressure will be on Huddo.

Full 90 mins for Wynne in a 1-1 draw.

Sporting KC scored at 88 mins. From memory conceding late was a problem for Rapids last season.

Nervous times alreafor Huddo.

Smith stays on the bench.

With Smith suspended, Wynne starting at centre-back vs Orlando City. Colorado Rapids down 2-1 at half-time.

Completely at fault for Orlando's second goal. Miskicked the ball in the middle of the box then charged out of position leaving an easy goal for Orlando.

Earlier on he hit the crossbar... of his own goal. Though it was actually a goal saver as if he didn't intercept the cross ball Orlando would've had a tap in. One of those ones that you often see an oggie from, but he got under it just enough.

Finished 4-3 Orlando City.

Rapids actually managed to go 3-2 up, but Orlando scored at 81 & 89 mins (pen) to pinch it.

90 mins for Wynne.

Exciting game. Nani with first & last (pen) goals for OC.

Wynne no 27.

Serna (no 17) got hauled by Hudson at HT, and then his replacement Solberg (no 44) seems to be partly at fault at least, for both Orlando's last 2 goals.

Huddo gone. Same result.

Rapids lose 2-3 to Vancouver. Another player sent off (77min mark).

Wynne 90 mins. Smith on the bench.

Some Aussie called Andy Rose with winner at 87 mins for Whitecaps.

Rubio - what an idiot!

Did get wound up on the ground there, but he's won the foul, then lashes out and gets sent off. Dumb play.

Some bang average defending from Colorado too. A lot of ball watching and poor positional play.

Wynne starting against Real Salt Lake (RSL) Tommy Smith with an I stays on the bench.

Still the same old story for Colorado though, currently 2-1 RSL at H/T.

Finishes 3-2 RSL. Wynne with a full 90. Smith stays on the bench. Actually not a bad game to watch.

Defending from both teams was pretty woeful in an end to end game. Colorado probably deserved a bit more, Kamara missed a penalty and new defender Abubakar (From Columbus Crew I think) had a goal ruled out in the 93rd minute for offside.

Colorado have definitely improved since Hudson was shown the door, they're watchable now, rather than being farken dire like they were. If they work on their defending they might just get a win at some point this season.

Smith full 90 mins as well. Has a shot saved. Plenty of action.

Rapids helped by Zlatan being suspended.

From this week's Flying Kiwis. Won't be replacing Cacace at Nix in 2020 (as has been touted on here as a possibility) - staying with Colorado. No doubt helps that he's on significantly less wages than Smith.

TOMMY SMITH & DEKLAN WYNNE – COLORADO RAPIDS (AMERICAN MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER)

And Collier won’t be alone in all this waiver process thing either. Michael Boxall has signed a multi-year deal and Bill Tuiloma had his contract picked up for next year but over on the Colorado Rapids there was action. You’d have figured that might be Deklan Wynne but no, actually it was Tommy Smith who got dumped on the waiver wire. Wynne had his contract option picked up while Smith is easily the most high profile of the players the Rapids have left exposed to potentially leaving the club.

Wynne stays on the pine for a 2-1 win.

Winner for Rapids late at 92 mins, having come back from a goal down..

Things have changed since Huddo's time, with Colorado dominating possession.

Winner in 90th minute. The eagle eyed will catch a glimpse of ole Darren Bazeley & Neil Emblen sideline at game end.

This week's Flying Kiwis.

"AMERICAN MLS AND NWSL

Mate, imagine living in America right now. Shambles. As you’ll not be at all surprised to hear, there’s no consistent idea about what’s going on with either of their top footy leagues either. The NWSL are being super ambitious about it all, they have a new commissioner this season and want to be the first major sports league to get back into things with a tournament style structure the current suggestion – like a World Cup with a group stage then knockouts, which would take place over June-July at a single venue. Except that there are still concerns about the idea and several USA national team players have reportedly said they aren’t interested in taking that risk, not with the Olympics next year.

Also the games are set to be played in Utah at altitude on artificial pitches with the potential for short turnarounds between games so the injury risk is pretty substantial, to be honest. Safe to say there’s still some conversations to be had with this... Abby Erceg (North Carolina Courage), Katie Bowen (Utah Royals), Ali Riley (Orlando Pride), and Rosie White (OL Reign) are the four kiwis contracted to NWSL teams for 2020.

Similarly, the MLS is hoping to collect all 26 of its teams in Orlando, Florida at some point, split those teams into four groups, then play their own World Cup style tournament. Groups will be seeded just enough that the champs (Seattle), shield holders (LA Galaxy), cup holders (Atlanta), and hosts (Orlando) won’t have to play each other and they’ll also keep the East/West conference things. Teams would play five group games leading into quarter-finals and beyond. But, confusingly, they also want to play a proper regular season after this so the group games will also later on count as regular season games.

An early June arrival in Orlando is the plan, followed by quarantined training, then the tournament would begin a month later. Although this is all still just a working plan at this stage. Similar health issues exist for players here too and the player’s association is busy in negotiations. Kiwis contracted for the 2020 MLS: Michael Boxall, James Musa, Noah Billingsley (Minnesota), Winston Reid (Sporting KC), Bill Tuiloma (Portland), Deklan Wynne (Colorado), Kyle Adams (Houston) & Elliot Collier (Chicago).

As for the blokes in the USL, they’re all still only allowed in limited training groups and nothing has been decided yet as to what form a 2020 season may take. Or, in the league’s own words: “all options remain on the table”."

A Kiwi MLS bench off. Both Wynne & Reid unused subs as Sporting Kansas beat Colorado draw 3-2.

Plenty of late drama.

Rapids equalised at 84 mins, when down to 9 men! Their 5th and last sub Jonathan Lewis with the goal.

Earlier Scot Danny Wilson was sent off at 61 mins when they were up 1-0, and then they went down to 9 men when Englishman Jack Price was given his marching orders, when they were down 2-1. Both straight reds.

But still time for SKC to grab the winner at 91 mins, when I guess the weight of 2 extra players told.

More of the bad of VAR (dodgy as handball & pen to SKC), obviously riled Rapids players.

Not in the match day squad as Rapids lose 1-4 at home to Real Salt Lake.

Wonder where Wynne is at with Colorado. 5 times on the bench over this interrupted MLS season, but no mins.

Last in a Rapids match day squad, a month ago at the Orlando tourney.

Of course is almost certain Nix will very soon be needing a new LB!
