I am not convinced that playing 2 games a week in the peak of the Australian heat for a prolonged spell is that great an idea.

Outed this idea on twitter but I thought it would be worth posting here as well. Given that the Nix can sign both Australians and kiwis without filling up import slots, shouldn't Aussie teams be able to do the same for kiwi players given that for them, kiwis do fill up an import slot?

It does give us an unfair advantage, but I don't think it makes sense from an Australian football point of view to call New Zealanders local players for their teams and reduce the amount of Australians playing.

Hey guys, anyone know of any sites that show full replays of A League games?

The YouTube channel that shows the games live does iirc, just means you need to use a VPN to access it. The Opera browser has an inbuilt VPN, tho I haven't tried using it to access it.

So Adelaide signs a striker, City gets one of Australia's best strikers, Vuc upgrades their CB (Donachie >>> Ansell), Sydney signs a top striker - it's going to be very hard to get higher than 5th/6th, I feel.

Don't know what strings City pulled to get McClaren signed 'within' the window.

Well, we signed an ex-Irish international striker.  By the comments on this forum he's all class. I look forward to seeing Sheridan perform once he settles in.  And while we need some backup for midfield, clearly none were floating around to be signed.

They didn't get McLaren in the window, they got around it by his other club releasing him from his contract, so that he was uncontracted, then signed him today.

Aussie teams were able to until Aussie stood Oceania up and jumped in bed with Asia.

Consensus is growing behind a slightly shorter A-League season for the next campaign as the competition evolves to accommodate an 11th team.

The tricky dynamic behind admitting Western Melbourne Group (WMG) for the 2019-20 campaign is likely to mean a 26-round league, down one game from this season, to include a full home and away fixture as well as three additional home and away matches.

Great news re Hakeem Al-Araibi, the former Bahrain player detained in Thailand. All the support and work done on his behalf has paid off and the Thai authorities are releasing him tonight.

Aussie's going to the polls on the Saturday of Grand Final weekend. That makes things interesting, more likely to be a Sunday Grand Final now? If the Glory hosts, I'm almost certain it will be a Sunday afternoon game.

An Independant A League or not? The owners need to grow some and tell everyone else that is will be  from next season and onwards. They need to tell these minor clubs to either front up with their own resources to join and expand the A League or to just back off and let the rest get on with it. Enough stuffing around. Leave the politics to the washed up free loaders that seem to be dragging this all down.

Sydney have a Tuesday night ACL game in the week after the GF, so if they are in the GF it might have to be on a Saturday night after all.

We do not have any plans for Tuesday night so if Sydney FC are too busy getting ready for the ACL game we could always help out with the GF against Perth, and our price is that Sydney pays the flight costs of Perth Glory to come here for the GF instead, as a last minute rearrangement.  It's not like we're too proud to give a fellow club a helping hand.

Head of the A-League Greg O'Rourke has confirmed the competition is set to have its regular season cut from 27 to 26 games.

Bleh, I would prefer more games than less.

Well a 14 team competition where every team players each other thrice would result in a 39 game long season, so the move makes sense imo.

Might work out ok because we're unlikely to get 3 games with Melbourne and Sydney teams. 3 games against Newcastle and CCM is ideal.

GOR was saying that we will have to put up with an unbalanced draw until we hit 14 teams, so probably a decade knowing how slow things change.

I've mentioned this before in the independent A-league threads. Fox has already put the NLWG on notice that they can't expect that the next TV deal will be better than the current one, and that in fact, there's every chance that it'll be a worse one.

The season will be 143 games, so I assume there will be a round with 3 games in it around ACL time.

See, they should have allowed 2 teams in at a time and saved themselves a whole lot of headaches. Too simple I guess.

We are staying at 26 games until there is 14 teams.

Isn't there set criteria around how many games a season must have in relation to ACL spots?

I think if the A-League has any fewer rounds/games then they'll lose a spot.

NB: This may not be correct and completely fabricated.

So how does that work?

The phone play each team twice = 20 games.

Then play 6 other teams?

A league needs a minimum of 27 games to qualify for the ACL, this includes Cup games & Final Series. So 26 games & 1 FFA Cup game and your sorted.
