Interesting statistics from the players GPS trackers;

In the first game (rainy and coolest game but still hotter than NZ summer)  Max Drake apparently ran ~11.4 km, he regularly does over 10km.

Against PNG (probably hottest game) he managed ~8.4, indicative of how energy sapping the heat and humidity was.

Meanwhile, in the final Oskar van Hattum apparently ran a 33.4km/h sprint, which if accurate would have put him 7th in Russia2018

https://www.sportsjoe.ie/amp/football/fifa-reveal-20-fastest-players-summers-world-cup-167154

I doubt though that any of the players at the Russia World Cup or the OFC u-16's Honiara 2018 would better the fastest player to ever play in NZ's national league, Clem Khaiseb from Namibia, who had a world-class 100 m sprint time of 10 seconds in the mid 1990's when he represented Namibia at the World Student Games. NZ's Olympic sprinter at the time, Craig Donaldson, had a slower time!

Clem could have had an international athletics career but prefered playing football. Football in Canterbury benefited when he arrived to study agriculture at Lincoln University in the mid 1990's. His first season of winter football he scored more than 40 goals.

Went on to play for Christchurch City in the national league in the later 1990's and scored hat-tricks despite Canterbury football being in the doledrums at national league level at the time.

Clem was also one of the few (maybe the only) players from outside the OFC to be selected to play for their country at senior level on the strength of performances in NZ's national league. Debuted for Namibia I think about 1999.

Clem's brother also came out to play in Christchurch, Sigmund 'Siggy', but not in the same class of Clem. Great story also with Clem that two clubs in Christchurch were chasing to sign Clem and one offered Clem a push bike to get to training and the other club offered a loan of a car, Clem was a smart guy went with the car.

Did the National League run over summer in the 90s? I was young and didn't follow it at all. I did however watch the Marley Games each summer and it would have been exciting to have seen Clem up against Chris and Gus Nketia as well as American David Oaks.

the first Summer National League was in 1996 and apart from 1999 when they had a North and South Island league with the winners playing off and 2004 where they restructured to the current franchise format it has been played every summer since

Sad to hear that Solomon Islands look like losing their place at this year's U17 WC.

Don't condone at all use of ineligible players, but harsh on those that worked hard, were eligible and who now miss out because of the actions of others.

The Solomon federation should not be blaming the player here - its their role to make sure players are eligable... just like the did against us for the u23's.

It was the player decision to commit fraud by using a false birth certificate to get a passport with a false birthdate so think he has to take some individual responsability.

I'm not saying the player doesn't hold blame as well, just that ultimately, the fault is with the Solomons Fed - if they have discovered the fraud now, why not earlier... did they dig deep enough?

Bit more information in this article

https://www.siff.com.sb/solomon-islands-world-cup-...

SIFF ask for documentation, get a passport from him, and maybe birth cert, how deep do they need to dig?

Deeper than S.I. Immigration/passport people?

As Jeremy Ruane pointed out on Twitter, it's interesting, as, for example, PNG would have made the semis, Fiji wouldn't have lost to Solomon Islands in the semis etc. A tricky one for OFC to unravel.

That is a bugger for you. Hopefully they can keep the tourney in South America, say Colombia.

Fun place to watch football.

No confirmation of dates that I can see, but expecting October or November

To add insult to injury, Peru, having been stripped of hosting rights, have now failed to qualify for the tournament due to bottom team Ecuador beating top team Argentina 4-1 in the final round robin game, while Brazil, who failed to even make the final round of qualifying,  qualified automatically as new hosts.

That must hurt.

Solomon Island had their expulsion reversed on appeal.

https://www.oceaniafootball.com/solomon-islands-pl...

Kinda leaves the door open to unscrupulous governments cahooting with their local football bosses to issue passports to 23 year olds with false birth dates.

Wonder if FIFA will let the guy play in Brazil on the same premise.

NZ-U17s squad to play in Panda Cup announced.

https://www.nzfootball.co.nz/newsarticle/76757

A few omissions from the WC qualifiers, a couple through injury. Good to see them keeping open mind and having a good look at players.

U19 invitational tournament, so could be very tough if other sides field U19 teams.

Games

May 25 vs China 11pm

May 27 v South Korea 7pm

May 29 v Thailand 7pm

Not sure about broadcast, but previous years it appears some games were live streamed on YouTube

This age-fraud business is rife.

https://www.goal.com/en/news/age-cheats-guinea-dis...

And this is even AFTER they bone scanned and barred several listed players from even participating in the CAF tournament.

Better in the last 10 min before half time. Looking more composed playing the simple passes rather than trying the glory ball each time.

Deserve there 1-0 lead.

Found it even better when I installed the app...even though it's all in Chinese.
