Good game with an incredible finish. Conditions pretty bad for last 10-15 minutes which saw a few players lose their footing. Not sure about crowd - maybe 1500 ? Two good groups of supporters. A political comment - NCR probably had about 100 supporters travel with the, When HBU were in the final of the Premiership they had about 10 . Say no more ? Was the first time I have been at NHS since they started the development for baseball - not sure if it showed on TV but basically the eastern 2/3 of the seats on the northern side have been removed to make space for a baseball diamond. The stadium is now stuffed as a major venue - some may be delighted with that but I don't like Eden Park as a football venue so I'm not sure whether it's a great idea for a team that has about a 2 month season. Lastly , it's really easy to dislike Bueno although he was a bit better behaved today.

oh yeah, there's no doubt that napier city rovers should hold the isps handy franchise for the region. i notice that roger wilkinson said as much prior to the match

didn't know about those new developments as NHS. i did see all of the works going on and guessed they might be building a new stand to make it more intimate

No one cares about the mickey mouse franchise league that's why. Birko-Waitak in 2016 had 4,500 there. Say no more indeed.

hmm aye Birko-Waitak was a good crowd but considering the game was just down the road for both clubs you'd expect that number there - had they played the final in Napier today they would have likely got the same size crowd (at least)

And there was 4000 for the Birko v Western Suburbs last year. Crowd was appalling to be fair. I can understand Napier supporters not going but its only a short trip up the motorway for Melville!

Having said that if Birko had to play a final in Napier it would have been packed out with red and white as well.

Would you though. The following year Onehunga played Central and the crowd was pitiful. Whilst there are usually mush better crowds at the Club matches than National league there are very few clubs that could get 3000-4000+ into North Harbour stadium.

Thought the same, even the bit at 3nd where rovers supports consuming vodka... a law abidine policeman as well!  Hilarious

Have to question use of what of limited funds NZF have to use this stadium when cheaper options even within Auckland could be used. Also the advertising for the womans league TV ads is that really good spending? I under building profile etc but buy some kids some balls in some balls or something.

Promoting women's football is one of NZFs core jobs, so... yes.

Am I the only one that thought the quality of the game wasn't that good? Napier were woeful in the first half and couldn't stop giving the ball away, they only really got back in the game when Melville had their player sent off.

Best player appeared to be the no 11 for Melville - Craig Pritchard maybe? He caused Napier all sorts of problems with his movement and getting in between the lines.

I thought it was good, but there were players well below the standard on the pitch.

unforgivably in terms of $$ spent, 3 of those were napier imports!

Nope. This game was terrible. It wasn't even as good as 1, 2, turnover. Quite frequently it was just 1, turnover, 1, turnover.

To be fair....finals are often pretty awful as teams are reluctant to attack.

In that case, I think my Sunday League team thought they were playing a final every week all season!

The first ever Chatham Cup final was played today 97 years ago.

At Athletic Park, Seacliff from Otago defeated Wellington YMCA 4-0 in the first final of the Chatham Cup, which has become New Zealand football’s longest-running and best-known national club competition.

The trophy – a fine silver replica of the English FA Cup – was presented to the New Zealand Football Association on 15 December 1922 by Captain C.B. Prickett on behalf of the crew of the Royal Navy cruiser HMS Chatham, as a mark of appreciation for the hospitality they had received during the ship’s tour of duty in New Zealand waters.

In case anyone else is interested in the origins of the name of the Cup, the HMS Chatham was named for being built at the Chatham Dockyward in Kent.  This is from Wikipedia:

The name Chatham was first recorded as Cetham in 880. The Domesday Book records the place as Ceteham.

Most books explain this name as a British root ceto (like Welsh coed), plus Old English ham, meaning a forest settlement.[1][2] The river-valley site of Chatham is, however, more consistent with cet being an Old English survival of the element catu, that was common in Roman-era names and meant 'basin' or 'valley'.[3]
