Sorry I had to chuckle at 'overcrowded FIFA calendar'. From our perspective at least...

But for Socceroos is complete opposite, esp now they have been invited to Copa America.

FFA are already saying an AWs game would be 2022 at the earliest!!

Opportunity was actually possibly there in November window last year when they had just one game in Jordan. So rather than AWs playing Lithuania, could have been a game verus Socceroos in London following AWs Irish game?? I'm sure it's more complicated than that, but sometimes wonder how much NZF and FFA talk to each other.

For 2020 the Socceroos have 2 WC qualifiers in March window (Nepal & Kuwait), another 2 qualifiers in June (Jordan & Chinese Taipei), then straight after fly to South America for Copa America and minimum 5 games there.

I imagine then further World Cup qualifiers in Sept-Oct-Nov 2020 windows.

Global warming is certainly a thing, but it's far more an issue about restrictions on - back burning, vegetation clearance near houses & a reduction in cattle being allowed to graze the undergrowth in certain forested areas - so greatly increasing the amount of tinder dry 'fuel'.

It's a complicated issue for Oz, that a few less planes in the sky won't solve.

Herald on Sunday Michael Burgess spoke with Danny Hay saying that the new age group coaches are (U17) Martin Bullock and (U20) Tony Readings. If its the mens team then rough on Des hopefully he's not lost to football in NZ.

Its paywalled but if you have a library card with Wellington or Auckland then you can read the Herald for free using the PressReader app.

It's worth noting that before anything else, the original dates of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the 2020 OFC Under-19 Championship clashed.

Sounds like the same group of parents as they did with Kevin Fallon in July 2014.

They think they will have a better chance in being in the team with Des.

Don't get me wrong, Des is a better coach than Danny and his hanger oners.

"Legal showdown looms after Mt Albert gives Fallon the boot for allegedly swearing at rival.

Players on a top Auckland college football team are said to be planning to boycott games - and even threatening to leave the school - after their coach was sacked.

Kevin Fallon, the former All Whites coach, has been involved with Mt Albert Grammar School's football teams and academy for 18 years. His involvement has led to almost 30 local and national titles.

Late last week, Fallon was told he was no longer needed. His departure follows an alleged sideline incident involving an opposing school, the facts of which are disputed." NZ Herald.

Why the fudge do the players need to step up and say "Hang on, wtf is going on with our coaches"? How are people making bad enough decisions that that even needs to be a thing?

NZF manage to bungle from one debacle to the next with no sign of competence in between. Change the people at the top, but nothing works any better. No wonder players eligible for other countries can't wait to be off, the way Des has been treated by NZF and Danny Hay is sickening.

In what way exactly? Not saying it hasn't, just curious what you mean.

If Hay and/or others at NZF are actively undermining Buckingham, trying to get him moved on, that's plain wrong and BS.

But if NZF are low on cash, and have a current U23 (really now U24) coach who is going to be doing squat for the next 6 months - well then that's a financial decision. I see Readings the now U17s gaffer will be effectively job sharing between NZF and Eastern Suburbs. Where else could Des work. ACFC? Back to the Nix for a time?

Anyway from a purely workload reason, Hay shouldn't be given the Olympics job.

Next year his focus should be solely the AWs. Probably every FIFA window now in 2021 will be busy with OFC qualifiers (certainly if none are played later this year). Also sometime in 2021 OFC's opponent for the intercontinental playoffs in March 2022 will be confirmed. Hay will be busy enough preparing for all that in 2021. Tokyo would be an unnecessary distraction.

NZF are always low on cash, thanks to their mis-management of any funds they've received from the 2 WC appearances etc.

Des was replaced as U20 coach before the Covid situation developed. Readings is the new U20 coach, his appointment was made over a month ago in a very quiet and understated manner. In essence, Des is being moved on and his time at NZF is basically at an end. This is why we're seeing the comments coming from the players.

Maybe Des has other commitments he made for post Olympics. He would certainly be in demand in some sectors considering his performances with NZ age group teams. And you couldn't blame him after missing out on the AW job if he started looking for post Olympic work opportunities.

Wow okay, cheers didn't know that. Thought Readings had the U17 gig.

That is disappointing news.

But yes as Ranix says there is a possibility Buckingham has already got a gig somewhere else, though if that was true would seem the U23 players who wrote the letter weren't aware.

The fact that Des was quietly moved on from the U20 job suggests that this is NZF-driven, rather than Des-driven (not to mention the rumour mill on this, which is obviously difficult to verify here).  The U23 situation is a continuation of that.

Doubt they got much from FIFA back in 1982!

Basically FIFA's $10M from the 2010 WC, and the Mexican TV rights money from 2013 has bank rolled all women's and men's international programmes for the last 10 years. International Teams Fund - which still has a few million in it I think.

Andrew Martin's payout, and having to spend a bundle on lawyers and reports post the Heraf saga - stand out as 2 financial black holes of recent times.

Optimistic about Pragnell, but early days.

Before anything else, the U-20 job (OFC U-19 Championship in late July) was (pre-Covid-19) incompatible with the U-23 job (Tokyo Olympics in late July).

no idea of the figures, but I recall reading some articles about how the money NZF received was largely wasted and not spent on grass roots football as promised. The $10m received from the 2010 funded some great international appearances which is good and has been used to encourage a lot of new footballers - the trouble has been the money that has been wasted paying out CEOs etc has effectively meant NZF is broke and can't fund us to get to any more big tourneys.

The last time I spoke to Andrew Pragnell, he had no information to offer about whether NZ Football had asked staff to take paycuts.

DES BUCKINGHAM TO HOST WEBINAR FOR AUFC COACHING TEAM ⚽️?

Later this week, NZ U20/U23 Head Coach, Des Buckingham, is set to lead a webinar on ‘Team Culture’ for the AUFC Academy coaches who have been completing regular Coach Education sessions with Hiroshi Miyazawa.

AUFC is privileged to have the opportunity to listen and learn from Des’ first-class knowledge and experience. This is a fantastic opportunity for the Football Club’s coaches to continue in their development and we’d like to thank Des for making this possible.

its not been completely wasted they used a sizeable chunk of it to set up the NZ Football Foundation and that does provide money for grassroots football
