Not in match day squad as West Ham lose 1-0 at Sheffield United.

Hammers 2 spots off drop zone.

Two teams currently in the relegation spots Watford & Bournemouth, play this weekend. Bournemouth would overtake Hammers with a win.

Moyes with his work cut out.

Wood's Burnley in potential trouble too. Only 4 points off the drop zone, and a 3 game run of Chelsea (A), Leicester (H) & Man U (A).

On the bench as Hammers draw 1-1 at home verus Everton.

West Ham were 1-0 up.

Hammers remain just above the drop zone, as Bournemouth lose at Norwich and Villa draw with Brighton.

Those results also help Wood's Burnley, who host Leicester tomorrow.

On the bench as Hammers lose 4-1 at Leicester. Jarred Gillett 4th official.

Was 2-1 until 81 mins.

See Moyes made 2 subs at HT (Snodgrass & Masuaku off), when down 2-0.

Hammers in trouble. Only out of the drop zone on GD from Bournemouth.

Next 4 EPL games Liverpool x2, Man City & Brighton. Gulp.

WBA in FA Cup this weekend. Maybe Reid will start that game.

Still no game time for Reid (not even in match day squad), as Hammers bundled out of the FA Cup by West Brom 0-1.

Secretly Moyes is probably pleased. Can now focus solely on trying to preserve the Hammers EPL status.

Next 4 EPL games is extremely tough. Starting with hosting the league leaders on Wednesday.

Liverpool x2, Brighton & Man City.

Little snippet at the end of this article saying he's turned down the chance to go to Charlton on loan

From this week's Flying Kiwis.

https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2020/january/24-january/winston-reid-its-time-find-rhythm-again

Word is that he’s turned down a loan offer to Charlton while at least two MLS clubs are interested in his services depending on whether or not he’s about that Stateside life right now. Considering how mud West Ham were against WBA, he might have edged even closer to a return simply by avoiding the tarring-and-feathering there, although the rumours do persist...

MLS rumours are interesting.

Reid still has a few years to go on his Hammers deal?  Leaving to go anywhere else would involve a paycut?

I guess if West Ham do get relegated (a real possibility esp if you look at their next 4 games), some of younger first choice defenders (Diop, Masuaku, Balbuena, Fredericks) could leave the club - so opening a door for Reid to play regularly in The Championship, but still be on top wages?

2-0 to the Reds.

Hammers badly need to beat Brighton at home this weekend.

Man City and Liverpool again - both away, to follow.

To cover part of his wages- surely he's on good coin that other clubs can't match

I seem to recall 80,000 pounds a week

If the hammers are relegated however I'm sure there is a clause his wage would plummet

Loan deal to MLS club sounds like is gonna happen.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/nz-teams/119141321/all-whites-captain-winston-reid-headed-to-major-league-soccer-club-on-loan

"Winston Reid is going to join a club in America on loan, everything being well," West Ham manager David Moyes said.

"I don't want to give you a club just now, he's got to get through a medical and a few other things."

Reid joined West Ham in 2010 after representing New Zealand at the World Cup in South Africa.

The Daily Mail reported that Sporting Kansas City and expansion side Nashville are both in the running to sign the 31-year-old centre-back.

FYI - from AWs perspective with the March FIFA window (23-31 March), Nashville don't play but Sporting KC do. Also out of interest both these MLS sides are in the Western Conference.

Having a bit of a scour around the internet to see where he'll pop up - No luck with that so far, but have found several articles describing how much a loss he will be for the Hammers. Definitely a fan favourite.

West Ham fans reacting to Reid's proposed move away from the club...

Even if you aren't a Hammers fan, it's got to warm your heart to know he's made such an impact for them over his years of service to the club. Right up there with Ryan Nelsen in terms of performance, impact and being the consummate club man as far as I'm concerned.

Not bad for a guy who was absolutely pilloried for his performances when he first came on the scene either...

Good luck to him in the States though, hopefully he remains injury free and re-discovers some form and momentum while getting good game time.

Another good little yarn from Flying Kiwis (I'm a Patreon member). Didn't realise Reid still had 3 years on his Hammers contract. Thanks Big Sam!

"David Moyes: “Winston Reid is going to join a club in America on loan, everything being well. I don't want to give you a club just now, he's got to get through a medical and a few other things.”

There you go then, forget about the rumours and the innuendo, this one’s coming straight from the mouth of the head horse himself. Those words were spoken at Moyesy’s press conference midweek (ahead of the game against Liverpool... which West Ham lost, obvs) and they come after reports that Winnie had already rejected a loan deal from Charlton. Davie didn’t wanna name clubs but Sporting Kansas City and Nashville FC have both been mentioned, with the latter sounding like the ones that have won out for his signature. Interestingly the two cities whose teams took part in the AFC Championship game in the NFL a couple weeks back, maybe Winnie’s just a massive Derrick Henry fan. DC United have also had some traction... shout out to Ryan Nelsen. But Nashville SC it shall be.

Any move for Winston is complicated immensely both by his recent injury history, not having featured for West Ham in a proper game for nearly two years, and also his massive contract. A contract that he signed just after Sam Allardyce left the club and which, incredibly, still has THREE MORE YEARS to run on it. The end of the 2022-23 season is when he’s off the books for the Hammers which is awkward for all involved if he’s not going to be trusted to play in senior games. He needs to get his match fitness up after so long out but that’s simply not an option for a team still looking over their shoulders at the relegation zone.

Hence the move to Nashville SC - (that’s SC as in Soccer Club) – will happen on temporary basis as a loan deal. There had been chatter of a two year loan deal which would definitely have been a ‘run down the clock on that contract’ sorta move from WHU but the NZ Herald reckons we’re talking six months so as to allow him to return to London for the next preseason. Which, in turn, would mean leaving the MLS expansion side midway through their own season. Also, the Premier League transfer window has nothing to do with this one since he’s an outgoing fella so it’s the MLS window that matters for his registration and that opens on 12 February. He’s already in Tennessee for a medical, so they say. Expect word imminently."

Ahhhh didn't mean to Endorse.

If reports are true that failed medical, is all sounding a bit messy.

I'm sure he will find a home eventually, but must be testing everyone's patience, including his.

Wow, that's not good news at all, especially since Winnie himself said his lack of game time was more due to a) the Hammers' relegation battle and b) his lacking the 'rhythm' of training and playing at that level.

I guess Nashville were probably going to pay a good chunk of his salary so they did their due diligence and put him through his paces and gave him a thorough medical

EDIT: Found this tweet from MLS correspondent Tom Bogert. No mention of a failed medical but hard to think why else they would pass on him at this stage

on a slightly more serious note, what were the loan rules in terms of money, if they wanted to recuperate some of that? does it all count towards our salary cap?  remember there was something about it with city trying to get free players

IIRC the complete cost of the player from the home club counts towards the cap, but he could be marquee...

Feel for him as he is one of our greatest players and injuries have wrecked his career in recent times.

Saying that I'm pleased that he has such a useful contract - plenty of players have had both their careers and livelihoods fudgeed up by injury and he won't be one of them

Yeah, I guess we have a long list of players who have played almost 170 games in the Premier League for a club like West Ham. (most as a regular starter, and quite a few as captain) Nowhere near the greatest, for sure...

Are you mad?

I think he would be up there. Not many have made it at the premiership or a comparable level over an extended period and that surely is the test. Rufer, Nelson, Wood getting there. I can't think of many others

What else could it possibly be? You don't travel to America to be told "no, we don't want you" unless its a medical thing given he wouldn't be there without the fianncial side of it being agreed.

So wonder why Kansas City took him and Nashville didnt? If West Ham get relegated, wonder if its more or less likely they would try to keep him after loan spell.

Wonder if he will get to hang out with Mahomes :)

Real good news, it's been way too long since he was playing.

May now miss AWs games against Oman (March 25th) and Bahrain (March 30th), though.

Kansas have a MLS game March 28th. Guess it depends what terms he's negotiated etc.

Still great to see a loan move finalised.

Peter Vermes, Sporting KC head coach & GM: “This is now three days in a row, he’s trained three days in a row. He’ll train tomorrow again and... I don’t have a timeline yet but our objective is to get him fit so he’ll be ready to start playing with us as soon as he’s ready.”

Unsurprisingly not in the match day squad, as Sporting Kansas visit Vancouver for Matchday 1.

Still no doubt getting to know the names of his team mates, and settling into the US of A.

SKC coach gives a little 1 minute update on Reid, between from about 12.30 mins in in this video conference, after his first week.
https://www.sportingkc.com/post/2020/02/26/peter-vermes-theres-no-doubt-weve-added-quality-personnel?autoplay=true
Their coach has been there 12 seasons. Must be decent.

"12th-year manager Peter Vermes—the longest tenured MLS coach and the only coach to spend 12 consecutive MLS seasons with the same team—Sporting won four major championships last decade and made eight straight playoff appearances from 2011-2018. The club fell short of the postseason last year, ending the fourth-longest playoff streak in league history, and will enter the new campaign with aspirations of becoming a title contender once more."

Winnie could well start off by playing for SKC II in the USL. They start their season next weekend

From Vancouver's Twitter. Canadians being such nice people, doesn't transfer well to football fan hooliganism.
