What's happened to Halswell?

Used to watch them a lot under Steve Wooddin and Kevin Mulgrew. Always had a good team with Keith Grosvenor, Scott Webster, Gary Wooddin etc. Even the side that got to the Chatham Cup Semi Final in 06 was still a good one.

Does not help any club when they seem to change their coach every season.

From FC Twenty11 website:

FC Twenty11 is excited to announce the appointment of Don Saxton & Mark Anderson as the new management of our men’s first team for the 2020 season.

Don & Mark have both had previous coaching experience with Burnside AFC (one of the founder clubs of FC Twenty11) and are keen to get the team back into the Mainland Premier League following relegation in the 2019 season.

Roll on the 2020 season.

CCL could be open this year. What are people’s thoughts on the teams lining up? And any big transfer rumours?

Good to see Mid Canterbury making the step up to round it up to 8 teams and remove the bye!

There's a rumour I've heard that Tom Chadwick is getting paid big bucks at Halswell this season. Any confirmation? But then saw he scored in a pre season game for Waimak. Quick turn around!

Tom Chadwick is a disease on any team he plays for. Sulky, selfish & angry. Tom is the player who assaulted a referee & then threw an innocent club man under the bus while playing for Waimak in 2013. An incident tht still hangs over the club & tarnishes it!  This guy has never owned up & jumps between clubs like he’s the next big thing. ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT angry guy!

The CCL is not an open race this year as many predict.  The team tht wins it will be the team with the most settled squad. Adding the odd “superstar” won’t get a club across the line over 20 games. Year after year teams attempt to fill their team with journeyman who don’t play for the crest on the shirt or for the spirit of the club but are happy to play for coin.  True blue club men who have come up thru the junior ranks, have pride in their club & play with passion every Sat are often the better option frm 1-11. Game on come March, may the best team find promotion awaits ?

Uni get a fresh influx of players every year though so you never know. Saw they were hosting trials this week so they probably don’t even know the make up of their team at the moment

CCL looks wide open this year. Parklands beat Uni who beat Mid Canterbury who beat Parklands, all pre season games. Looking forward to seeing how this plays out. I wouldn't consider any result an upset this year. Guessing Halswell will be favourites if they are splashing the cash!

How good is it to have some football back? ?

The Waimak vs Coastal game today was interesting. Waimak 3-1 up at half time lost 5-3. Couple of screamers from Luke Fraser. Onto another Fraser, Kane, has the rule where players get sin binned for dissent been thrown out?? His language towards the officials was despicable today.

Anyway, hopefully the season is good for everyone.

Physiotable agree that it's great to see football back and for me and many others it was fantastic to see the players so committed and passionate given this was a friendly. I think most people know that I am Gordon Fraser long time Waimak supporter and I have previously  made this known on this forum.   I don't defend anyone criticizing officials especially when they're volunteering as this trio did. I don't think though you should single out one individual when the critique of officials was consistent from both sides. In particular the away side gave the young boy on the line a real spray which he didn't deserve. So Physiotable you should probably front up and identify yourself so that the individuals you name are on a level playing field.

Fair play if you are happy to identify yourself but it kind of defeats the object of having usernames. What I will say is that I'm a current player at a CCL club. And also know other people at a number of other clubs and within the refereeing community. My point about the dissent is still valid though, and I hope referees are strong enough to enforce it consistently and fairly. Maybe Kane stood out to me, as I have seen him do this on a number of occasions and never receive any punishment from officials. I apologise if I have upset you for picking out one of your boys.

I see Tom Chadwick has started justifying the cash he is receiving by getting both Halswell goals today. Money well spent so far! Be interesting to see how he goes against the current meanest defence in the CCL next week.

And a great piece of refereeing at Kendall for sending off a player for swearing by action at an opposition player after scoring. I wonder if there's any history there......

James Hurren ex Waimak player scores from a free kick and after copping an earful from one particular Waimak player gives him the raised finger. Linesman (they're not actually assistants) brings it to the attention of the referee and James is shown a straight red. Maybe technically correct decision but in the context of the game and given the constant and undeniable foul language that seems to be part of the game these days it doesn't seem much common sense has been  applied here. Bit of a shame because it was a great contest. As for the Waimak player dishing the abuse to be fair he probably gave more to his supposed teammates. Would have been interesting to see the reaction had one of them flipped him the bird.

Whilst I agree the the language is terrible, it is probably more covered up than actions to the spectators. So credit to them for making what is in your words technically a correct decision. After all it is a correct decision, which is what we want. And from personal experience the 'linesmen' need to the more of a voice. I have had conversations with them during and after games and they have said it is the referees decision and they can't give any advice to the referee. Laughable really when they claim to be a team. Hopefully this is an improvement from the officials.

Interestingly it was also the Assistants call in the sending off of the SAS player near the end of Saturday’s game at English Park for a stamp too.

The referee missed the offence as he had already called a foul and was sorting that out when the incident occurred. Good to see the assistants are actually assisting the referees in what is a difficult job.
