alternative view would be the standard of local football was trash and someone had to raise the bar which meant that clubs didn't have as many players sinking beers in their clubrooms and then turning out for the top regional team. local football clubs all talk a good game but have no interest in anything but themself. clubs only want things on their terms like how many club coaches hold any sort of qualification that would allow them to coach a national league team of some sort.

FS have an office full of people not just the FDOs - what do they do what does the futsal guy do when theres no futsal comp on. clubs like mine think they are better than FS I think they do what they want most the time and we even had SU playing at our ground the other season but the club didn't even tell us through facebook or newsletters or anything.

also SU have a lot of sponsors on the website so they can't be too hard up for cash unless of course there are a heap of paid staff involved. what on earth is a player liaison anyway that was a new one to me when I read the article I think I know the person mentioned in the article and if its who I think it is he's thought he owned sunnyvale last season

I don't think lots of sponsors equals lots of money in this case.

I'm sure there's a breakdown of the yearly expenses/income for SU from last season somewhere too if you want to hunt it out and have a look at exact numbers though.

Southern United are an incorporated society, and therefore file their finacials on the Incorporated Societies Register.

Had a quick look - for the year to 30 June 18 (most recent accounts uploaded, but June 19 is clearly late) Sponsorship revenue of ~$20k, total revenue of ~$130k and a loss for the period of $130k also.

Not the healthiest set of books I've looked at today, and its not even 8.30am.

how in the world can that be sustainable is someone cooking the books somehow and can we see what fooball south are doing too. Has to be a big concern you think how can you even have a club with that sort of loss

Its not sustainable. Their equity was negative in 2018 and I hate to think what 2019 looks like. If they aren't getting Capital injections from somewhere then Southern United as an entity can't exist for long (but there have been 20 months since these results, so something could change)

Some interesting results in the weekend. I heard the reffing in the Tech game was horrendous. Worst penalty that's ever been given by every person i have talked to. Should be some good match ups this weekend.

My picks were woeful....

Cavvie had a bye and their 2nds let in 10. Will Malc get one over an old team?

Mosgiel to show their class and rebound against the SU youth team..

Will Roslyn recover against the "youthful" Island?

At least I should get the Queenstown at home result right...

And Football South Varsity another week off.

Caversham 1 v Dn Tech 1

Queenstown 6 v Northern 1

Mosgiel 5 v Wanaka 0

Roslyn 0 v Green Island 2

Given that it was Tom's technique that gave away the penalty at the weekend, I would say that he will learn a lot from Zane. When you dive at the ball with your knees first, you are not only risking a penalty but a leg injury too. Zane might also provide some might needed backbone to the Roslyn side.
