Tony Sage is 'standing down' all of Perth's players and staff, ie, no longer paying them.

A Jets player has Carona virus and the FFA has stood down 70% of their staff without pay too. Lean times coming for the A-League.

Nah, I've worked form home off and on for years - I'm way more productive.

So have I and I love it.  Now try with a four year old off kindy :'(  My wife works for an essential service so i've got about 4 hours work done over the past few days!

Edit: Have to add, we are incredibly lucky though, wife has so far kept all her hours and pay, and although my work has reduced, the subsidy will cover most of it.  Very grateful that we are in this position when others are struggling.

Yep, it can only work if you have an area which is separate from your living area or family areas to work.

Exactly.  My wife goes into the spare bedroom/converted office, shuts the door, and she's away, just like she's at work, except with her own personal chef to make her lunch!  Me, i'm stuck in the lounge in full view of the attention hungry monster!

As well as a Jets player.  It was inevitable, and another reason why trying to play out the season was ridiculous.

Very good item on tvone sportsnews about the Nix. Did the Payne and staff member stories, with Jets player story without any shock horror slant, then a very positive item about Tim Brown, the generous All Birds shoes donation and linking him back to the Nix several times.

My wife, an A&E nurse here in Bucks, UK scored a pair off All Birds UK. Best freebee any nhs staff have had.  She's very impressed by what Tim and the other owners have done.  It's also worked wonders for the brands profile in the UK.

Half of my colleagues in Engineering at LHR have it (Covid) so the rest of us are in line to get it or have had it already (most likely).

I am sure it would annoy some people but wouldn’t the Nix qualify for Govt business support? It may be sport but it’s still a business with the same structures as any other business. They sell a product in the form of entertainment. They are a registered company, have paid staff, they pay their taxes. I can’t see why the club should not have the same support. The govt said it won’t let businesses collapse or workers suffer because of the virus. The Nix are no different to any other NZ business IMO.

Leeds United have made their players take a massive pay cut.  Can see many bankrupt sports teams and unemployed players very soon.

Agree, though doubt Nix as a standalone business pay much in tax.

Yep, you'd hope so. Could be, thanks to the our government the nix come into next season (if it happens) more intact and better prepared than other teams.

You'd think a pro team playing in a foreign league and not under the national body wouldn't be high on a hand-out list

It's open to all NZ businesses in order to keep people employed, plenty of companies with no real value to NZ will be recieving handouts as well as companies who probably don't need it.

As far as other susbsidies go, there is the context of the Phoenix being the only professional channel for the worlds biggest game available to most kiwis.

Well just from a practical point of view- most of their business and staff are in NZ, so an NZ business surely? This is about everyone surviving not judging business merits.

What it means is we do more tests or even quarantine at the border then we re-open it when a vaccine is available.

Luckily we're an island thousands of kilometres out of everyones way.

There will be a lot of pressure to keep that border open somehow, even if there's a surcharge for testing every person that crosses.

Really can't see them opening the borders any time soon. They havnt taken the action they have to screw it up while other countries still have issues. Cant see any pressure making them open it early if they arnt happy with what they see. Can see plenty of focus on getting things going internally before taking any risks. Sadly I am not optimistic at all about any of our sports competing in Aussie competitions any time soon. Hope like hell I'm wrong but seeing some of the stuff going down in Oz It 0gives me no cause for optimism.

Could actually probably be done fairly cheaply, with likely plenty of empty University dorms or even empty motels now, near training facilities.

And Nix/Welnix ain't likely to be getting any dollars from FFA/Fox, until they are back playing. So they will be bleeding cash until that time.

Once other clubs agree on a date to restart the A League, will be huge pressure on the Nix committing to head back across the Tasman - that's presuming the league recommences behind closed doors. Hopefully by then matters are well sorted out in NSW/VIC, and it's as safe there as it can be.

It's the State premiers, that are showing leadership not ScoMo.

I know I'm a bit of a doomsayer when it comes to what's going on over here in Oz but judging by the number of groups of 5 or 6 friends (not families) sitting in groups in the park yesterday the concept of social distancing apparently applies to some but not others.

Stats today are supposedly showing some curve flattening; have to wait and see if that's just an anomalie, a positive sign or a kind of government spin exercise. Much as I realise that it's a thankless task for the government I am truly confused as to how they intend to deal with this emergency in the short term, let alone medium and long term.

Why would any Nix player consider going back to OZ for a lockdown now. The decision to go over and go into isolation is now shown to be seriously flawed after it has been announced the staff member caught it over there.

Disnt matter what pressure is applied  if the borders arnt open the Nix arnt going any where. You are kidding if you think they would commit to another lockdown if things arnt all clear.

It has been a shambles, part of that is because of the state and federal divide, and part of that is the government not handling it very well.

Good the curve is flattening though.
