Yep, no cases in Wellington in more than a month now, has to be one of the safest cities in the world at the moment.

No new cases for over a month. We went to zero active cases last week.

Not that I mean to detract from the overall point.

Different story in the UK and Mexico. There will certainly be no shortcuts in getting Hopper and Davila back to Aus if and when the season resumes. Along with a lot of other teams players that returned home overseas. Including coach Robbie Fowler.

Flights / Quarantine etc. Very complicated.

Besides I don't think that either NZ or Aus would be keen to let through non-nationals from either Mexico or the UK the way things are right now.

Don't think its that complicated there are flights coming in, does mean there would be a 2 week quarantine. Don't think that's really an issue as long as they don't arrive the last minute. Doubt very much that we are the only team to face this issue we are already aware of Fowler and Brisbane there must be others.

The issue that must be worrying the FFA is the different approaches of the State Governments. As it stands at present there would have to four teams relocated to NSW. May well be different by the time kickoff comes around but then again.

That's a bit unfair isn't it, wasn't he coming off an injury break. Given his contract is due to run out unless he has given an undertaking to come back wouldn't expect him to arrive in peak condition if he HOPEFULLY comes back.

hardly unfair, the season is still alive, he is still employed to play football - I'd have thought there would be some expectation that he'd be ready to play as soon as the competition restarts.

Sorry never realised the contracts had been sorted, also meant part of his being unfit was down to injury..Even despite being unfit his stats off the bench were pretty good

Won't be a problem once the government allows travel, I'd be comfortable if they opened up their borders for people coming here for business or work as long as them (or their company) paid for the quarantine.

Let's hope he can pick up where he left off. You could see Hooper was getting better with each game fitness wise. After the initial impact of the first couple of games wore off he struggled but then just before the break he really started to put the pedal to the metal.

The remainder of the A-League season increasingly looks set to be completed in a tournament-style format in a hub located in NSW, Victoria or Queensland.

The final rounds of the A-League season appear increasingly likely to be played in a hub location in a tournament-style fixture format.

FFA boss James Johnson said last week that NSW and Victoria were being considered as locations for the remainder of the suspended campaign.

On Thursday, it was confirmed Queensland was also being assessed with a plan to play the remaining 27 regular-season games and the finals series at venues in Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

I don't know the individual stats by state, but from 1,137,684 tests, Australia has had 7,081 overall positive tests. That's an infection rate of 0.6%.

So say NSW and VIC are x2 the national average you are still only looking at 1.2%.

It's bit like saying I would never drive in Southland, because the road toll there per capita, is x2 worse than Auckland's.

That might be the case but the states in Aussie seem to be having big problems with one another. Some of the stuff being said by some politicians is bloody childish. Surprised Queensland is even being considered given they reckon they arnt going to lift their quarantine any time soon.

You would think having it in SA would be the logical move, one active case in a month, currently no active cases. In the middle of everyone. But I just want to watch live football so I'm being selfish.

Only issue is our Premier is playing hardball with SA's AFL teams and sending them off to Queensland so he probably would do the same with A-League.

As much as I love my Nix if im honest having watched some recent Bundesliga played to empty stadiums. Im not that excited about watching any sport in empty stadiums.

Dosnt really matter what they do it just isn't anything like the real thing. Despite what they may say reckon it must be hard for the players to get themselves up.

If we go deep into the finals you won't care about the crowd.

This

If the Nix are still there, looking good going into the finals then no doubt we will all be behind them.

I take your point on the empty stadium issue. Watching the Bundesliga if you don’t have any interest in either of the teams it’s a hard watch. What is quite apparent is that teams that that can’t make the podium or be relegated don’t seem to be that motivated. It started from the first round where Shalke gave the impression they just couldn’t be bothered and got dicked 0-4 by Dortmund. It seems like plenty of mid table teams just want to get the whole thing over with and go home to their families. I have not looked at the Nixs opponent’s for the rest of the season but hopefully there are a lots of teams that won’t be that fired up.

I guess with the need to maximize television exposure most of the A-league games will be night matches. Which means they will need proper TV quality flood lights. That means stadium football grounds, which won’t be cheap to hire compared to a suburban ground.

Of course im going to be watching and loving every minute. But sorry  no way can you convince that any team will perform to the same level they would be if they had their fans screaming them home from either a 1-0 lead or wanting them to come back from a deficit.

Agree with Austin for those teams with something to fight for it may be easier to get your players up. Would be bloody hard to motivate yourself if your out of the top 6 and no fans screaming for you.

Are the Wellington based Nix back at training ?

Groups of 10 etc. Or do they need to wait till FFA say its ok to go back to training. Last of which I heard was potentially mid June.

Will be interesting to see how the border closures in New Zealand and Australia impact foreign players and coaches trying to return.

Yes. would have thought a strict 14 day quarantine minimum.

Imagine there will be some exemptions to the residents only rule tho. Not football but read on the week end American film crews planning to return to NZ to finish filming projects like Avatar, are happy to do 14 days quarantine to make it happen, which will get alot of NZ'ers back to work also.

Would have thought professional sport would allow similar exemptions for those on work visa's. But am only guessing.

Really hope FFA are in conversation with border authorities about this.

The rules of exemptions in Australia seem looser than NZ at this stage, so it would probably make sense for Uli and Hoops to go straight to Aus and do the isolation once.

Crews for the Americas cup are also wanting to arrive, the Government is investing a couple of hundred million into the film industry in the new budget and the Americas cup is also big for the economy so you'd expect if any could get through it would be them.

Would hope like hell anyone entering from America are given no exemptions at all and made to serve all their quarantine period. Don't care who they are they need to be in a government facility flashing wads of cash shouldnt buy them a border pass.

Just as an aside something I find funny from watching a some games in the last week.

Its okay for players to mark closely at corners and freekicks and have contact during the game but team mates need to social distance after a goal.

Almost as stupid as some of the double standards we have to live with.

Not sure, at least right now.

I (a NZ citizen) have had to request permission to travel to Australia to take up a job as currently the only people who are automatically allowed to enter Australia are Aussie citizens, Permanent Residents and NZers who normally reside in Australia.. If you are a close relative to an Australian citizen you can also ask for special dispensation.

Hopefully things will be a bit more relaxed by the time Uli and hopefully Hoops want to make the trip back Downunder

Apparently super netball imports from South Africa and England are being allowed to return to Australia to play in there comp. So that sounds promising and set some sort of precedence for pro sports players.

5 overseas netball players exempt to enter Australia. 14 day quarantine applies.

I'm worried we are gonna restart this season with nothing less then 5 loses in a row just like the start of this season, should we wipe this season off and play our youth now with Hooper and the Mexican gone?.
