Better picking last week...

GI to win 3-1 over Cavvie... maybe, hopefully a good game on a big pitch..

Wanaka to lose 2 - 3 Roslyn Wakari.. the horse to string two halves together..

Northern to lose 1 - 6 Mosgiel... got no idea on score, know the result..

Varsity to lose 1 - 3 Queenstown... scarfies maybe lacking matches..

Given that it was Tom's technique that gave away the penalty at the weekend, I would say that he will learn a lot from Zane. When you dive at the ball with your knees first, you are not only risking a penalty but a leg injury too. Zane might also provide some might needed backbone to the Roslyn side.

Trolling, i hope.

Fletcher Cup is second division.

And Northern lost in this division at the weekend too, so clearly there are some systemic problems with the five years plan at that club.

Pretty sad to see the state that Northern are in . If you look at their history in the Chatham Cup - 2 wins and 8 finals , admittedly the last one in the early 60's - they were obviously a great force at one stage. Clubs do go in cycles but they seem to have been on the decline for a number of years

@Gunners... did the refs not support Cavvy this weekend... wondering who got the sin bin at Sunnyvale?

@footballsouth... would be great to see some of the expensive coaches help Northern.

@mosgiel... not sure a 20-0 win on your FB is humble. Clearly Northern were not of a standard to be a competitive test.

HAH! You can't blame Mosgiel for basking in a big win, they can only play what's put out in front of them, I'm sure they still played some great footie to bang in 20 goals.

I do feel sorry for the Northern players who clearly aren't ready for Premier football and honestly probably never will be.

Even then I still can't understand how you can concede that many, SURELY when you're down a few you just shut up shop so you're not leaking a goal every couple of minutes.

If there's truth in swapping Prems and Fletcher's then serious questions have to be asked... But guessing it's too late to just dump them from Premier League. It's a shame because the rest of the league is more even than ever. Seems like the top 4 will be decided by who racks up the best goal difference in beating Northern

Div one...

Northern are currently 31 games without a win, 2 wins out of the last 57, this includes 2 wins & 2 draws, their last W was ironically against Mosgiel..

Pretty sad alright. When I was a student in Dunedin I enjoyed playing for Northern / North End United. There were good quality players and coaches (mid 70s).

Northern AFC this evening has mutually agreed to part ways with head coach Luiz Uehara with immediate effect. The club would like to thank Luiz for his commitment and appreciate his contribution to the club during the last two and a half years and wish him all the best for the future.

Arran Wilkinson has been appointed as interim coach.

@ sawu... article mentions Luiz fielded the Fletcher Cup team. Does belittle the comp and also puts in perspective Mosgiels accomplishment.

@ football south... would love to see the Irish experiment play at least one game in the ODT Premier League (helping Northern).. would leave a positive impression before they upsticks..

Picks for this week...

Cavvy to beat Wanaka 5-1 - Cavvy on the bounce

Dunedin Tech to lose to  Green Island 2-4 - cant see a clean sheet, tech will be up for a challenge but lack Islands attacking threat.

Mosgiel to draw with University 1-1 - Varsity keeper will keep them in the game.

Roslyn to beat Northern - lesser margin than last week,

Queenstown to go skiing...

2 out of 4 last week, dont think i would have won my money back...

Wanaka to lose 0-1 to Tech... sorry Wanaka, ive got it wrong the last two weeks, probably get it wrong this week.

Queenstown to lose 1-3 with Mosgiel.... Mosgiel's mobility will be the difference

Northern to lose 2 - 5 to Cavvy, Northern to take it to Cavvy  but run out of steam and quality

Otago University to win 5-2 with Roslyn... season in the balance, will OU turn up to play 90 mins?

Talking to myself... 3 out of 4, got the Wanaka result wrong again. Strange table to see historically dominant Dunedin clubs keeping Northern company.

Green Island to draw 2-2 with Wanaka, no idea both teams have been on a roll..

Caversham to lose 1-3 to Varsity, Changing times, Cavvy & Tech dont seem to be able to attract the quality students.

Dunedin Tech to beat Northern 2-1, Tech have scored 4 goals in 4 games, not expecting fireworks.

Roslyn to lose 1-3 to Queenstown, Roslyn cant seem to buy a result..

Picks for this week are... Top four Gap will widen this week. Picking loses for the bottom four clubs.

Mosgiel 4-1 over Roslyn,

Varsity 2-0 over Tech, tight game but still bank on Varsity having just a bit more quality.

Northern 0 - 3 GI, GI should be too strong, Northern are deiniftly tighter.

Queenstown 3-1 over Cavvie (home advantage and with Ebbinge playing at home)

good on you for trying to keep some interest in this league Nordkurve..

Looks like;

Queenstown 2 Caversham 1

Northern 1 Green Island 2

Mosgiel 1 Roslyn-Wakari 0

University vs Tech deferred as coach for Tech unavailable...

The class of a premier league when you have a bye, games deferred on a whim due to coach and player availability.. and clubs choosing not to put teams in the top league ?♂️

Not sure Ebbinge is... Cavvy won away at QT 9-2, no idea if he or who played for QT. Cavvies twitter feed was quite decent.

Not sure what is up with the incorrect results and late postings from Football South. They have enough staff not playing to handle the  posting. There is only 7 phone calls they need to make or 14 managers that need to text.

Picks that will never make money at the TAB...

On the rabbit patch, Mosgiel to take the points...

A draw between Tech and Queenstown. Tech seems to be struggling to score.

Green Island vs Varsity is a close game... Varsity are grinding out good wins, Island can be explosive, think ill go for a draw 2-2.

Big call but wouldn't be surprised if Northern get a point this weekend. It will depend on how Wanaka travel and their depth.

The Horse is looking hobbled on four points.

The split is looking like it will be Island, Varsity, Mosgiel and either Wanaka/Queenstown or the outside chance Cavvy.

Interesting round which will probably decide the final four.

Ill keep talking to myself...

Start at the lower end of the table... (definitely a new experience)

Roslyn vs Cavvy... probably Cavvy, they can score goals and Roslyn are having a tough time.

Mosgiel vs Tech... Tech have only scored against Roslyn, Northern and Wanaka, could be another blood bath.

Wanaka vs Varsity.. As much as Wanaka will want this result it will be a win to Varsity. Varsity probably the best squad in the league.

Queenstown vs GI.. two weeks ago I would have picked a GI win, then Queenstown demolish Tech. Always a tough trip to Queenstown, pick a draw.

as a JAFA, love to hear who's who in the regional league title races - helps a ton. bigger presence on this forum than the NRFL :)

as an aside, who do we reckon are the real key players for each side? some seem obvious, for example taking a look at Wanaka's side Adam Hewson sticks out like a sore thumb. very difficult to find info on the league that's not from the ODT or here

If you want to talk some more, listing the results on here following your predictions would be really cool, for lazy people like me who would love to know, but don't get around to searching for them. Hoping for an Invercargill team next year.

Thanks....

Each team has players that standout in some games and others not... compared to other leagues is the depth on the field.

Teams may have 8 decent players then 3 that are inbetween the Fletchers and the SPL.

GI - Matt is an athlete (why never in Southern United.. rhetorical), Tom, Eddie, tight back 5 etc etc

Mosgiel - Cam, Alex, Aiden, Cody before he left for Wellington, backline is tight, Rory looks good at this level. etc

Varsity - Oban, Tim, Ben and probably the strongest squad, Stu the keeper can be a real match saver on his day.

Roslyn - Harley, Tennesse (top player just needs to get a big preseason) etc team should do better

Tech - Rhys is a worker, good players, Team just not firing.

Cavvy - 2 Bens, Conner some really good young ones coming through. Club is affected by the better organised Varsity

Wanaka - only watched one game and wouldnt say Adam is a standout, seems a good player but wasnt getting good service. Mix of developing youth and older players.

Queenstown - Havent seen them play, seems some old heads in the press articles.

Northern - Another i havent seen play, Luiz flatters to deliver, pleased with the turnround, good people trying hard.

Invercargill, joint teams dont last, clubs like QP or Old Boys are the only ones that could really give it a crack. Waihopai and Southend cannot field DG teams which is sad. Not sure the local football community is getting good value for money from paid employees. Kenny isnt the answer to the question.

Timaru - no reason why they dont have a team. Not sure if FS really have developed and worked with Timaru.

Its a conundrum but havent seen many benefits from the improved SU performance. None of the imports have played locally, usually the local players were either on the bench or subbed.

Results....

2 out of 4 this week on the picks.

Slight surprise in Roslyn beating Cavvy 2-1 at Ellis Park

Mosgiel 5-1 over Tech

(Mosgiels Aidan Barbour-Ryan and Luke McKay have transferred to Selwyn FC)

Varsity 5-1 over Wanaka in Wanaka

And GI 2-0 against Queenstown in Queenstown

All teams have either 3 or 4 very young ones or are very young on average.

Estimate GI is about 20 or 21 on average. Mosgiel is probably just a fraction older.

Check Rab Smiths site www.rabotago.com for photos and commentary...(usually a few games) and ODT on Monday for Neville Watson's write up. Football South have Nevilles write up and some photos from Adam Binns

In the four team Donald Grey it is tight at the top with QP and Gore Wanderers. Stu Munro has reduced his work on FB, limited coverage from the deep south now.

Picks for this weekend..

Odds on Rab will be splitting his time between Sunnyvale and Memorial Park

Top 4

Mosgiel too good for Wanaka at home...

Green Island draw or win at home against Varsity...

Bottom 5

Queenstown to beat Roslyn at home

Dunedin Tech to draw with Northern (bold pick)..

Only got 50% of picks right...

GI 4-1 over Varsity.... 3-0 in the first 30 kind of killed the game as a competition. (FS streaming the game... good work)

Mosgiel 4-1 over Wanaka... Wanaka getting younger by the game..

The wrong ones..

Queenstown lost 2-1 at home to Roslyn, slightly surprised, though Roslyn are better than their results and Queenstown are like a box of Chocolates..

Tech were all an buried at the 80th minute and then get two goals in the 85th and 92nd to win 3-2. Northern trying hard!

Check out rabotago.co.nz and Football South for more info...
