Northern haven't won a league fixture in 33 games

31 losses in a row during that time

Last win was a 2-1 win over Mosgiel - 11/08/2018

Last point was 2-2 draw with Otago University - 25/08/2018

Must be some NZ record?

Picks for this weekend....

GI over Wanaka, probably a similar scoreline from last time they played

Varsity and Mosgiel at the Turf, probably game of the round, Mosgiel have lost three starters, Varsity are a good squad, just need to learn how to go forward a wee bit quicker.. hard one to pick but ill go for Mosgiel..

Northern vs Cavvy, should be Cavvy, have enough firepower to score a few.

Roslyn over Tech at Ellis Park.. should be a good crowd on the bank

2 out of 4

The right ones...

GI 5-3 over Wanaka

Cavvy too good for Northern 5-0

The wrong uns..

Varsity got up 2-1 on the turf against Mosgiel, was tight

Tech 1-0 over Roslyn at Ellis Park, another tight one..

This weekends picks...

Top 4

Mosgiel vs GI... the big game, wonder if FS stream will stream this game. Ill go out on a limb and say a tight tussle 2-2

Wanaka vs Varsity... Varsity for the win.

Bottom 5

Northern vs Queenstown... Queenstown to win, Northern is due a surprise at some stage...

Tech vs Cavvy... Cavvy to win at the Cally

Big couple of games coming up for GI, i think they might finally slip up this weekend & then will have to face Uni on the turf

Not sure FS 2.0, could be wrong, think that Mosgiel have lost some of the dominance they showed last season. Still think it will be a draw. Whatever happens it will be a good game!

Agree with you re the turf being a home ground advantage to Varsity, trouble with Varsity is that they take too many passes to move forward. GI exposed this in the two games they have played.

Top 4 Results

Mosgiel 0 v Green Island 4.... The Island wrap the title up after 11 games into a 14 game season. (picked a draw)..

Wanaka 1 v Otago University 0.... Another game where Varsity have the bulk of posession and lose. (picked that Varsity would win)

Take away the 20 goals Mosgiel scored against Northerns 2nds the table paints a clearer picture.. Think in the last three games GI has scored 4 against Varsity, 5 against Wanaka and 4 against Mosgiel.

Bottom 5

Dunedin Tech 3 v Caversham 5... Picked Cavvy to win

Northern 2 v Queenstown 3... Picked Queenstown to win, looks like Northern gave them a good game.

Must have been a reason why Rab would go and watch the Tech/Cavvy game rather than head to the main game at Memorial Park..

Well done GI, looks like Mosgiel are falling apart, any truth to the coach packing it in after the season?

Nice grenade Reem...

Mosgiel lost three starters in the season, two to Selwyn to try and keep them in the league and one to Petone for the same reason. The three probably are receiving payment and in Cody's case he is being flown to Wellington for games.

Coach for Mosgiel has a young family and if he is leaving it would be on very good terms. Done a good job of attracting fringe Southern United  players and molding a very competitive team, especially last year.

There are always coach changes... Northern, GI, Tech, RW? this year..

Luke Mckay hardly an influential player tbh & probably only started half the games this year. Other two definitely yes, i see Cody hasn't even played for Petone yet.

Hearing Cam is wanting to play without the coaching responsibilities which is fair enough.

Picks for this weekend

Top 4

Wanaka v Mosgiel... Mosgiel will get up 2-1, Wanaka have been really competitve at home but just think it is one season too soon for them to be top 2.

Varsity v GI... think it will be a 3-0 win to GI, Matt Milton, Matt Brazier and Eddie Wilkinson will have fun on the turf. Varsity will be strong in possession though this will be nullified by GI's defense. Should be a good game to watch!

Bottom Five

Caversham to draw with Roslyn

Queenstown to win over Tech

Great to have a decent paper... long may the ODT continue!!!!

Nice Article on GI's season

Picks for the weekend... never bet on them ;-)

Bottom 5 last round.

Cavvy to beat Queenstown at home... Cavvy to finish top of the Bottom 5,

Roslyn to beat Northern...

Final placings... Cavvy, Queenstown, Roslyn, Tech and Northern

Top 4

Mosgiel v Varsity.. A lot to play for, whoever wins will come second. Mosgiel at home i think will win.

Wanaka v GI.. Will GI get back on track, Wanaka is a long trip and small field. Think it will be a tight game, maybe GI will bounce back but could be a draw.

One more round to the top 4..

Here’s my select XI from the SPL, plenty of young players who might give Canty a good game. Very attack minded.

C. Neill   Findlay  T. O’Farrell   K. Ali

                           Cox

Football South

Sadly, the mighty Stephen Last will be leaving Football South in a couple of weeks.

'Lasty' has been an incredible Development Officer for the region. Amongst many things, driving a huge increase in community and advanced coach education. He's delivered courses to hundreds of coaches in his 4+ years in the region.

He's a handy player too - with over 70 appearances for Southern United in the ISPS Handa Premiership, he's one of the most experienced Southern players around.

Lasty is heading back to his native Ireland, with his final day for us on December 4th. We'll be looking to advertise his role soon, so keep an eye out.

In the meantime, I'm sure you'll all join us in thanking him, and wishing him well in his future endeavors.

Hey everyone I just discovered this forum, went around visiting most of the FS Premier League and seeing different matches last year after moving to Dunedin, but haven't really followed much or found the right places with more info to follow on the net.

Dunno who's really active right now but got a few questions:

- When does the season start?

- Do we know the league format and if so, what it is? I'm of the understanding that top two will play in the South Island league?

- Cavvy and Tech have obviously merged, are there any other mergers currently in the works?

March 20

Eight teams, home and away over 14 weeks, top three advance to an eight-team, one-round South Island league, where the top two will advance to the national championship phase, alongside four Northern League teams, three Central League teams, and a Wellington Phoenix reserve side.

None for this season at senior level as far as I'm aware, but Green Island, Mosgiel, and Roslyn Wakari are joining forces to field teams in federation-wide youth competitions.

Sure, do we know what ground South Coast United are going to mainly play at? Or will they rotate grounds that Cavvy and Tech currently use?

At first glance I thought it was Coastal Spirit!

surprised that they haven't used Dunedin (or even Otago) in the name, thought that would have been a given to attract sponsorship \ grants etc - I mean where is South City?

So from my understanding South Coast United is the working name of the partnership, but since Football South needs certain details such as club name at a certain deadline, South City Royals was decided upon with the accompanying badge.

Tech indicated on their Facebook page that the name, badge and colours were only confirmed for this season and not necessarily a long-term thing.

Hi all,
Just to let you know that some of these larger threads are causing some issues with the new site. So given the move to a new National League format, I'm going to close this one, and create a new Southern Premier League thread for the 2021 season. We'll also create a South Island Championship thread in the Handy Prem Category for that part of the national league. If there is need for a general FootballSouth thread for non-SPL chat feel free to create it. Cheers.
