No mention here of US residents being denied entry to the UK, or as a minimum having to quarantine in Blighty. I just thought that would currently be the case?

Cheers for that. Okay from above link, below is a copied current list of countries that if you arrive from (providing you don't transit through a non exempt Country), seems is no 14 day self isolation/quarantine requirement in the UK.

Don't see USA on that list. Of interest re possibility of an AWs verus England game. NZ, Australia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Italy, Norway, Poland, Sweden & Turkey are listed.

Unfortunately likes of USA, Belgium, Denmark, Israel, Netherlands, Portugal & Switzerland can't see on the exempt country list. To show how complex it can be Denmark was only recently removed from the list of exempt countries. Bugger

And then whilst Bell maybe able to arrive in the UK without having to quarantine, but when he returns to Norway he likely does.

Messy. A nasty headache for NZF staff, and on face of it hard to see the England game happening.

FYI - England beat Belgium 2-1 at Wembley in UEFA Nations League.

3 Lions next have Denmark in a few days, then supposedly AWs in Nov.

In other news of interest Mexico beat Netherlands 1-0 in Amsterdam few days ago, and play Algeria in neutral Den Haag in 2 days. Mexicans (presumably solely Euro based players) have been touted as a possible 2nd game, for the AWs in that November window

Was it the USA who were mooted then for the Nov window?

According to Soccerway Mexico currently don't have any games scheduled in that November window, plus they have pulled off playing these two October friendlies in Europe. Whilst Team USA are sitting idle this month.

Looks like Team USA have locked in Wales and Socceroos (at Craven Cottage) for friendlies in the November window now. To use Euro based players only.

So sadly no Tyler Boyd AWs matchup (if it was ever a chance) in near future.

https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2020/10/07/report-u...

Interesting that the US have arranged these friendlies in the UK. Maybe because it is the easiest Euro country to get players based in other Euro countries, in and out of at the moment. So possibly gives some hope that the England v AWs game will happen??

Socceroos as a 2nd game in London?? Please yes please.

That's not a surprise.

It would at least be something to have a quad tournament here, with Aussie and some SE Asian teams. If the Wallabies can get here to play rugby, there's a precedent. Use local and Australian based players, call it NZ 'A' if need be.

Give up on playing in Europe for now.

Give up on playing in Europe for now.

Every FIFA window from March next year right up until early 2022, the Socceroos and other AFC teams, will be trying to cram in all their various AFC World Cup qualifying games.

Losing these Euro games (Belgium & England), is sadly a big blow re AWs build up for intercontinental playoffs June 2022. Getting some quality friendlies between now and then as preparation ain't going to be easy.

A full strength AWs team has basically played 1 game together (Ireland) in the last 3 years. And who knows when they will next all meet up.

BBC News: NZ Will Not Travel to England

While excited by the prospect of both AW games, living here in the UK I always thought it would be a houdi act to pull off and sure enough...

Am so gutted though that neither happened.  Am sure a few fringe kiwis in Europe will be too as any chance they might of had to wear the Fern and be bolters has gone now.

Pity 3 Lions ripe for the picking, losing to the Danes 1-0 this morning. Maguire sent off early.

Sounds like having a lot of players based in Scandinavia (tough rules requiring quarantine when returning for UK) biggest problem re AWs, getting a 'competitive' side together.

Easier for Socceroos having a lot more first choice players based in the UK.

Wonder if there is a slim chance of some games in the March 2021 window for an Euro AWs selection, if quarantine rules in the EU are relaxed a bit by then. At the same a Handy Prem/A League AWs deals with likes of Cook Islands, American Samoa or whoever re first phase OFC WC qualifying.

Will be World Cup qualifying in Europe in that window. And I'm not sure that it'll be a 3-match window like it is for October and November, because they've had to cram in the last EURO qualifiers in those windows.

Think the better chance of Euro AWs picking up friendlies would be in June prior to EURO starting.

Legend

Yeah good point, the June window is effectively the longest one, and there could be a few Euro sides looking for a friendly or two.

But at this stage June 2021 is also scheduled for some OFC WC qualifying.

On 28 July 2020, the OFC announced that they had submitted a proposal to FIFA for the qualifiers in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.[2]

  • First round: The 11 OFC teams will be split into two groups based on their FIFA Ranking, and play single round-robin matches in March and June 2021 at centralized locations. The top two teams of each group advance to the second round.
  • Second round: The four teams will play knockout two-legged home-and-away matches, with the semi-finals in September 2021 and the final in October. The winner advances to the inter-confederation play-offs.

Though again I think with the OFC first round there is likely to be a few gimme games (Cooks etc) that a Central League selection would win, and the AWs only have to finish 2nd in their pool to make 2nd round OFC.

So if there is ever a time in their history when two AWs teams are playing at the same time in different parts of the world, it could be March or June next year. Quality games for first choice AWs (nearly all Euro/MLS based) are going to be scarce now in leadup to June 2022, so gotta grab any opportunity that comes along. Otherwise risk going into those intercontinental playoff games seriously seriously underdone, with a group of players, many of whom will be virtual strangers to each other.

Don’t worry, the Roos will loose to the Poms ;-)

Also the UK is quickly heading towards a full shutdown again. Football could be dead and buried in the UK before this game is played.

How long before professional clubs in England start to fold? I'm not sure I see some of the smaller clubs lasting for more than a year in this current climate.

I don't think so. I am working on the assumption that the "lower" clubs have less overheads, whereas the Top clubs with all their top paid players and facilities could be in more trouble than they want to see. I do note too that Non League teams are getting decent Crowds at their games as fans are getting fed up with the big clubs and their attitude towards fans. Stockport County have got a decent following again and a mate of mine is an ST holder at South Shields. he sent me a clip of their crowd that for such a lower League, looked quite good.

Like the Nix, probably more so, they are desperate for gate revenue.

Most teams from the bottom half of the Championship down are not owned by rich benefactors and don't get much TV money. So no fans = no club.

Not looking good unless the Premiership allows some of its riches to filter down.

Aussie has missed out on both it's proposed friendlies, time for NZF to propose an A-League Socceroos vs Aus/NZ All Whites match? Nix will probably be in Aussie by then, so would be easy enough to organise.

Idea certainly has merit. AWs first OFC qualifiers in March 2021 (if they happen) will almost certainly be an A League/Handy Prem AWs team.

Looks like Socceroos will play Kuwait & Nepal next March, and possibly be an A League Socceroos. So trying to play a NZ V Aus warm up type game somehow pre that March window, not silliest idea.

However I do remember someone running through a likely AWs A League squad, and it was a bit light in certain positions (like CBs). Would need a few guys from Handy Prem to fleece it out. Less I guess for just one game. And who knows Nix maybe about to sign a few extra Handy Prem dudes.

Yeah CB's would be a problem but it is the only way we will get an All Whites game in the near future.

Aussie based AWs: Jai Ingham, Andrew Durante, Mathew Ridenton & Jeremy Brockie
Aussie based u23s: Gianni Stensness, Aidan Munford, Emlyn Wellsmore, Oliver Duncan
Aussie based u20s: Keegan Jelacic

Nix AWs: Stefan Marinovic, Tim Payne, Alex Rufer, Louis Fenton
Nix u20s: Ben Waine
Nix: Oli Sail, Sam Sutton

NZ based AWs: Te Atawhai Hudson-Wihongi, Clayton Lewis, James McGarry, Logan Rogerson, Justin Gulley, Adam Mitchell, Tom Doyle, Cameron Howieson
NZ based u23s: Jack-Henry Sinclair, Trevor Zwetsloot

Probably Unavailable - ACL: Max Crocombe, Marco Rojas, Storm Roux, Dane Ingham, Kosta Barbarouses

Good summary of who would be available. Henry Cameron still at TW? Another ex AW.

But if ACL made likes of Rojas, Kosta & Roux unavailable, becomes a really questionable fixture from an AWs perspective, and would no doubt rule out a number of A League Socceroos for Arnie as well.

Come Feb/March next year, why not squeeze 3 A League rounds into 2 weeks (same with Handy Prem), with a round of mid week fixtures, to create a longer March international window, and play a AWs v Socceroos game just before each country's OFC & AFC March 2021 qualifiers.

Seems a more logical possible date slot, without ACL games, without interfering with A League club build ups towards Dec 27th, and may just be a chance that come Feb/March next year domestic Kiwis (eg Handy Prem players) can travel to certain Australian states and return to NZ without having to go into 2 weeks MI.

So in many ways trying to squeeze in a NZ v Aus fixture Feb/March next year makes more sense.

Not in NZ atm according to @NZPhotomac.

ACL games start on the 19th November, so could always play at the very start of the window to get access to those players or even before the window (if FIFA allows that) cuz none of the players have club commitments atm.

I'm sure everyone just wants to see some sort of AWs team play. Doubly better if against the big brother, even if watered down A League selections.

However another obstacle is the AWs coaching staff (except Rory Falloon?) are mostly based in NZ. Big ask for them to go to Oz for what, is likely 3-4 days max contact time with the players, plus 1 game - then return to NZ for 2 weeks hotel MI.

Largish sacrifice for seemingly not great reward, esp given some of the players they would be working with, may hardly be used again beyond the March 2021 window - post which the AWs should be getting closer to full strength with each new window.

Of course there is an ex NZF coaching employee now at Melbourne City. Maybe he could fill Hay's shoes for a one off game in Oz!

Argyle cut Rory free ages ago, more chance of seeing him doing laps of a football ground in his ice-cream truck then doing laps with the players inside.

While a Rory fan, I'm not sure the AWs need a motivator who can't coach.

While the bridge is well and truly burnt Des would have been the ideal choice to replace him as he is a good coach and clearly a great motivator.

Out of interest USA drew 0-0 with Wales in Cardiff.

A European based USA side (with a few guys from MLS teams not in the playoffs) but no Tyler Boyd.

After Wales, the US play Panama in Austria. Mexico also playing Korea and Japan in Austrian friendlies.

Meanwhile England beat Republic of Ireland 3-0 (the Irish replacing AWs as opponents for the 3 Lions). Couple of Chris Wood's Burnley team mates (Long & Brady) came off the bench for the Irish plus ex team mate Hendrick started. Whilst Nick Pope played the first half in goal for England.
