Not sure if there is already a fred on this, so I thought I would start.  Anyone here support any Dutchie teams?  I used to follow the results of Go Ahead Eagles, mainly because they have a slightly strange name.

I am going to Ajax vs Feyenoord on Sunday at the Amsterdam Arena, and very much looking forward to it.

I went to an Utrecht Europa League qualifier against FC Luzern last summer.

The home fans' main stand is amazing, it has an epic bar inside the stand along with all the deep fried Dutch goodness you could desire, plus a chavvy Euro rave complete with DJ. All inside the stand.

My Opa played professionally (or as 'professional' as it was in those days) for Sportsclub Enschede in the top flight of Dutch football before he and my Oma migrated here back in the '40s/'50s. They merged with Enschedese Boys to become FC Twente who now play in the Eredivisie so I support them as much as I can. He's just about 90 and still get's up to watch them and Holland play whenever he can as well.

Before he moved here an English guy he worked with in Holland told him there was no football in New Zealand so he didn't bother to pack his boots. A while after he got here, living in Carterton, he was asked if he plays football, which (in his words) he replied "I play a little bit", and he was invited to play for Masterton (I think) so he had to get his boots sent by boat from Holland. He ended up playing National League for years and became very well known for his football talent in his hometown. Even so, he was never as serious about football as he was back home. Back in those days it was frowned upon to turn down a chance to move with your family from Holland for greener pastures even if you were giving up a top level football career. It was much more important to settle, have a family and establish a 'real career'.

My Opa didn't bring his boots over?  That was bit short-sighted of him

AZ Alkmaar roof collapses in high winds

Incredible scene, but even so, it is extremely fortunate that the ground was empty. To say it could have ended in complete catastrophe, well, that would be a massive understatement.

AZ kicked off their season at home less than a week ago...

Emmen's had some sick recruitment, not too many big names coming into the league, think it'll be an Ajax sweep again but I'm hoping the best for my boy Ryan

That's fine by me! Getting a real sense Perr Schuurs and Jurgen Ekkelenkamp are going to have big seasons this year. The Ajax talent pool is farken endless

I don't really have knowledge about the scene apart from Ajax and probably Feyenoord but it seems that the league is fun. However, with the dominance of Ajax it might be boring. However, I do love to see the wonderkids develop into great players in some of the teams here. Will try and watch this especially with the prospects on almost every team in the league.
