"We owe the world an apology, a performance like that was a disgrace," he said.

"Politics, that's what I put it down to. There are too many people in this club with hidden agendas.

"That's the problem. That 4-0 result tonight was politics, nothing else. Whether you are involved directly or indirectly you have an effect. Because of a pissant town, this club will never win anything until you get rid of that crap.

"I couldn't give a damn about my future. This club will never win anything until it gets rid of it (political infighting)."

Must be frustrating to be an Adelaide fan with this going on. And for a while now.

Vidmar was right, always has been.
He shouldn't have apologised for his comments. Its good he spoke out.

Also good that Reid has spoken out about it. I think the fans deserved to know.
Dodd was a big loss for Adelaide.

When The Advertiser is leading with the headline, "Coolen set to be sacked" then that's probably a pretty clear indicator.

Coolen not sacked - demoted to Yoof Coach in the hope (presumably) that he'll walk so they don't have to pay out the 4yr contract they just gave him.

Not a good look; either for RADelaide or the league. Surely they could have negotiated to pay him out a year or something. It was their choice, their fail.

Will make other o/seas coaches think twice (maybe even three times?) about heading down this way.

Luciano gets lucky

"ADELAIDE United will play the remaining A-League season under a new coach - former coach John Kosmina.

Reds chairman Greg Griffin made the announcement today at Hindmarsh Stadium, with John Kosmina by his side.

He will start immediately as coach Rini Coolen was demoted to the club's youth development manager.

Kosmina said his first task was to meet and greet each player tomorrow morning before mapping out a plan to put the Reds' season back on track.

"The players are playing without smiles on their faces,'' he said.

"What I saw on Friday night in the three-nil loss for me after being a member of the club in 2003, was one of the saddest moments.''

Kosmina's support staff including assistant coach Luciano Trani will remain while football director Michael Petrillo - a target of Kosmina's Sunday Mail columns of late - will also keep his job.

Adelaide United FC acknowledges Marcos Flores’ right to sign with Melbourne Victory but refutes any assertion or allegation that the club did not act reasonably or commercially to secure his services within the extremely restricted time frame between the date of the termination of his Chinese contract and today.

To the contrary for reasons set out below, Adelaide United FC could not have done any more than it did. Had Flores given the club more time to make space within the salary cap, a deal may have been possible. That however did not occur as Flores decided to join Melbourne Victory.

The club’s negotiations and record of contact with Flores were as follows:

  • June 2011 A contract offer to Flores of $1million for 3 years was rejected. Flores demanded to be released to China citing Melbourne Victory was an option in the January transfer window if he was not released.
  • April 2012 Whilst still under contract in China, Flores’ agents put a proposal to Adelaide United for a $575k package per year to return to Adelaide. The club declined the deal.
  • May 2012 Adelaide United made its highest ever offer for a player or coach for Flores to return to Adelaide. This was rejected by Flores’ agents.
  • June 2012 Flores’ agents put another proposal to Adelaide which was beyond the club’s means.

Adelaide United FC had 22 contracted players for 2012/13 during the period of negotiation with little room in the salary cap, making it virtually impossible to act in the recruiting port folio. At the same time Flores’ agents were negotiating with other Hyundai A-League clubs which was their right. Importantly Adelaide United FC is proud of the squad list in its achievements during the current successful AFC Champions League campaign.

The two overriding factors in the Flores signing are a) Adelaide United could not afford his demands, and b) Melbourne Victory, a club with a turnover of $13million, has more resources than Adelaide United with a turnover of $6million and hence can outbid this club. It has happened to South Australia in other sporting codes and now it has happened here.

ADELAIDE United's star players Dario Vidosic and Cassio have labelled comments made by Reds chief executive Glenn Elliott as disappointing and inaccurate.

Elliott told The Advertiser yesterday Vidosic and Serginho van Dijk "will not be released to another A-League club" while Cassio was named as "often injured" last season.

Elliott also said any senior players not performing to standard could be relegated to the Baby Reds youth team.

Adelaide really doesn't seem a happy place atm. They are doing well in the ACL, but it still is the same squad that came 9th, and they have lost players since then. I wonder if they are having money issues.

Also the Luc Trani issue could have alienated some of the players, he was well respected amoung the players here so I'm sure the Radelaide players would have respected him the same way.

Not sure on SVD, but Vidosic story is a beat up. He says he is happy and wants to stay and the CEO says he will not be released to another HAL club - 'controversial'. Reckon it's just the media putting forward crap or twisting the words of the CEO hoping for a negative comment so they can get a story.

Usucar is leaving because he isn't guaranteed a spot in the side.

I can only think that Adelaide are open to decent $ transfers of players as they look to reduce deficits, though not neccesarily putting players in the shop window. Players don't have to accept transfers.

Totally reminds me of this story: http://espnfc.com/en/news/1116920/mesut-ozil-rallies-sami-khedira.html Total beat up.

Adelaide United has been left red-faced, with the club admitting it offered a trial to a player who does not exist.

The Reds announced on Wednesday two overseas players had been offered a trial following an extensive search to locate new recruits, one of which was supposed to be former United States youth international Dexter Rosales.

Portuguese striker Fabio Ferreira, formerly of Chelsea, was the other player in question.

"Their pedigree is good and we've got to cast the net far and wide, so they'll come here on trial and we'll have a look at them," Adelaide United coach John Kosmina said in a statement.

Reds football director Michael Petrillo confirmed Rosales was penciled in to train with the A-League club.

"Rosales has been recommended to us," he said. "He's paying his own way here."

However, Adelaide acknowledged on Monday that Rosales had not arrived and the club had been fooled by an elaborate hoax.

"It has been a strange few days with all the speculation around this mystery man - it doesn't look great from our end," a Reds media spokesman told Sportal. "We're not the first club to be given a false lead with a supposed trialist, but other clubs probably just don't promote it to the world like we did."

With Adelaide seemingly one of several clubs to fall victim to the non-existent Rosales, credit must be given to the perpetrators of the elaborate hoax.

'Rosales' caught the eye of Adelaide's scouts with an impressive resume, which listed Dutch champion Ajax and Spanish heavyweight Valencia as former clubs.

The 25-year-old supposedly enjoyed stints with Argentine giant River Plate and Colombian side Club Atletico Junior at youth level, while representing the United States at Under-17, Under-20 and Under-23 level.

However, Rosales' high-profile credentials have no credible sources to verify their legitimacy.

A quick glance at a since-deleted Wikipedia page on Rosales revealed several flaws.

The website stated Rosales was born on July 19, 1987, yet according to several other sources the Miami-born forward also enjoys a birthday on July 7 and July 9.

Image searches of Rosales caused further confusion, with former Ajax and Argentina international Mauro Rosales appearing under the phantom player's name.

Ajax's media department added to the doubts over Rosales' career on Friday by confirming he never played for nor was registered with the Eredivisie side.

"Dexter Rosales was never a contracted player here at Ajax and never was on trial," an Ajax media official said. "I checked Google and saw that there was a [picture] card with the name Dexter Rosales, but that picture of the player in the Ajax kit was Mauro Rosales.

"Mauro was a player from Argentina who was at the club until 2006, but the card and text is not 'Ajax official'. We do not know if Dexter Rosales does or does not exist, but we can confirm that he never was at Ajax."

Valencia also denied the player ever graced the Estadio Mestalla pitch.

"He was not a player of Valencia CF," a press official said.

River Plate added confirmation to the rapid unraveling of Rosales' non-existent career.

"River Plate does not have any registration that says Mr. Rosales was a former player," a media officer said.

Club Atletico, along with US Soccer's governing body and Rosales' supposed high school, did not respond to emails sent last week, while his 'agent' Dimitri Kascovic could not be reached for comment.

Judging by the interview on 442, he's egomaniacal enough to think that if he only got a trial he'd tear up the A-League, despite being a fat DJ with a criminal record. (Perhaps he saw Carlos Hernandez in action.)
