Did anyone see the Racing Santander v Real Madrid game. I thought it was hilarious. Santander winner through 2 late penalties. The defending from Madrid was aweful and there was a rugby tackle by Cannavaro which was easily a penalty in either rugby or football cause he didnt have the ball. 2 sent off for madrid onegiven to a player who had come on for about 2 minutes before getting it.

Actually its usually pretty good.  Good teams to watch are Real Zaragoza, Sevilla and Osasuna.

Barca usually win but are getting to be a bit of a Chelsea (eg play poorly then a superstar scores an unlikely spec goal to win).

Its also great watching Athletico failing to reach potential season after season with Torres especially never quite justfying his superstar tag.

What is poor is that the bottom teams give up against the top sides too easily - more fight in Sheffield Utd and Watford than in those guys.

Yeah - I think it is pretty good and I watch it a fair bit.

Sevilla are my pick of the teams to watch - they have some great players. I would love to see Danny Alves ply his trade in the Premiership.

Zaragoza is pretty much made up of lots of guys who never quite made it at the bigger clubs (Aimar et al) but have gelled into a very good side - similar to the Villarreal of 2006.

Certainly much better than the Serie A!

COmpletely disagree.  If ESPN could sort out the picture and the commentary then it would be fantastic.  The depth in the league is far better, the technical ability of the players in general is very high and although Madrid and Barcelona have been strong recently there is plenty of competition for the title.  Plus some ridiculiusly good goals...

The picture quality does spoil it for me I'm afraid.

Tommy is unrivalled as the world's worst commentator and I'm not sure why the pictures are so awful - we can get perfectly good pictures of the Premier League but route them through America and you don't get to see much. But I enjoy watching it as a chnage from the Premiership, and Champions League is briiliant aaprt from same issues of commentary and picture quality.

Would be good if the Chelsea v Liverpool matches could take an English feed.

Sorry, meant to say better than the Premier League (which I assume most are comparing La Liga to)

Recently ESPN seem to have a better feed from the Champions League games, but they can definitely get a proper picture sometimes.   Recently in an FA Cup game which was being broadcast on both Sky Sport 1 and ESPN (can't remember which, musn't have been a good one) the Sky Sports 1 version clicked over to the English commentary, but not the ESPN.  Odd.  Also, for about 20 minutes in the first half of the Arsenal Liverpool FA Cup game the picture clicked over the a crisp version of premier league quality.  Then after half time it was back to the grainy version.

Anyone able to shed any light at all on this?

Have to disagree. La Liga is a top class competition but it is not the best in the world. There are quality players in La Liga. However, some things that are frustrating about La Liga is the poor picture quality and how many (not all, but many) of the players dive and fake injuries to get free kicks.loyalgunner2007-06-19 16:24:15

Nah La Liga is f**king bollocks the football is boring as f**k nothing like the EPL which is fast and exciting and the atmosphere is sh*t the fans have no f**king idea i mean you may aswell place the two teams on the moon and you'd get more atmposhere!!! If i had a choice between Arsenal v Man Yoo or even Fulham v Sheffield instead of Real v Barca or two rubbish La Liga sides i know who i'd choose every time.

Also Serie A is sh*t.

We saw perfectly well that Sevilla are a good team when they played Spurs.  I think all the top leagues have merit and Buffon is being to dismissive.  Osasuna versus Fulham would be an Osasuna win.

The league that has fallen away in recent times is the Bundesligia.  Serie A lacks some depth, but EPL and the Spanish Primera are good right through(even if the bottom teams sometimes give up too easily against the top sides).

did anyone see the barca vs getafe game, i don't really like la liga but this messi goal was awesome, it was just like Maradona's one against england , carbon copy almost. Buffon is being a bit over the top with his criticism of la liga, i know epl is 10 times better but would you rather watch nothing or la liga?

I'd rather watch La Liga than nothing of course adam!!! But i'd actually rather watch the A-League than La Liga and that says something!!!

Also Messi's goal was world class but let's not build this guy up yet he may end up a flop.

Tommy Smyth with a Y is cool though

I don't believe anyone would think this unless they were totally insane or on a wind up.

Here is some of the feedback he has had.

The UEFA Cup final   Sevilla versus Espanyol shows the League is strong as I said before.

I expect Sevilla to win.

Buffon: LOL you are pretty stupid. :)

La Liga is awesome, its going to be a real nailbiter to the finish now, with four games to go and only 1 point separating Barca and Madrid.

Hala Madrid!

La Liga is awesome, the atmosphere is amazing! The competition at the top is really tense & exciting, unlike the EPL this season.

I never said that the matches aren't exciting, I was saying that the title race has been more exciting in La Liga & will probably go to the very last match of the season.

The only reason why its close because whenever a team is looking good to win it they roll of 2 or 3 bad games and let the others back in.

Some people are forgetting that there are very good teams and excellent players at a wider number of clubs than just the title chasers.  The "slip ups" are therefore more likely.  Title chasers need to beat teams that put internationals from around the world on the park.  Villa Real have had a poorer season but their lineup is no pushover - look at Osasuna,Athletic Madrid, even Espanyol.  Team like Real Madrid and Barca have to play well to beat them.

Take yesterdays game between Real Zaragoza and Athletic Bilboa  - a great hat trick from the defeated team for a 4-3 - hardly a pushover for a well performing side like Zaragoza.

Real Madrid where great this weekend.  3-1 against a determined Deportivo.  Beckham very good.   Still not convinced that Cannavaro and Roberto Carlos should still be there though.

What a set of results this weekend!  Barca droping two points at home in a draw with city rivals Espanyol, then Real Madrid saving a point at the death away at Zaragoza.  The second Zaragoza goal was something special from Aimar and Diego Milito.  Sevilla bow out of title race with 0-0 away at Mallorca.

Next week Real just have to match or better Barcas result to take the league.

Mate, for a guy whose nickname is Buffon, you have some strange opinions about european football.  Personally, I think that the EPL is dull as muck.  Too many long balls, players who play to avoid doing something bad, rather than creating something good, and fans who are convinced that the English are the only people who really "understand football".

The influx of massive stacks of cash to the EPL only makes it bearable to watch.  Serie A is a little to defensive minded for me, but its still better than a lot of the hack-and-chase matches of the EPL.

With Athletico being so erratic Villareal must be the best chance now.  Zaragoza have qualified I believe.

The end results were as they should be.  Pleased to see Villareal and Zaragoza qualify for UEFA Cup.

Barca and Real both tried hard to lose the title over recent weeks - actually finished in a tie although Real win under the rules.

Sad to see Real Sociedad relegated; hopefully they can come back next year.  Replaced by one of my teams (ones I support in Real Vallodollid)

I'm still pretty crushed after Barca came so close.  Still, if I was a neutral that would have been a fantastic end to the season.

I can't wait for next year.  I'm sure that Gio Dos Santos and maybe Bojan Krkric will get some gametime in the first team, and some fresh blood (not to mention outrageous talent) should see them kicking some a$$ next season.

The likely changes to the top teams line ups certainly adds a lot of interest.  I predict that the day of the superstar is over in La Liga.  I believe that most clubs will seek to build robust squads that can perform consistently through a long season rather than headline catching signings.  There are a lot of good young players around who could be given a chance next year.

Will Zaragoza be able to hang on to the Millito brothers?  Will David Silva be on the move? Are there bargains available from Celta going down?

Villlan I usually agree with your comments but I cant see where this one comes from!  Deportivo have been struggling and I cant see the signings that would enable this!!
