Being at the game (sober as dry stadium 🤬) is one of the best footballing experiences I've ever had.

The boys played so well and to see all the Costa Rican fans genuinely scared of losing to us was great.  Every time we looked up from behind Navas and saw the stats that showed we were dominating, sent shivers down my spine.  Fudging VAR.

Anyways, I wasn't a Hay fan and thought him getting the gig was a stitch up.  The only decent fluid football we had played in my 30 years of watching the team was when Emblen coached. I thought he should have got the gig and certainly not the two other blokes we've seen.  After watching the games in Spain and in Qatar and meeting the players, coaching/support staff and families I'm now in the Hay camp.  He showed glimpses in Japan with the Olympics and it really shone Qatar.

The only bugbear I have is that he keeps picking Pijnaker. When his name was announced as starting, I thought that was the wrong call and watching that goal go in only reinforced that decision. It should have been Boxall. I rate Pijnaker but don't think he's a starter in a game like this.

I ran into the team the day after in their hotel (a real downer buzz/gutted feeling could be felt) and also met Roger Gray. It was great to see old AW captains part of the AW setup.  He's still a mountain of a man.

Gutted we lost but I'm happy for Hay to stay on if we keep playing like that.
