Maybe Milne was released because Rufer gave the club a list of players that should be in Rangers' first team.

I kid.

That's a bit harsh. He is a good coach but, like Kevin Fallon, he needs a man manager to help him. Very much like Grant Turner as well. They have a lot to offer but need someone like Adshead to guide the knowledge and to manage the players. Let Turner, Fallon and Rufer coach and get Adshead, Herbert (but is good at both) etc to manage.

Nice idea, but Fallon and Rufer don't want to be 2IC to anyone...so that makes life a bit tricky...

Lots of good players get released for various reasons, young and old.

Last year Milne was approached by a couple other SPL clubs but opted for Rangers, so clearly there is talent there. Rangers also are in the crap financially and (i may be wrong) the SPL doesn't have a reserve league any more which makes it hard to keep young players when you can't give them any competative football.

Wynton is a fool at times, no doubtig that, but he is a valuable resource to use. If for example NZF youth acadamy's were linked to Wynrs (they have the same goal and could do profit sharing) i am sure more NZ's would be trialled and get contracts.

You want to shut him up, get him involved, that way anything negative he says will be about himself... and he'd never do that.

Wynton is well-meaning but a bit unrealistic sometimes:
e.g.This goalie Wynton recommended to Ricki and thinks he should be in WC squad, Milosevic or whatever his name is, is only 18 and has only played about  a dozen games for the SECOND TEAM at German Third Division Wiesbaden filling in for an older injured goalie - hardly enough experience for the World Cup.
I back Ricki going with older local keepers he knows. Keepers mostly get better with age.
Wynton's a youth coach so good on him for advocating young players- but the AWs will need experienced players mostly in SA and Clapham (23), Smith (20) Reid (21) are young but quite experienced (age group internationals and/or pros).

There were reports with a Wynton interview on both the 6pm News tonight on TV:
Will probably be repeated on TVNZ 7 News repeat between 8-9pm tonight  (Sky Ch. 97; Freeview 7)
The TV 3 report is way better- may be repeated on Sky News later (if they still have the TV 3 news repeat?)

Good story on TV3 about the Rongotai academy. Most interesting part was the revelation that Sam Morgan was cofunding the academy. I had heard rumours that Sam was into football. He would be a good bloke to have supporting football.

Other stat from the story. Junior football team numbers had gone from 290 to 390 in just a few short years.....they are calling it the Phoenix effect!!!

Can't help but think that in a decade or so we are going to have a heap of talented players coming through the ranks. There must be lots of potential Chris Woods and Winston Reids out there.

And his mum and dad also did a lap of RoF on their motorsickles at one match last season.

Have to disagree re all the talented players coming through. You see egg ball is in our DNA y'know. It's true - mate of mine at the pub told me so. And Mayor Lols and the great sage Eric Young.

common every rugby fan, is just someone who hasn't discovered the delights of football yet. i used to be one of those idiots we all hate, diss the 'soccer' fans, call them losers, among lots of other things, then i discovered football, how things have changed.

i apologies for my past discrepancies
i do still play rugby tho, just play football aswell

I know Wynton-baiting is a pretty popular sport but i have to say I really admired the way he went nuts and started jumping around to rev up the crowd at the Bahrain game - it really lifted the response - a bit like Daniel sometimes does at Phoenix games. Good on him, it helped create a fantastic vibe. Football in NZ needs personalities and passion and you can't say Rufer lacks that. I'd rather have a bit more of that than more of the deadpan neutral stuff we get from people in most sports codes.

And I heard somewhere recently that the German coach of the day said that if Rufer had been German he'd have been in their team. Just to add to that, I was talking to an older German guy I know the other day and once he got onto talking about Wynton Rufer you couldn't shut him up about how much they rated him.

If he can use his background and passion to create more for football with the likes of Sam Morgan etc then all power to him

Has anyone listened to Wynton's radio show on Sunday on the 711am frequency on Sundays? Is it any good?

Yeh I have a Swiss friend who doesn't really follow football (i.e. not even in Germany) and she knew a fair bit about him...so made a big impression there...

So Wynton signs his emails off as "Oceania Player of the Century" which I thought was quite funny. But what's even better is that he quite clearly types it each time, it's not even an embedded signature haha.

Wynton is now masterminding the future of football at the International Football Advisory Board deciding the "Laws of the Game" (along with Aussie-born NZ resident Mark Hester, OFC Head of Refereeing):

http://www.oceaniafootball.com/ofc/News/ViewArticl..

Thursday, April 30, 2015

The two panels set up to advise The International Football Association Board (IFAB) on potential changes to the Laws of the Game have met in London this week.

The Football Advisory Panel and the Technical Advisory Panel, with representatives from Oceania sitting on both, met at the Sofitel Hotel London Heathrow for meetings on Monday and Tuesday to discuss a variety of topics, including proposals to amend Law 3 to allow a fourth substitution and the potential use of video replays to support match official

These items, as well as other matters such as handling the ball, the use of “sin bins”, the interpretation of the offside law and the use of electronic performance and tracking systems had been referred to the panels following the recent annual general meeting (AGM) of The IFAB in Northern Ireland on 28 February 2015.

Opinions varied within the panels as well as between the panels. For instance, the Football Advisory Panel looked at matters more from the players’ and teams’ perspectives while the Technical Advisory Panel assessed the technical details and possible issues in terms of the impact that the implementation of any changes would have for the referees.

The objective of the panels is to support The IFAB with greater expertise before decisions on the Laws of the Game are passed. Having already met for the first time in Belfast in November 2014, the panels consist of stakeholders from across the world of football, including former players, coaches and referees, as well as confederation, association and league representatives and FIFPro (see full list below).

This week’s panel meetings were chaired by the Chief Executive of the FA of Wales, Jonathan Ford, since The IFAB’s next AGM will be held in Cardiff, Wales, on 4-6 March 2016. The AGM takes place in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in strict rotation, as well as locations decided by FIFA in years when the FIFA World Cup™ is held.

The panels will meet again in October before their feedback is presented to The IFAB later this year during their annual business meeting – a working meeting during which topics are discussed and can be put forward to the AGM. Amendments to the Laws of the Game can only be made during the AGM, with the decisions of the board binding on confederations and member associations.

Football Advisory Panel
Anthony Baffoe (Ghana), Gijs de Jong (Netherlands, KNVB), Shaka Hislop (Trinidad & Tobago), Christian Karembeu (New Caledonia), Ioan Lupescu (Romania), Hidetoshi Nakata (Japan), Wynton Rufer (New Zealand), Richard Jobson (England, FIFPro), Andreas Rettig (Germany, DFL)

Technical Advisory Panel
Neale Barry (The FA), Jean-Paul Brigger (FIFA), Massimo Busacca (FIFA), William Campbell (Irish FA), Lim Kee Chong (Mauritius), Pierluigi Collina (UEFA Head of Refereeing), Sonia Denoncourt (CONCACAF Head of Refereeing), David Elleray (England), Ray Ellingham (FA of Wales), John Fleming (Scottish FA), Mark Hester (OFC Head of Refereeing), Jorge Larrionda (Uruguay, FIFA Referees Committee), Yoshimi Ogawa (AFC Head of Refereeing), Manoel Serapião Filho (Brazil)

I appreciate that Wynton is not the brightest person and he is into God but we should regardless be proud to honour him as our greatest ever player.

Colin Meads is seen by many as  Rugby's  equivalent and he also is not the most knowledgeable  but Rugby people honour him as a true legend..

That would point more to the blind stupidity of rugby fans than anything else.
