Will the league post squads like they did last year?

Notable transfers I have, mainly internally within Canterbury, are:

Cashmere Technical:
- Sam Richards
- Lachie McIsaac

Christchurch United:
- Daniel MacLennan
- Jonty Roubos
- Sanni Issa
- Blake Weston
- Paul Ifill (Registered)
- Jordan Spain
- Joel Petersen
- Sam Petersen
+ various more out of towners

Coastal Spirit:
- Seth Simpson
- Michael Geologo

Ferrymead Bays:
- Jamie Le Comte
- Erik Panzer
- Michael White

Nomads United:
- Henry Finnis
- Kenny Willox

Selwyn United:
- Aidan Barbour-Ryan
- Luke Jerkovic

I am sure to be missing a few, but it does feel like there is less transfers this year (barring Christchurch United's overhaul)?

New Zealand Football can confirm that this weekend’s Match Week 1 Southern League fixture between Selwyn United and Nomads United has been postponed due to an outbreak of COVID-19 in the Selwyn United squad. The postponement was requested by Selwyn United and approved by New Zealand Football.

Joel Peterson has been at ChCh United for several season now, injury prevented Joel from getting any game time last season. United have also signed keeper, Scott Morris, formally at Wairarapa United, with Mika Rabuka also moving across town from Coastal.

So sounds like some Canty football folk, no doubt who are not big fans of ChCh Utd, have concluded via some rumours/Chinese whispers that Meyn has had his assets frozen by NZ Govt?? Maybe same sort of folks, who would struggle to find Ukraine on a map. Then wonder why Meyn can't be bothered giving his views on the complicated Ukraine/Russia situation - something 99% of Kiwis won't fully understand - given many folks ain't big on actual fact checking.

Maybe ChCh Utd players & staff are not getting paid, but as mentioned above by Steptoe, that's highly likely more related to Meyn having problems with SWIFT system effectively suspended for Russian banks. A very different thing.

And what is the procedure for NZ Govt freezing someone's assets in NZ? Does anyone know? Is it made public? What NZ agency does the investigating? SFO? How do you decide which rich Russians are friends of Putin, and who ain't? Good luck with that.

Doesn't seem the Russian billionaire in Northland has yet been added to the the government's new Russian travel ban list (as at 9th March). He seems a bigger target than Meyn, given protesters demonstrating near his home etc??
https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/462962/neighbours-divided-over-russian-oligarch-s-lodge-in-northland

Doesn't seem like he's had his assets frozen, so why Meyn?

I'll bite, this is what the forum is for right?

I'm not a fan of Chch Utd, but I'm certainly able to locate the Ukraine, and am happy to say what a sh!tshow it is over there right now. You (and Slava) can run others down and say 99% of us don't understand it, but it's pretty obvious one country has invaded another and is actively killing thousands of people and destroying their property. How anyone can say that's ok (or say "you won't understand") is beyond me. And yes I know the same thing has happened (or is happening) in Afghanistan/Iraq/Palestine etc but that doesn't make what is happening in Ukraine any better. But that's not why I don't like Chch Utd.

Sure it's great he has set up a wicked resource at Yaldhurst, but don't forget it's $2500 per season for a early teen to play in their academy. Multiply that by a whole team, and a whole bunch of teams that's a good nudge.  This ain't a local football club. Some might say that's all fine and dandy, and that's all good too.

For the last few years, Chch Utd have simply bought their first team and coach from elsewhere. The biggest coup was a few years back poaching almost all of Ferrymead Bays, including the coach. They didn't work out too well for them, I don't think anyone is still there.

This year they have bought a massive coach, a rival's head coach as his assistant, a few players from other clubs and a number of players from out of town. Doesn't really link that well with their academy programme does it? I've also heard their game DAY cost for the squad is (was) $8000. They also pinched Mainland's operations manager as their general manager but that didn't last long either.

So for all these reasons, I'm more than happy that this could all fall flat on its face because of the disgraceful actions the parent country, and the sh!thouse goings on at the club. What's Russian for Karma?

Disclaimer: also aware they could come out and thump my club this weekend, if that happens, a "take that" type comment on Monday doesn't count. :-) Happy to discuss, that's what makes this thread great!

Yeah it's been disappointing how much of a lack of promotion there's been. I was expecting it to begin this week but it just hasn't.

Hey Vim
I'll bite to this one. I'm assuming that's what people are after. I would have replied quicker, but it took me a while to go through and count the number of people we currently have out with COVID.
On Tuesday it was 12 players + 3 coaches (including me). Last night we had 8 players and 2 coaches out, so getting better.
As of 1pm today, we have 6 players out of our 16 player squad with COVID. I think 1 of the coaches is still out too.
New Zealand football were all OK with it too.
All going to plan we should see you next weekend. I don't think we have too many players left to get it.

Watched the united vs coastal game yesterday. Coastal will be disappointed to leave with nothing. They battled hard and deserved a draw.
United looked like a team not settled and possibly playing for themselves. Disappointing as a supporter.
Will be interesting to see how united go in next couple of weeks.
As for the group of coastal supporters (namely a couple that have followed for a few seasons now) not cool, actually a disgrace.

Finally, have to agree with feverish, uniforms were to close. Coastal should have worn their black kit

Fantastic game of football, really entertaining. Yes we are gutted not getting anything, but that's football for you.

Not sure why we wore our away (did we have to cos we were away?) kit either, way too much blue.

Great having football back, going to be an interesting season.

Yes was a great game first up, on the chances created United probably deserved to just come out on top but Coastal camp would a rightly disappointed to walk away from the game without a point after never giving up on the game.

Lee Padmore (Director of Football at Mainland Football): "No worries mate, consider it done."

Vim raises a wider issue here. Surely it is weak governance/management on the part of Mainland Football to allow an employee to be placed in a position where there is a perceived conflict of interest? I am absolutely not questioning Lee Padmore's integrity here, it's bad policy that permits Mainland's DoF to also hold concurrently the head coach role for a Southern League club. It just should not happen.

Southern League is part of National   League run by NZF. Not Premier League run by MF. Can’t draw nor find meme  for that, so typed slowly. Not sure if that helps.

What makes this different from when Keith Braithwaite had to stop coaching Tech because he was Canterbury United head coach? A conflict of interest I believe was the reasoning so unsure what has changed now.

Other than one overrated individual running the show and wanting to do what he wants

Wait, wait. You're telling me Mainland Football has nothing to do with anything with the Southern League? Seems pretty far-fetched.

The difference is, Lee was brought in to do a job that was taken away from him with him not having any control of the situation. There is now no Dragons team any more so cannot bring players to one club on the premise of being selected for Canterbury.

He has been put down to a part time contract which has been communicated to clubs because of CU being no more.

If you look through the history of YF over the time he has been here (almost 10 years now as I joined around the same time) and the abuse he has had, considering the value he has added to the city on a football point of view, it’s crazy.

Ask the players and staff that have worked with/under him and see what they say, that is the only truth.
I'm just one of those people who have worked with him, so don't just take my word for it. In a world of whoever shouts the loudest is telling the truth, what you get from Lee is the same message all the time. It goes a long way

Lee Padmore (Head Coach of Selwyn): "Hey Mainland Football, we gotta few players out with Covid and injuries, any chance we can get this game postponed?"

Lee Padmore (Director of Football at Mainland Football): "No worries mate, consider it done."

So this aged well Vim...... :D

Huh? This makes the gag even better!

How can a head coach of a Premier League club be involved in anything to do with the Premier League?

Next time I'll draw stick figures or a meme to explain it a little better.
