I'm around a '78 model Gooner too... when my Dad's mate brought me a kit back from a trip to Londonia - bluddy awesome as almost everyone else (in NZ, at the time, that wasn't an expat) followed United or Pool. I've never been much of a sheep.

I was mates with a pair of brothers and their english family sent them over a full kit each - one everton and one liverpool. So that's who they supported. I was hanging with them and said who can I support because I felt left out. They said we've got the two best teams so you can have the third which is probably Arsenal. That was enough reason for a nine year old, so that was my team!
As it turned out we beat them both to the league that season - the iconic 1988/89 season no less...
