While I appreciate your hard work

I hate it.

I'll need to wear my sunglasses to read this. White screen with black text is to bright on my laptop and to me it looks crappy.

Has anyone else noticed just how much quicker the pages load? I am a very happy fan. Even my avatar is now showing - Thank you heaps. Might abbreviate my username to just L.G. or Lone.

I miss having the return to active topics as it was a quick way to see what people were talking about at the time... don't like scrolling through to find what's hot if that makes sense.

Works fine on my Samsung, a little snug getting all the page crammed in.

Not a technical person at all, but appreciate the time that has gone into this and just Yellow Fever in general. Love being on a forum with people who love footy like I do!!

There's always one.

Feel free to use some custom CSS or similar to reduce the glare, although I guess you'll be doing the same on half the internet. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

No pleasing some folks I guess.

That's odd, it should be significantly faster than the old site. P90 is hovering at under a second at the moment (90% of requests are served in less than one second) and the frontend is significantly lighter (lighthouse score of 79)

Let me know what device you're using? Might just be that there's a bit more going on on the client.

Was this earlier in the day? It was timing out, but I told MySQL to use the right index and it seemed a lot faster to me after that?

Oh... I just tried the Off topic section and got a red card.

also a minor thing, are we able to embed this down the bottom of the forum pages as it makes it easier to navigate out of each thread

It appears faster on my Dell laptop that's 8 months old and faster on my Samsung Galaxy that's about 5 years old.

Is there a way to make the background black in the forum or another color as white is to bright on my eyes at night.

Nik posted a hacky workaround for this further up the page, if you scroll up a bit. But can I suggest that you keep your usual wind-up merchant schtick out of this thread? Nik's put a fudgeload of work into this new site and deserves better than that.

Can we auto link URLs perhaps? I know there’s an option in the editor but that relies on the poster using it which doesn’t seem too common :)

Which phone? Could be doing something odd with the `device-pixel-ratio` stuff, but I think it may just be a stylistic thing (if you're gonna be doing a lot of reading it makes sense to me to have the text large and spaced out)

You could also move the user icon the left, saves some scrolling, the red part is all you're saving by doing that without loosing to much white space.

So finally ponied up with some cash. As long as we get a Patrick appearance in the match thread on the forums once a month I'm sure it's money well spent. About the same as Amazon Prime currently is, but a bit less than DAZN!

When there are loads of pages on a topic how do you quickly get to most recent post. Takes a very long time when there are lots of pages to click through

I think it’s pretty clear that I did want and was serious about feedback, as indicated by a number of things people asked for that I’ve already actioned (Twitter embeds, breadcrumbs down the bottom, fixed horiz scroll)

Even for you - someone who decided to be a bit of a dick about it - I gave you a solution.

All I’m asking is that instead of saying “it’s crap I’ll have to wear sunglasses” you say something like “It’s quite bright, have we considered dark mode or lower contrast or similar?”

There’s a way to give feedback that’s gentle, but it does depend on intent and I guess if your intent is to be a troll then 🤷‍♂️

Yeah this is my bad - I think this is the pagination that’s only got room for one page link? I’m thinking I might change it to a drop down or put it on another line.

I did consider this - generally the guidance seems to be that a scroll is the most common action on mobile so to optimise for that which is why most mobile pages are quite “tall”

Also on smaller phones moving that to the left squishes the information in it into nigh unreadability so I figured top is better.

Always a balancing act with limited space!

Love the new site, thanks for pulling it together Nik!

I am having an issue where clicking "new reply" or "reply" to a single post does nothing when on my laptop. Working fine on mobile, so must be something with my laptop/web browser - any ideas on how to fix?

Amazing stuff welnik, very impressed, well done!
Minor question, I use firefox at work and don't seem to be able to post? When you hit New Reply, or you hit Reply under Actions on someone elses post, all it does is refresh the page.
It's possible I'm on an old version of firefox, it's work, I don't know, and I notice it works fine on Chrome, so definitely not an issue worth spending much time on, but thought I'd mention it.

Same issue as me, but I'm using Chrome. Maybe something to do with work firewall settings? Not my wheelhouse though!

Feverish
make the 'X New' (posts) red font?
Red is generally reserved for errors, so it looks broken - and isn't used anywhere else on the site at the moment.

Are you just saying make them more visible?
