That site has been down for months.  Saying "We'll be back in February".  It's March now and still not going.  Unless ofcourse it's a cunning way to block me as I complained once and got a refund.

So neither McKain or Durante started, and unless I'm much mistaken neither of them got onto the field either?

Nope.

Defence was Milligan and Colosimo. TWG has picked Durante and Mckain to start, but alas that didn't turn out to be true. Cole and Jameison were the fullbacks.

So, baring serious injury problems it seems our lads are well down the pecking order.

Not sure that you watched the game, but is was very one sided, Oz should have won by 5.
As I said last week our two central defenders would not get a game.

It was one sided, but they created few real chances and looked ineffectual in the front half of the field and in the box.  Culina dreadful.

When you're playing a team as lowly ranked as Indonesia and Tommy Oar is your dominant best player in only a 1-0 win you should be concerned.

Verbeek may be effective results wise but they play the worst football in the game.

There will only be two players at the most that will play the AW's in May that played on Wednesday.
Surley you don't think that this was the best side, it was 95% local players.

All but likely that Verbeek is going after the World Cup.

Pim Verbeek to quit Socceroos after World Cup
Tom Smithies

THE worst-kept secret in Australian soccer will officially be made public in the next 48 hours with the announcement that Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek will leave the Australian set-up after the World Cup.

It's believed no successor has yet been appointed but Verbeek has opted to end the speculation to avoid it becoming a distraction as the World Cup approaches.

Though he had said he intended to sit down with Football Federation CEO Ben Buckley this week to make a decision on his future, in truth their discussion yesterday simply rubberstamped what has been a tacit understanding for months.

Despite Verbeek's success in guiding Australia to both the World Cup and next year's Asian Cup, Verbeek has made no secret of his desire to return to club coaching.

With Graham Arnold also quitting to become head coach of the Central Coast Mariners, and Verbeek's compatriot Henk Duut expected to leave with him, it will mean a blank slate in the national coaching set-up for the first time since Arnold arrived as No. 2 to Frank Farina in 2000.

All eyes - especially those of the Socceroos themselves - are now on who will succeed Verbeek, with senior FFA sources cool on the prospect of national technical director Han Berger taking over as caretaker coach to oversee the Asian Cup tournament next January.

The FFA's selection committee includes Buckley, Berger, director Phil Wolanski, head of national teams John Boultbee and of course chairman Frank Lowy.

Though their search has been running for months, their consensus is they can afford to wait until after the World Cup, with a greater availability of candidates in the aftermath of a major tournament.

The option of a caretaker boss, with a "bigger name" being appointed for the 2014 World Cup qualifiers starting in just under two years, has one attraction - it would save more than $2 million a year.

With the FFA bankrolling Adelaide United and North Queensland Fury in the short term, the organisation's finances are under stress, though Lowy has been adamant that the national set-up must have the resources it requires.

Verbeek meanwhile will keep the deal he made with himself after resigning as South Korea coach two and a half years ago, that he would resume the club coaching career that he had left to join Guus Hiddink in Korea in 2000.

Perhaps you should look at the big picture. Almost all the players were from the A league so when we play Oz in May, don't expect anywhere the same side. As for Tommy Orr, I think that you are underating him. He is only 18 years old. This guy will be a great player in the years to come.
Have we got this talent?
As for Verbeek, as a coach at this level the only thing that counts are results.
Just watch the game in May.

Quite right - its a results based job description that Verbeek has, but seriously they are a dire outfight to watch - even WITH their superstars. What many even here (oz) have overlooked is that this is an aging team and there's not a lot coming through the next generation.

Viduka has as good as called it quits, Kewell Bresciano Culina Emerton are on their last legs.... all great players in past years

Aside from Cahill & Schwarzer and maybe Carle ( who i think is quality but many others appear not to!) the Australian side is solid but lacking. They have a real lack of striker, so much so that Kewell is tipped to play the lone striker role since Scott MacDonald and Josh Kennedy seem unable to score.....

They are a team who rarely concede...but they dont score many either.

This is a big issue for Australian football right now.

I think they may be in for a rude awakening at the World Cup.

I don't know if this WC will expose them, but it will be interesting to see how their WC campaign (inc. qualifiers) will go in 2012(13?) on.

Perhaps we should be more concerned about the Aw's.
Oz and NZ will struggle to get through the first round.

I'll be more concerned about the All Whites in the All Whites thread. More concerned about Aussie in the Aussie thread.    I'd back Aussie to get out of their group, but it will be tough.

My prediction for OZ:

Comfortable loss to the Krauts
Narrower loss to the Serbs
Draw against Ghana

A narrow loss to the Jerries.
A narrow win against the Serbs
A embattled draw against Ghana.

Jerries to go through unbeaten and whoever second goes through by goal difference.

Actually I was tossing whether it would be a draw against Serbia but most people would be right for Serbia is most likely to win. I settled for a clever Pim strategy for the win instead, it will their most surprised upset. It is either Ghana or Serbia for an upset and I chose Serbia over Ghana.AllWhitebelievr2010-03-23 19:32:33

Anybody think Mile Jedinak would have an outside chance of making the squad?  He's currently in the Turkish league, was with Genclerbirligi but has been loaned out to Antalyaspor.

But won't they then have to play it to a striker who actually can play with his feet? Who they hell will that be?

I happen to think the Aussies might be in for a shock at this tournament. Both Germany and Serbia will beat them, and the Ghana match will be a dead rubber. Be a real shame when they're on the same plane as us.

Did his chances no harm by setting up both goals in the 2-1 victory over Galatasaray.
