Total Aotearoa fetish going on here. lol

love it!

Is he eligible to play for NZ? Think I heard he wanted to represent SA, but people do change their minds (e.g. Rory Fallon).

Played for Bafana Bafana senior team in 2017 & 2019. COSAFA Cup on both occasions.

He's South African.

https://us.soccerway.com/players/liam-jordan/39937...

He scored against Helsingor for HB Koge in December. Helsingor have lost their leading scorer (Kjær with 9) for the season. Eli Just is the next best with 3. So will need goals from Jordan & McCowatt.

Danish 2nd tier resumes 13th Feb.

Wonder how Sean Bright's trial went.

Just misses out on eligibility on the new rules:

Players can now switch national teams provided they were eligible to represent a second country at the time they first played for their first country, even if they have played in an official competition for the first nation.

This applies so long as they have played no more than three matches (including friendlies), none of the matches were in the final tournament of the FIFA World Cup or confederation competition, and they all happened before the player turned 21.

He has played 4 matches.

I mean, the rules have been softened, and he still doesn't meet the criteria. I don't see how that's unfair.

From this week's Flying Kiwis.

"First thing to say about FCH is that they’ve made the tragic and unforgivable decision not to sign Sean Bright after his trial spell. He played a couple friendly games during the winter break but they ultimately figured that the 19 year old (who was still 18 when he showed up in Denmark) wasn’t first team material quite yet.

Morten Eskesen, SCH head coach: “He is one we brought in for trial training through our American owners. I’ve assessed that he’s not yet at the level required. He is a great talent, but he has a long way to go. The club is in the process of helping him further at some level. Now I took him with me today in case something should happen for extra squad depth, but the intention is that he will move on to another club. It is something Gellert [Brian Gellert, sports manager] and the American owners are working on. He is a man for the future and it is better for his own development that he moves on because he will not get many minutes here. I would say that he is a 2nd division player.”

That’s quite nice of the bloke actually, maybe we’ll forgive him after all.

Note the mention of the American ownership, that’s a situation that’s been explained a few times but yeah they’re looking to do something similar to what the Ole Academy set up with Torslanda only for all American players to get a window into European footy. Except they don’t seem to have any American players in the squad at the moment... but they do have a trio of kiwis thanks to a relationship they developed with Ole x Torslanda, using that as a touchstone for their own project. Bright is also an Ole grad so that’s where that came from. As for ‘taking him with me today’ that’s in reference to their last friendly against Brondby, a 1-1 draw. McCowatt was the only NZer to feature in that one.

One bloke who FCH have signed however is Liam Jordan. Briefly of Auckland City back in the day, son of Keryn Jordan. After scoring 11 goals from 87 games for HB Køge at this level he’s joined this lot until the end of the season with an eye on a longer contract if he catches fire. Top scorer Jeppe Kjær is out injured for a while so they needed some help there."

McCowatt full game and a yellow in a 2-0 win away at Kolding IF (11th), as Danish 2nd tier resumes from it's winter break.

No Just or Wilkins.

Liam Jordan subbed on at 64 mins, just prior to Helsingor's 2nd goal.

Helsingor 5th, but hard to see them getting promoted being 15 pts behind top 2 sides.

Highly unlikely.

Presume Just is injured.

Helsingor with a 1-0 win over Fredericia (6th).

3rd win in a row for Helsingor (4th) since season restarted, but still 18 points off top spot.

87 mins for McCowatt (looks like was a right winger).. Liam Jordan subbed on at 57 mins, with score already 1-0.

Unfortunately is a 2-0 loss. Was 0-0 until 75th min.
Ends a good run of unbeaten games after returning from the winter break.

Just subbed off at 56 mins, McCowatt at 74 mins & Jordan 86 mins.
Helsingor 4th - with no chance of being promoted.
Wilkins remains out. His injury last year obviously reasonably serious.

I’ve always found it quite a cool story that two kids (Callum and Liam Jordan) that went to intermediate (Albany Junior and Northcross) just a few kilometres apart, and were talked about as two of, if not, the best intermediate-age footballers on the Shore end up representing different countries and playing professionally for the same team 17,500km away. You really couldn’t get that in any other sport in the world. From playing against each other at the AIMS Games and making the tournament teams in Tauranga a decade ago, to teammates, it’s a nice story.

Interesting, Northcross is where both my daughters went(unfortunately neither play football), seem to have a good football program it seems, they won the boys Aims tournament in 2019.

Bit of a tangent, but yeah I think them and Murray’s Bay always have strong teams, or at least did when I was at intermediate a decade or so ago. I think it’s more luck though, as intermediate is a bit unimportant so kids won’t really gravitate towards schools like they will high schools (think Westlake, MAGS, St Kent’s), and kids are all at clubs to play seriously, so it’s more-or-less luck as to which footballers are in zone for which schools. I might not be giving enough credit, but I remember the years my intermediate did the best at, were when we had a couple guys who would eventually be involved in the 2019 U20s World Cup, one going and the other making the long-list of players for the tournament, but that was just blind luck they happened to live in the school zone, and they would have done well at whatever school they went to.

McCowatt was only subbed on at HT, with a late blemish as had a pen saved by keeper at 91 mins.

Honestly really glad for these two both in cracking form with an upwards-heading club, especially McCowatt who struggled a little bit with the transition last season.

As a Kiwi that follows the Superliga really closely, it's really exciting that they could be playing Superliga football next season - Helsingør have been improving at great strides under the new ownership and are a strong contender alongside Lyngby and Fredericia to achieve promotion (two go up).

On their level it would be a great league to play in - the Superliga would be a very good level for young Kiwis to be getting regular minutes in and opens the door to heaps of other leagues around Europe. Obviously the season is not long underway but I'm really hopeful, for both McCowatt and Just and for the club.

Win takes Helsingør equal on points with Lyngby. Only points either team have dropped so far is 3-3 draw they had against each other on the weekend.

Surprised by how much of a cut above McCowatt looks at this level. Endless energy, looks two or three steps quicker than he was in NZ/the Olympics/the Phoenix, extremely tight ball control and agility which i thought was lacking previously. Absolutely terrorised the Jammerbugt defense today in a 6-0 win. Early goal from a free kick, and a beautiful Singh-like pre-assist to Just, who squared it for a tap-in.

He was impressive when subbed on for Reid against Japan in Olympics QF.

From Helsingor highlights I watch a lot of his best work seems to be in conjunction with Just. They have been playing & training together for what close on 10 years. Hopefully Helsingor get promoted (now top of the table) so they can be doing their stuff in Danish top tier next season. Be interesting to see how they go individually, when eventually they end up at different clubs again.

2nd headed goal in 2 games for McCowatt.

He was played on the left of a midfield four mostly at the Phoenix and the Olympics, which really didn't play to his strengths, often recieving the ball too deep to really hurt teams.
