Monty Patterson is at Auckland United and is one of the top scorers in Northern League, more or less his level, top-end national league player but not much higher

Must be chance for those AWs friendlies in October, with a few CB/DM candidates likely to be unavailable. Phoenix are probably already mathematically in the USL playoffs, so I'm sure they would let him go in need no worries.

From Flying Kiwis.

James Musa & Noah Billingsley (Phoenix Rising) – The Moose has played every second of Phoenix’s 24 games as one of the team’s leading central defenders and he’s even chipped in with a couple of goals. This for the team with the best record in the entire USL right now. They’re 16 points clear of the second placed team in their conference. Most recent was a 2-1 win over Orange County with an 86th minute winner clinching it despite playing the entire second half with ten men – making it five wins on the trot. However Noah Billingsley may have gone out on loan here to get minutes but has only featured in eight matches. Only one of those was a start. 130 mins in total. Not at all what was hoped for but this is a strong backline and he hasn’t really had the chance to show what he can do and force his way in.

Here’s an article about the both of them. Grain of salt here because it’s a bit condescending (and factually challenged in one or two places) but it’s got some good quotes from the two lads. Apparently Billingsley’s favourite pie is a “meat and cheese”. Gonna assume that means mince and cheese. Musa is more of a chicken pie guy.

Musa starting as Phoenix travel to Tacoma Defiance in USL.

No Billingsley. Niko Kirwan & maybe Francis de Vries, look most likely RB options now for the AWs in October. Or can Nikko Boxall shuffle across there as another alternative.

Full game in a 2-1 win over Tacoma (4th Western Pacific Conference). Winner for Phoenix in 90th min. They lead same Conference by 16 points, with a game in hand.

FYI - Billingsley hasn't been in a match day squad for over a month. And has only started the one game for the Rising back in May.

Full game as Phoenix (1st Western Pacific) lose 3-0 at LA Galaxy II (4th) in the USL. Musa played as a CB. No Billingsley.

Rising down to 10 men from 46 mins (score 0-0). They still lead their conference by a whopping 16 points, and I'm sure would release Musa for AWs if he had to be called up at all for Bahrain for some reason.

Harshness of playoff football. Western Conference quarters.

Despite easily winning their Western Pacific Conference Phoenix are knocked out of the playoffs on first bounce by Rio Grande Valley, who were a lowly 4th in the Western Mountain Conference.

2-2 end of NT. 3-3 end of ET.

RGV win it 4-3 on pens

Full 120 mins for Musa who wasn’t a pen taker. He played 32 games for the season (never subbed off) with 2 goals.
https://us.soccerway.com/players/james-musa/137687/

Presumably he will re-sign for the Rising, though if he ever wants to make the AWs again, looks like he will need to leave USL. He'll be 30 next year, so Qatar maybe his last shot at being part of a WC team, if the AWs made it. A pick up for the Nix?

Though like a Dyer he could come into the frame for the extra January FIFA window, if NZF find some friendlies but guys like Smith, Kirwan etc struggled to be released by their in season clubs. Could add Bell to that list if signs for a Championship club.
