Mein Gott !!! Der Kiwis are vaking up to challenge der Sky Fuehrer's dictatorship as zee Englanders haf already.!!!!

Consumers have even more choice in the UK now that it's legal for them to buy satellite (or internet) access to EPL games from any EU country.

A case in Britain last year resulted in a European Union ruling  established the right of all EU citizens to buy satellite packages from any EU country.

A pub landlady in Portsmouth was prosecuted by the Premier League for buying a Greek satellite package to screen EPL games in her pub and appealed to the European Union who ruled last year in her favour.

Sky TV's monopoly in Britain is now KAPUT !!!!

"The UK's so called "Premier League" football cartel loses a court case where they wanted to enforce their cartel restricting people to view football games ONLY through the Sky TV packages. This is ILLEGAL as it restricts free trade in the European Union. Even the Premier Leagues pathetic statement in this report refuses to acknowledge their cartel is OVER! Big media sore losers while the public for once win."

BeIN Sports have snatched away the UEFA Champions League rights for Oceania from ESPN.

BeIN Sports is carried by Foxtel in Australia.

I suggest that fans contact Sky TV and suggest that they add BeIN Sports to their roster.

BeIN Sports broadcasts heaps of football.

BeIN Sports Australia website for info on what they show: http://www.beinsports.com.au/

Contact Sky here:

https://skytv.custhelp.com/app/contactus/emailus

Sky Sport Facebook - post a message:

https://www.facebook.com/skysportnz

Sky TV Facebook

https://www.facebook.com/SKYnewzealand

This is what I sent to them and posted on their Facebook:

"With the UK & European soccer seasons starting, what I want to know is, now that you have lost the UEFA Champions League (ESPN no longer have the rights), on top of you losing the English Premier League rights a couple of years ago, what are you going to do about it? I suggest that you ditch ESPN and add BeIN Sports which now has the Champions League rights for NZ & Oz (It's carried by Fox in Australia). Plus BeIN Sports has heaps of other top football as well as rugby (Six Nations etc.)
I terminated Sky TV recently because of your lack of soccer coverage and won't subscribe again until it improves."

[I used the word "soccer" so they don't get confused]

if sky wree going to show football on their channels my own preference would be for the lower leagues as I believe these teams do have a lot more support than people realise, not everyone wants to watch the EPL

How are you going to watch the mighty A League?

I pretty much only have it for A League and NRL.

So I went with Fox Soccer 2 Go (http://www.foxsoccer2go.com/), lucky I signed up to everything before the NZ dollar dropped.

But I have UnoTelly (https://www2.unotelly.com/) and use a VPN so that I'm in the States, then I signed up for a year. Has a lot of football and hoping it will have the A-league again this year. (Bonus it has the NRL as well). It also comes with apps, so set yourself in the US app store and I have it on my phone and iPad.

Depending on the game, sometimes you don't have to even turn the VPN back on to watch the game through the app.

Big Pete 65 suggest the following instead of UnoTelly, but I haven't used them so can't swear by them. Have used UnoTelly for two years with Netflix and had no problems. https://dns4me.net/

Wow thanks Yakcall.

How much is foxsoccer2go? Probably still half the price of sky but just checking.

Unotelly is the dodgy free one right?

Oh yes, prices might be a good idea. I had UnoTelly already but again that was because I was using it for Netflix, it offered DNS and VPNs. There maybe cheaper out there. Its not the dodgy free VPN Hola that was just busted. You can try them for free, to check it out. Costs about $60 USD a year.

Next to sign up to Fox Soccer 2 go, you need to have a VPN and it set to the states or the website will come up Geo Blocked. It costs either $19.99USD a month or $$169.99 USD for the year.

Once signed up, make sure you download the apps too, found the phone one really good.

So yeah, that is why I am happy I signed up a few months ago when the NZ dollar was much higher than it is now. As at the moment it is 1 USD to 1.53 NZD.

UnoTelly would be $91 NZD, Fox Soccer 2 Go is $260.00

Yeah, so when I signed up. One I already had UnoTelly and Soccer 2 go only cost $180NZD as the dollar was strong. Its not as good now.

I've watched the Women's World Cup on it, the Gold Cup and will watch Bundesliga and Champions League too

That's a great article that hits the biggest reasons for piracy, inconvenience and prices of legal content.

And as the article states. If all of these sites are making millions from ad revenue then imagine a low cost sub model that makes billions legally from ads.  they could have a high priced model for ad free and bam. Billions and billions of dollars.

And there are times piracy is the better service\only way to enjoy content.

I will pay for content if possible.

But have no qualms about using a dodgy stream if there is no reasonable option for me to do so. Such as a boxing fight where you have to first be signed up to a $1200 a year sky subscription before you can even pay a further $60 to access the fight.

I'm even willing to use VPN to pay for the content before I look to a free website to stream it. But then I'm told that's wrong too. They want to have their cake and eat it too, so I have no sympathy for them that people use these streams. It's simply a cost of their distribution model.

Like Tegal, I would always rather pay for the content, or use VPN to access it to a legal provider (BBC/ITV etc)

Cable TV providers bundling the sport behind a paywall of "basic" content is criminal. I'd paid for a bundled sports subscription, but I'd expect to be able to choose my live content (Eg multiple EPL games, not just 1-2).

I currently am paying for PLP, NFL & NHL streaming, we also have Quickflix (Trial), Netflix, & Lightbox for TV streaming, and we have Spotify for Music streaming.

Reasons I am likely to stream illegally:

1) NZ coverage is delayed - Prem League when on Sky game I wanted to watch live was often delayed, TV shows where we get it 2-3 weeks (or more) after the US, with the connected world surely this is no longer acceptable, I'm ok with it being 5 days for TV.

2) No Legal method to watch - Some sports/TV is just not available within NZ by ANY method.

3) Geoblocked - I generally just use a VPN to avoid this, but I am completely anti ALL Geoblocking, stop selling regional 'exclusive' deals.

4) Sky is a piece of SHIT - Literally less content but we'll increase the price of our sports package, even though our books show that Sports is where they make the money. While we add 4 more movie channels with NO increase in the price of that package.

I have other reasons, but struggling to put them down in writing :P (I watched Season 5 of Walking Dead illegally, I binge-watched the first 4 seasons on Netflix, and then wanted to watch the 5th, but as it had finished on TV2 it wasn't there, no streaming site had it. AMC only had 'highlights' only place to get it was iTunes or Amazon both which rejected my NZ Credit Card...so downloaded & streamed copies it was)

Sky is not for everyone but yesterday, I was watching - the ashes, the one dayer against Zimbabwe and two vital NRL games for my fantasy SuperCoach.

For those who also follow league and cricket it is great.

Oh and also after watching the Warriors at 5pm today I may consider staying up and watching the dreaded rugby game whilst watching the last rites in the ashes

If any of those sports were solely online I don't know if I would bother

Oh I agree it is great for watching a range of sports, the thing that constantly annoyed me was the delayed coverage of some sports seemingly rated over live coverage of others. And then when they had been losing content Golf & Football being the big 2 to other providers and they still had the cheek to raise prices. If Sky's sport services were provided without having to pay for the basic channels I'd probably still have it, but I cannot justify the $600/yr cost for 1-2 shows on Doco channels, Disney/Nikolodean & The Zone, being the only channels on basic we watch,

Yep it's good for a range of sports if you're not overly fussed what you see. An example is the championship football they've recently got. 1-2 games a week - that'd suit most people. Same with American sports, they just show a few games a week. That's fine for some people.

Online is good for those who watch few sports but want to see nearly every game, on their own terms.

I've said this before, not that you ever take notice.

Also have to ask, why wouldn't you bother if it were online? It's just as easy (if not easier). I can literally watch a game within 2 button pushes on my phone, and have it on my TV in 3.

I also see that they got the championship coverage from beIn sports. They also have the champions league rights, so maybe there is an arrangement with sky there. Which means most games will be delayed or not shown at all, bit of a shame. May end up using foxsoccer2go after all.

First weekend without Sky.

Borrowed a login for Sky Go to watch the rugby, that was okay although I wouldn't rely on it for something I really wanted to watch.

Currently watching United/Spurs on Premier League Pass. It's working fine but the quality is so-so and I had to hook my laptop up to the tele because their app was broken and their support email address bounces back! Shambles.

maybe something to do with spark having their own service centres?

Figure the reason they don't have new apps developed or chromecast support is they want to see if they retain the rights before committing to developing them.

Does anyone know anything about the Australian FOX Sports on demand packages? Unotelly claims to work for the Fox Sports Australia Apple TV app. They've got some package that seems to include EPL and A-League, but their website is very confusing.

This is interesting. I'd pay $14.99 for a day pass to watch a Phoenix away game that was at an inconvenient time for the pub or if I couldn't be arsed going to the pub.

think you're in the minority there, $15 seems about $5 too expensive for me to pay it rather than find a stream.

that's only marginally cheaper than a sky subscription, and there is no on demand option.

But it is another step in the right direction I suppose.

soo you would use a dodgy stream even though there is a legit version for the sake of $5?

isn't the whole thing been about un-bundling of sports from basic tiers which is getting closer and closer?
