You can awlays retrain though Stevo. Yes, it costs gold but it's never irrecoverable.
Also, now you know you can move crews you can accellerate training of your crews by daily doubling them twice a day (eg Matilda crew in BP or Church crew in TOG). Unless your premium crews are more advanced in which case you should probably retrain them to a non-premium tank - more gold.
