Good nostalgia....love my ska....but

Much prefer the 1980 Dave Wakeling to 2012 version.....and no Ranking Roger

A shame we all grow old

So what modern "toons" are you listening to mate?

I read your post and thought of ska and great music. Anything else new tickle your fancy?

To do with Ska just read "Pauline Blacks" autobiography "Black By Design"                                                                                              An angry young lady in her yoof, adopted and raised by a white family.                                                                                               Hard to believe "The Selecter" in their origional line up were only together for 2 years. Definately a good read

Away from Ska Top of my play list although a couple of years old, The Courteeners and The Answering Machine

Being busy bringing up a family through the late 80`s to recently, I`m catching up on a lot of music I missed

My 2 recent purchases have 808 State and Mr Scruff both early 90`s

From recommendations from this site

Enjoy Sugar, Copper Blue especially "Hoover Dam" love the way it kicks in

and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, when they stick to ska

On all I will listen to most music except bloody Country and Western !! (Please no intro on the Podcast)

This, morsel only, from Saturday night at the SFBH -Vas Deferens - benefit gig.

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

 Valentina - The Wedding Present.

I saw them back in 88 or something like that and was not that familiar with their music but was suitably blown away by them live. I was gutted when they folded soon after.

I adore the new album, it's like an old flame you've not seen for awhile who's gone away, grown up and gotten older but is still as charming, witty and heartbreakingly beautiful as always.

christ I love this album.

Gedge was always up their with other fine British songwriters like Blackwell, Ray Davis,  Morrissey, etc that could write amazing bittersweet and ironic songs.

They are at the San Fran Bath House on the 23rd - do yourself a favour and go and see them.

OK, I've just realised the Wedding Present are in Wellington on the 23rd, Nix at home vs Adelaide on the 24th, up to Auckland to see The Stone Roses on the 26th, then back to Wellington for Nix vs Jets on 27th.

I better wash a fuck load of dishes between now and then.

Roses a chance. Might need to be in AK for work that night.

Wedding Present maybe depends on some Adelaide visitors dragging me out drinking.

Cool. If you end up doing the Roses let me know. I'll be there with Chris (Bez to my Ryder).

If so I'll have a workmate in tow and probably catch up with a Nighthawk and his Mrs who are already locked in.

I'll definitely be going in Melbourne, with thanks to yourself for drawing attention to their tour down under. Just not sure whether to do the George Best gig or the Hit Parade gig. Can't do both unfortunately.

I've read somewhere that they have been recently playing stuff from Seamonsters album. I can't believe this given just how fine Valentina is.

If we go to the gig later tonight we'll definitely be disappointed, because it's tomorrow!

The Weddoes must be taking the scenic route down here.

Well apart from having the hangover from hell the next day, it was a great gig.

Got to talk to the mighty Gedge.

FT: Last time I saw you was in 1988!

Gedge: Welcome back...

FT: I loved the new album, best thing you've ever done!! What's next?

Gedge: I'm going up on stage and playing the guitar

FT: erm that's not what I meant, after that, what's next?

Gedge: I'm going to bed

As Kiwi Hatter remarked about him, in typical Kiwi Hatter fashion, "He's a Dry Bastard that one" :)

And the miserable sod only signed my t-shirt "David" not "David Gedge"

I'd still marry him though!

On the ground in Auckland now. The long, loping bassline from "I Wanna Be Adored" running through my head on repeat.

"Mani, Mani, it's meeeeee!"

Actually it's a shame the timing couldn't have allowed The Wedding Present to support The Stone Roses.

Not that The Wedding Present should have to do that but it still would have been cool.

A few Stone Roses fans would have got a bit of an education anyway.

They might be Giants  are coming over.

I always had a soft spot for one of there early tracks, (bought on a cassette single - can't remember what it was),  and loved John Linnell's track "South Carolina" which is my fav cycling track ever.

They where proto Weezer for me as I recall them being much earlier and I don't think Weezer would have had the success if TMBG's had not been around. Not totally my cup of tea but i liked.

What do you lot think?

Buzzcocks coming back for 4 dates late April/early May also.

Love the Buzzcocks - timeless stuff.

Would go and see them every week if I could.
