Give the Nix that psychological home advantage

Yellow Fever helps.  But is it enough?  2007/08.  10 points out of 30 at home.  Not the ROF/Fortress of Death we're looking for.  Besides signing up better players - how can this be rectified?  Easy.  Amp up the Nix's psychological home advantage.

I want every Aussie football cheat to go home from the ROF sniveling like this:

Nice idea, dunno if the Rules allow us to play around with the goals etc, anyone??

Queenslander 3x a year.

What we need is sh*t loads of Phoenix flags everywhere, banners, streamers and everything. Make it a wow factor then that would bring more people to games because they want to be part of the fun.

I like that idea Harry, the Newcastle, Adelaide and Melbourne fans seem to like their banners and flag, etc and it would add to the atmosphere I think.

The club should inquire with the FFA about the Yellow nets. Or maybe you could email the FFA Stevo and suggest to them the nets be the main colour of the home team (but Yellow rather than black in our case).

The best way to turn RoF into a fortress is to have Perth come and play us here every second week....

Until we can fill up the stadium week in and week out we should put speakers on all of the empty seats and play chants

Agreed, Yellow Fever could work on its visual presence more so than its audible presence; still too many people turning up in EPL shirts and the like (flame away!) and not enough scarves up, flag flying, banner waving support. Melbourne and Sydney are probably the best examples of this.

Look at the visual support in my avatar (which was just a random square crop of a much bigger picture) or the crowd from a Victory match, and then compare it to a shot of YF.

Not saying I'm perfect or that we can't acheive this, of course we can. A great start would be for everyone to wear Nix/YF gear and most to have scarves and take it from there.

One issue we do have though, unlike the sky blue of Sydney for example, is we have 2 supporter shirt colours, black and yellow, which makes it look like less of a "wall" of support, if you know what I mean.

Edit - couldn't find the greatest example, but:

Yellow Fever needs to remain just that... Yellow. Having multiple colours removed the visual impact of having a supporters group.

If you want to consider your average mob of All Blacks supporters at a game. They always wear Black, whether it's official shirts or just body paint. But the 'black out' effect is easy to spot when watching games, especially tour games overseas.

Easiest way to start, remove any YF gear that's not yellow. And encourage people to *wear yellow* and to buy and hold proudly aloft team scarves.

No, they should be playing fake crowd sounds and loud music every time the ball is kicked.

Which is fine, except for the fact that the team wears black, and some people have spent 130 bucks on team jerseys (or less, but still some, money on official merch which is mostly black) - it's a little too late to change now I fear.

I like those great big flags you saw at the World Club Championship, with the Asian sides like Urawa Red Diamonds having these massive flags at ground level behind the goals, then when their team score, they all lift them up high and wave them. One of the best sights I've ever seen in a crowd.

Yes, but not all the people who show up wear official shirts. Half the people I've seen in the YF zone have worn whatever they had handy to them at the time.

It's no problem to wear official shirts, but those that dont have them, should be encouraged to wear yellow :)

Please don't try and start telling people what to wear for fock sake! Hey don't we give our boys the best support in the A league all ready?????????
The reason why the home win ratio has been bad is cause of the team on the park, NOT the support.
That said GIANT Phoenix flags flags get my vote, they will always fly in the Wello 'breeze' but you better not block my view of the game or I'll be sticking the flag somewhere rather uncomfortable for you.  Flags on the feild is a great idea, plenty of spare grass on these Crap multipurpose grounds we seem to like in NZ.
P.S. Cricket for cricket grounds I say

Ard Righ - you're right mate, we agree - however I slightly misunderstood what you meant. :)

Depends how you define "best", I guess.

That's not true, I like kids I just couldn't eat a whole one in one sitting.

Seriously though, I believe that Children are our future, teach them well and let them lead the way.  In fact I think we should show them all the beauty they possess inside.

How about we try and get the club to supply those "banger things" you see at the netball?

They had them for the Beck... LA Galaxy game, and they were crap. They dont make all that much noise, they break easy, and not worth the hassle :)

Bigger flags would be a bonus, not sure if they'd be allowed in the RoF? Security is a bit tight-arse on anything that looks like it would annoy people?

Flags need to be like 2m x 2m I reckon, or those monster things they have at NRL games like 4mx4m  :)

I was taking the pish.

However, I have just had a bit of a retro thought, now I'm not normally one for "pre-arranged let's all support our team this way" type thing, however, how about the YF bring out their own range of (I can't think of the right word) "rattles" you know, the wodden, twisty in the hand make a rattley type noise, used in the 50's type thing?

Help me out if you know what I'm talking about........

No to anything that makes an annoying loud noise in my ear. Those bangers just mean that people get hit in the head, and as for horns, we want the team to hear our chants not just noise.

Horns and Bangers it is then.  I'll contact the club on behalf of the YF and try and arrange it.

Just to be sure, when you say horns, you do mean the 3ft long yellow cone type ones?

Any chance of you making a football pitch on Saturday ?

Robin, don't let them stir you up... Milky and DLB would be the first two wrapping a plastic horn or a Thunderstick around someone's head if they see one.

Yeah you boys are onto it - we need heaps of people wearing team shirts - home/away/whatever- just so long as they are in PHOENIX shirts - and then scarves, flags whatever we can get our hands on.

And if it takes distributing song sheets so the WHOLE crowd knows that chants then let's not be so precious just bloody well do it!

Yeah - you're onto it! How do we do that? I've already got ten of my mates signed up for season tickets this year who didn't have them last year.

If we start winning, that'll get the numbers up - but if we get mates coming along and give em a taste of a Phoenix night out we should be ale to get 20k going .....

Im sure lots more people will buys season tix this year, but the key to is winning games. As we saw last year, everybody loves a winner. People are fickle like that (the vast majority) and thats just the way it is sadly.

Yeah agree - but we didn't win every game last year and we still got 8-10k ... it's just a bloody great atmosphere (pisses all over a rugby game) - with or without bangers or rattlers ....just not bloody cow bells ....
