The return of the giant shirt!

I like Steve-O's idea. Id pay 20 Bucks to get my name on a giant phoenix shirt or flag. I reckon a lot of people here would. If someone could think of a good way to get all the money, and then organize it.

Shotgun not.

I forsee this problem: we get the money, we don't get enough of it, so we pull the pin on it, and I have to spend a week of my life refunding people individually.

Nightmare.

hence the bucket idea on match days until we have enough- of course that would rely on a member of the fever exec to remain sober and upright to hold the bucket and not heave their dinner into it on the night.

That's good, another idea is at the BB when people are paying for pints etc, the bar staff could say would you also like to pay a bit extra towards 'the big shirt' as a donation?
Same principle could apply at RYOS, The Phoenix Store and maybe Champs if we could get them all on board with it?

I can't remember how Hibs.Net managed to organise it, but I do know I paid for it via paypal, which went to the admins of the site.

I THINK, first of all they ran a thread / poll asking how many would be prepared to do it (specifically asking that no time wasters said they'd give money but then disappear when the time came!) and it turned out there were more than enough people willing to donate and I'm fairly sure some people who came along late couldn't get their name on as there was not enough room.

There were also double donations from people who wanted their real name and username on it, as well as some others who had family members names put on etc etc.

So, how much do you think it would be? Could it be as easy as getting 200 people to pay $10 each?

This is the obvious way to do it

1) Come up with a few possible designs, and work out how much it will cost.

2) Let people who are interested in paying for a spot vote for the best design, advertise the banner at games etc if numbers are low.

3) Divide the cost, collect the money and people can decide what they want as their name on the banner.

4) Make it, parade it, watch the requests for more simlar banners come rolling in.

If I could make a suggestion and I am pretty sure I would get no dispute (well I think)

If you do a collection and fall short, rather than spending a week of your life refunding people individually, put the money into the next Yellow Fever scholarship.

With the success it achieved in presenting Marco Rojas to the Phoenix, I don't think many people would have an issue with this in presenting potential young talent the the Phoenix because the money is going to another worthy cause, especially in light of this years gold strike.

You then give those that donated a greater sense of ownership in this forum because of their contribution to the scholarship and also to the club by helping to fund discovery of new/deserving talent.

Great idea. I'm still happy to front with my $20 and if it ended up in the Scholarship Fund, then so be it.

An 'official' thread is required to see who's in and who is out!

Oh yeah, and a target amount is also required...any flag makers on here?

If it's a Retro Ricki and he gets the sack (definately not what I want) then we'd feel a bit dumb.

Just to clarify our views--  I see other ideas popping into this thread now.

We are up for a large Wellington Phoenix shirt or banner for use at Nix Games, which we could individually sign perhaps.
Personally I think it should be about the Club and the team, not about us.
Happy if for any reason it doesn't go ahead our money should go to the YF Scholarship for next season.

Yeah. I think maybe a large banner with the logo on it would be good. Saves us making a new one if the club changes the strip in two years time. I reckon you could get 100 poeple for $20 each, rather easy. But organizing it would be a bitch.

The thing about having the names printed on, is that people feel they have more of a personal affiliation with the flag, and are therefore more likely to pay.

I don't know about anyone else, but I am more likely to help pay for a flag with my name on it, rather than just hand over cash for a flag with a Phoenix badge on it.

As you can see in the pictures I posted previously, the names are fairly discreet when the flag is viewed from a distance.

I should also mention that the Hibs one we got made was featured in the local newspaper with photos and all, so something like this could be organised too for a bit of publicity.

Okay so back on topic there seem to be quite a few interested in this shirt idea.

How's this for a proposal:

1. We will set up an account that people can put $20 in to.
2. At the end of a period of time (1 month?) we will get a flag or shirt made as big as we can with the money put into that account.
3. Everyone who puts money into that account will get an opportunity to sign that shirt or flag.
4. We will wave that shirt or flag at home games.
5. There will be no refunds.  If we only have $20, we will get a $20 flag made.

If that sounds good please reply with the word "Yay."

although do you mean literally signing the flag with a pen? Cos my signature is quite frankly rubbish, and I'd rather have my name printed on the flag!!

Wouldn't printing the names on it cost more?

Anyway, I think signing them personally is more of a statement than having them printed off.

I don't even know how you'd go about getting individual names printed on a massive flag/shirt.

So yeah, I mean sign it, with a pen.
