Melbourne City adds W League.

Phoenix indicate intent to develop a W League squad.

Is their the sponsor support to be based in Wgtn?

Is their the fan support?

Major need - is their the volunteer support to provide a game day crew if in Wgtn?

Waiting for legs to be chopped off by my mate ?

Edit: forgot #Carlsberg #?

Dome says it'll happen within two years:

Right at the end:

"Plans to have an ASB Youth team next season are on track, as are those for a female side in the W-League within two years."

As a sister school to Scott's and education provider to "The Morrison" I can see a future for a Girls Academy in Wgtn

I'd guess their plans are zero at them moment. Unless they get NZF on board i.e. relocate Ferns programme to Wgtn - then they will stay that way.

I wouldn't go and watch a women's league quite frankly. Is there generally an apetite for womens' football in NZ?

Some of the women play better quality football then a fair few men and the language is better.

Seriously, let me call around some of the feminists and queer ladies I know in Wellington and I bet you could get quite a rowdy Estrogen Fever croud together.

it was a serious question. I've seen a couple of games but they were essentially just schoolgirls. I realise the W League might have slightly older players but if wanted decent quality football I'd probably stick with Nix Men. If I just wanted a perv, beach volleyball FTW

Sometimes I read the Yellow Fevr Forums and I'm incredibly proud to be a part of it all.

Other times I read and I just shake my head.

Don't be such a wanker, I asked a question, do you have an actual answer and one that is backed up with some facts instead of some knee-jerk kumbaya reaction?

It's a pointless question - of course there are people who want to watch womens football (and want to play it). It's only good for our game.

ok genius, give us some nz numbers, then some W League numbers? In the face of contrary evidence I am saying bugger all people watch it except, mums, dads, boyfriends and girlfriends? Only too happy to have it demonstrated otherwise but you are too busy congratulating yourself on your own enlightenment to provide any proof of your position.

If it doesn't attract more than an ASB Prem game, then it doesn't have a snowballs hope in hell of being sustainable in the long term.

Not if they don't exist :). College American football gets crouds of up to 90,000 but that doesn't mean a NZ American Football league would be sustainable in NZ.

The point I was raising, and was not seen through a haze of incense, was that there is perhaps no real appetite for womens' football in NZ and so unlikely to be a financial success.

Some stats here, not encouraging. Would be interesting to know what the financial model is. Money has got to be coming from somewhere and if so, would Fenix be on the receiving end of any?

Lazy morning so some research. Salary cap $150,000 per year, major sponsor Westfield (Lowry) no tv deal this year after ABC withdrew. Melbourne C joining this year, only A League clubs not represented are ourselves and Mariners who pulled out previously on financial grounds and have not returned. One other club based in Canberra. Been going 8 years which does surprise me.

Doloras, I went the the U17 games played here in Wellington and thoroughly enjoyed the standard of football played. Meeting fans/parents from some of those players from the various countries was very good too. I also think the Lady whom was nominated for goal of the year should have gotten it. The winning goal wasn't that good.

I've been to a fair bit of women's football in NZ and while I don't have numbers, this is my perception. At Northern League level it's mostly family and friends in attendance but that's about par for the Northern League across women and men. In terms of national leagues, they aren't really comparable. The ASB Women's League isn't marketed as much as the ASB Premiership (the ASB Women's League isn't marketed at all really), it's federation teams not franchises, it only runs over 3 months and it's only been going a few years. But my best estimate is a croud at an Auckland or Northern game is comparable with a Waitakere United game at Fred Taylor and if you go to Christchurch where they actually treat women's football with the respect it deserves, Mainland Pride gets crouds comparable to an average Auckland City croud at Kiwitea. But call me a bleeding heart liberal, I don't think all this justification should be required. Women are 50% of the population and equality should be the starting point. The onus of proof should be on why not, not why.

I think you know what I mean and yet you still hvaen't provided anything meaningful to the discussion except posting some shyte about feminist fans or something. It is all very well to be politically correct but I'm asking for some realism and haven't got any of it from those who opposed my post. In saying that it is relatively common to be met with slogans and rhetoric when proper answers can't be provided.
