I enjoyed seeing that little Forest Green Rovers won their Wembley play-off final just over a week ago against Tranmere to gain promotion to League Two.

From the village of Nailsworth, population just over 5000.

Owned by green energy millionaire Dale Vince, the players are on a vegan diet and all food sold at the stadium is vegan.

They are the world's first vegan professional sports team.

They have plans to build a wooden stadium designed by the late great architect Zaha Hadid.

I'm a vegetarian myself and will be supporting Forest Green from now on along with Canterbury United, Charlton Athletic and the Phoenix.

On Tuesday night last week, the TVNZ One 6 pm News bulletin broadcast a BBC story about Forest Green Rovers.

TVNZ One 6 pm News bulletin (36 minutes into the story; available till tomorrow, Tuesday):

I am vegan too, wouldn't mind some of the forest green rovers food available on match days at the cake tin (or some non dairy milks for coffee on those colder evenings)

I remember Forest Green as being one of the hardest non league teams that any team would have to play against

It's the food equivalent of craft beer really, isn't it?

A recent news report on the club and its food and environmental and vegan policies: they are really walking the talk.

Seems that the food at the Forest Green stadium has been a roaring success with away fans appreciating it too.

Fans enjoy the quality offerings and the fact the food is made locally by a talented chef plucked from a local cafe:

http://www.euronews.com/2018/02/14/forest-green-ro...

“They [the coaching staff and stadium chef] agreed [the club food could be better] and that day we took red meat off the menu.” This was portrayed in the media as a “red meat ban” but Vince insists fans were always permitted to bring their own food to the stadium. The fact that apparently very few did may be a testament to the food on offer.

“We took white meat off the menu, then fish, and two seasons ago we went the final stretch and took off dairy,” said Vince

“In the time since we’ve done that, food sales have quadrupled.

“What we focus on is great food. It’s handmade by a local chef, using local ingredients where we can, and we put a lot of love into the food. You don’t normally find that with football."

With 39 of 46 league games played, Forest Green look to have a good chance of staying up as they sit 21st of the 24 teams in League Two on 40 points with only the bottom two relegated (currently Barnet and Chesterfield on 34 and 32 points):

https://us.soccerway.com/national/england/league-t...

Welsh striker Chris Doidge is continuing his great scoring run from last season when he scored 27 goals in the Conference (National League) with 16 goals so far this season for Forest Green in League Two, making him fifth-equal league top-scorer.

This is far superior to any of his previous seasons in League Two with Dagenham and Redbridge.

All except two players in the squad are British (and one of the foreign players hasn't played) with only two of the British players not being English (two Welshmen) - continuing the "locally-based' theme of the club with owner Dale Vince being a local Gloucestershire businessman, the stadium food and beveridges locally-sourced etc.

Also vegan. Got to admit, it's quite cool to see professional athlete's promoting veganism. Here's hoping these lads can dodge relegation and stay in League 2.

Another vegan here as well. Didn't think there would be this many on Yellow Fever!

The only thing I buy at the games these days is a soy flat white.

Best thing to come out of this so far has been the footage of referee Mike Dean celebrating like a madman in the crowd - turns out he's a Tranmere fan, went to the away fixture, what a legend.

Oh come on. It's staring you right in the face. This is more likely a forest gag rather than a Vegan pun.

FGR have started the season well with quite a few hard earn results. They take on Bournemouth today in the Carabao cup. Huge task. 35mins gone though and it is still 0-0. But Bournemouth are flexing their muscles and FGR are just holding on. Come on FGR!

What a mad game. Though the Cherries should have won it in regular time, with Wilson and Harry running riot, it went all the way to penalties. And that is where the luck ran out, with Bournemouth winning 3-0.

But huge performance from Wallocatt in goal, he made some stunning saves and some very lucky deflections.

Bellerin invests in the club! Pretty cool news (esp as I support both clubs). Interesting to see how the vegan message evolves as lots of players now are also going vegitarian/vegan or restricting their meat intake with the idea of making their bodies healthier/stronger. I don't know the science behind it but maybe there is some.

Also, I didn't know that current players could invest in clubs that are in the same country. Like what happens if FGR get arsenal in the FA cup?

I was reading that he put in an amount that was within the limits for a professional player - seems like it's all legit. I would imagine if FGR did get the Arsenal he'd be in an awkward spot - or perhaps a sign of an immediate departure? :(

Ex U16 and U20 England Coach Rob Edwards was appointed as the new Manager with Mark Cooper (who was there for the past 5 years) moving on to manage Barrow.

Keen to see how the new fella goes. Cooper was pretty instrumental in changing the club. Hope he goes well at Barrow.
