Hey Guys

Last season i did a Phoenix save which didn't end well!

This season i've just started my brand new FM18 youtube series today. Im going for a different way of telling the FM journey & this time we are going through the eyes of the media rather than just playing every single game. This should create a series with plenty of backstory to go along with FM18 content.

Episode 1 is now live on my youtube page - check it out and let me know your thoughts - really to keen to evolve this series based on feedback & develop the story.

I'm looking to start by adding in the New Zealand league and build from there.

Cheers

Anyone know anything about this game being region locked. Nz Gameshop say they cannot sell me the game as its region locked and unavailable to sell to NZ

Sounds odd, perhaps their specific physical copies are region locked but the game itself certainly isn't. I'd recommend just getting the download version via Steam.

yep i brought it on steam - sitting 2nd in the league with 2 games to go - AK9 top goalscorer, Paracki top for overall average and Parkhouse leading the assist table.  Only starting player I have brought in was Nathan Coe in goal - FM 18 massively under-rates Keegan :-)

Hey everyone, been playing these games for years but wanting a bigger challenge. This year I am wanting to do something different and since our country’s national team and professional club are in a bit of mess at the moment I have decided I will step up and take control of both Wellington Phoenix and the All Whites. Hoping this will be a long term save where I develop kiwis in the Nix to then send them on to overseas club with the end goal of making the national side stronger with higher calibre players. I want to recruit majority of my players from NZ Premiership or any other New Zealanders abroad ready to return home. I also want to try make my DP players foreigners who are willing to come to NZ for the 5/6 years to give then nationalisation to then be able to picked for the All Whites! Will be a bit of a task but I will post a season update on here for those that interested!

Done a bit of editing in the database to add Kiwis to correct clubs and the recent coach movements, while also removing Finkler and Vidosic.

Doing that with Cuba rn, started at a university team in Florida signing up all the best young Cuban talent. Won the league and moved to the Cuban league, won the league first time and now I’m in Costa Rica, bringing my best Cuban contingent with me wherever I go and sending players off to Cuba for a few years to gain nationality. Really fun, would recommend to anyone with any country in mind!

Solid first season managing to win the regular season with 2 games to go. Playing a 433 with a fast front 3 worked a treat. AK9 got injured for 3 months but hardly missed him as Krishna scored 6 goals (!!!) in his first game as the new spearhead. Brought in Jai Ingham, Cory Brown and loaned out Bell. Ingham was incredible on the right wing with Krishna down the middle. AK9 hasn’t really produced for me which is annoying after I extended his contract. Won the semi finals over Perth with a 93rd winner from Paracki which was identical to Scholes’ goal against Barcelona in the UCL. In the final Adelaide equalised in the 92nd minute and went on to beat us on penalties. Great first season with the Nix, while also implementing Singh, Ridenton and Cacace into first team regulars. For the All Whites, many players are choosing to represent their 2nd nationality over NZ as we did not make the WC. Lost to Uruguay 6-0 at their place but drew 0-0 in NZ.

jesus you are one brave man

do you have the ingame editor? If you don't it's only $5 or so, allows you to edit anything about the game, I'd recommend it to terminate the contracts of Abbas and co, and also upgrade the potential of guys like Cacace and Singh who are legitimately terrible ingame and will never get anywhere near the first team

yeah before my save I admit I did some editing in the pre game editor on some of the youngsters so they matched their real life potential.  Also some of the young players at Auckland City needed adjusting

Yeah it’s pretty weird, i’m still on FM17 and some players have crazy stats, like Singh having around 90 potential (below Handy level) and Cacace having 47 potential (jesus christ i’m probably better than that)

I notice (In FM Touch 18) That Ryan Thomas is still criminally underrated and is still listed as a winger rather than a deep lying CM. Is this likely to change in the February update?

For sure, one of if not the best players in the Netherlands this season. Can always use the editor to change that, I'd give him 135 Current Ability and around 160 Potential Ability

Second season made some good progress on the national stage by increasing our FIFA rank with incredible 3-0 wins over Chile and 4-2 win over Australia. Having trouble getting kiwis into England due to the poor world ranking so this is something I am targeting. With the Nix I cleared out ‘deadwood’ Lowry, Watson, Mullen, Abbas, Italiano and sold AK9. I brought in Tim Payne, Valmir Berisha (big signing striker) Sixten Mohlin (very good Swedish GK), Cory Brown, Max Mata and halfway through the season got Monty Patterson on loan and Cameron Lindsay to boost depth from many injuries. I have Liam Wood/Rogerson getting first team minutes while Ridenton and Singh are now regulars which I am trying to develop youth. Having big problem with kiwi free agents demanding ridiculous contracts and so no club at their level wanting to sign them unfortunately, which has left some players having to retire who i thought could still do a job for the All Whites. Overall, finished 2nd but lost semis to Victory and crashed out of the cup early on. Huge rebuilding year approaching as Durante retires and McGlinchey wanting out as well as all the off contract staff pricing themselves out of a renewal… Loving this!

Doing the ultimate journeyman save right now. Just loaded up every single league from every single country in the world using a custom database. Started with zero experience / qualifications in the Cook Islands with Puaikura. Finished 3rd in the 7-team league before leaving for New Caledonian side Baco in December. Haven’t started the season yet but i’ve assembled a great young squad including a 16 year old Libyan regen with huge potential, and a 16 year old French mid who’s a 5 star ability player already!

I’m playing this realistically, so my goal is to eventually move to one of the top New Caledonian clubs and then hopefully do well in the OCL/Coupe de France. This will get me ‘noticed’ by some mainland French clubs, and I’ll move over there to manage a low level (6th or 7th tier) club. I’ll work my way south towards the Pyrenees, having a go at an Andorran club or two, before crossing the border and taking over a club somewhere in Catalonia. From there i’ll hopefully get the job at Barcelona B (never managed a youth side before, should be great fun), then if i’m lucky i could do a Pep and get promoted to the first team. Loading times are absolutely mental (maybe 5-10 minutes per day) but i just leave it loading in the background on holiday overnight, then get a few games in through the day.

so I downloaded the editor for FM-18 and have tweaked Singh and a couple of the others that should be rated better. Not surprisingly I have managed to get some good results for the nix, missed the top 6 for the 2017/18 season but have started with 3 wins and 1 loss from first 4 games in the 18/19 season.

Another big season with myself wanting to finally win the 2 cups that have invaded me thus far, the Australia Federation Cup and the A-League Grand Final. Change of system this year, going with a 4231 with McGlinchey playing much of a collapsed winger on the left, tucking in and making a form of box midfield which we can see teams like Man. City and Tottenham do. This allowed me to unleash McGarry as a wing back attack on the left where he was amazing, racking in the assists. I’ve always seen McGarry more of a winger but with Doyle moving to Brisbane Roar in the off season I had to trust McGarry and knew you’d get the best out of him in a system where he could attack - even if Tim Payne had to cover him 24/7! McGarry has now overtaken Wynne as starting LB for the NT. Brought in experienced CB Moberg from Sweden to take over from Durante, he took a while to settle in but once he was gelling and learnt the language he was rock solid. Cacace got his chance after many injuries and scored on debut in holding midfield! He would then keep new addition Clayton Lewis on the bench. Berishat bagged 16 goals up top in an inconsistent season while I have managed to develop Rogerson quite well over the years and he is set for the Eredivisie this off season. Somehow lost to Maitland FC a Aussie state league team in the semi final of the cup!! And once again only managed 2nd to Perth who came 1st in the regular season, completely dominating. I lost 2-1 to Adelaide in semi finals after beating them 2-0 8 days earlier in the regular season…

For the NT I have changed to a 442, taking inspiration from RB Leipzig of last season - a team I tactical admired. I have Thomas playing brilliantly in that Left midfield role which becomes a playmaking ’10’ in possession which Emil Forsberg played to such good effect. Tuiloma is excelling in a roaming midfield bossing players, while I’m still in the hunt for an adequate strike partner for Wood. Contenders are Bevan, Mata, an out of position Barbourouses/Rojas or even Kayne Vincent as he is a great defensive forward

Decided to resign as boss as Phoenix now though. Want to speed up the game a little bit and so will just be turning my attention on getting the All Whites to the World Cup and the u23’s to the Olympics!

Below is a picture of one my first Nix lineups contrasted with the lineup of what would become my last game for the club.

Thanks mate! Yeah I did quite a lot of pre game editing just buffing up alot of PA/CA for kiwis 23 and under as some were way off. However I started before Singh's big break through and actually had seen more in Rogerson so I think his PA was a little higher than Singh's. However, Singh has developed well, really focusing on him with tutoring and individual trainings. I tried to offer him to Europe but no offers came in. Again I started before Cacace broke through and I dont remember editing him at all but he starts with a decent PA/CA anyway as after some intensive trainings he is a good squad player for the Nix, but may just fall short of of NT spot. Singh, Cacace and Rogerson are key parts of my Olympic squad though! I have missed a lot of players in the pre game editor though as McCowatt really came alive after I had started and would loved to have had him, as well as Collier and I missed adding Ryan Thomas to be able to play CM/CDM as he is stuck out on the wings now and I lack top centre mids for the NT. Singh will come good for the NT but just doesn't fit a 442 very well, so I may have to change something here!

Playing in that RB Leipzig 442 esque formation (mentioned above) has resulted in high risk football. Crushing PNG 11-0 was something I have never experienced. However, lost to South Korea in a friendly 3-1, but experimented a little - safe to say Kayne Vincent is not up to standard but it looks like Myer Bevan will be Wood’s strike partner. I always imaged Wood to lead the line but he is doing very well as the deeper forward. Gets on the ball a lot more and his great team work and work rate make him a great defensive forward. This now makes sense as he is our best player.

Took the u23s to the Olympics with the 3 exceptions being the core of Reid, Thomas and Wood and after doing very well in group play we topped our group. Highlight was a 5-2 win over France where Thomas absoluetly stole the show. Although this was all out done in the Qrt Final when we lost 3-2 to Argentina when we were 2-0 up! We were expecting to play Nigeria however they somehow they topped there group over Argentina meaning we played 2nd place Argentina…

Over notes include: After 3 years of negotiating Adam Mitchell has decided to represent us after initially choosing Croatia. Whilst Michael Boxall has been forced to retire at age 31 after a cruciate ligament injury during training! Singh had been injured all year but slowly came back into the fold. Had a very good Olympic campaign with a goal over France and Argentina. Want to implement Elijah Just this year too after he missed 9 months of last year with an injury.

World Cup Qualifiers plus Confederation Cup is to come in the following year!!

Doing pretty well in this so far! Finished in third position in my first season with Baco, which was considered a big overachievement by the media so I was pretty proud. Five points off evential champions Thio Sport, would have won the league if I won against them on one of the final matchdays.

I was given absolutely no leverage by the board though so I ditched Baco to go to Thio Sport, who had a couple of incredible newgens. Won the league on goal difference in my first season, and won the league cup on penalties - qualifying me for both the OCL and the Coupe de France (all overseas territories of France have their cup winner qualify). OCL didn't go so well, finishing second in my group before losing 3-1 to Southern on aggregate in the quarters, but the Coupe de France... we started in the 7th round (256 teams) and beat 5th-tier Mulhouse 3-0, against all odds. Then came another 5th-tier team in Saint-Amand, who we beat 3-1 after extra time. I wondered how far we could keep this going, but i didn't expect to be drawn away against fudgeing PSG. We lost 4-1, getting dominated by what was essentially their under 19s, although a few big guns like Krychowiak, Sebastian Coates and Javier Pastore played. Really happy with the goal which came in the 37th minute to make it 2-1, giving us some far-fetched hope. The TV money increased our income by at least 10,000%.

I took advantage of the exposure and left to Carquefou, another French 5th-tier side. Didn't do too well and almost got sacked after a season but surprisingly I was offered the job by Real Sociedad's B side. Took it, brought over a few New Caledonian talents, and here I am now, in the Spanish third tier.

Bit of an update. Played a very experimental squad for the WC qualifiers shown below - Singh taking centre stage and being head and shoulders above the rest bar Tyler Boyd who impressed. Still problems are arising at club level. Mata and Signh not getting minutes at the Nix despite their potential, Patterson has priced himself out of any deal and I have now had to tell him he won’t be the All Whites until he finds a club - hopefully that wakes him up. Dane Ingham and Brotherton also without clubs and not having any suitors. All these players were men I was hoping to somewhat build around which sucks.

Unfortuantly Themi is retiring at the end of the year and thus will miss the WC, so I won’t be taking him to the Confederation Cup. I did give him the armband for his last match as professional in a 2-1 win over PNG though.

But it is Confederation Cup time!! We have been handed a tough group but we are confident, much better performances reverting back to my beloved 433 formation. Our group consists of South Korea, Portugal and Colombia! Hoping to get 4 points from here that could maybe get us through.

Was actually pretty tough choosing the squad as there is much competition for spaces. The saddest came from leaving Rogerson behind who has impressed and he even chatted to me about how upset he was. We just have too many wingers, especially with this update not having Thomas as a central midfielder!

Above: Rotated Squad for WC Qualifiers

The squad heading to Qatar is below:

Afternoon all. I haven't played FM since the 15 edition as I threw away my laptop and have since replaced it with a terrible one. Went out at lunchtime today and bought a new laptop and the first thing I am doing tonight is purchasing FM.

Will have to refamiliarise myself with how to do all the addins such as facepacks and then get my head around all the changes that I'm sure have been made since FM15. Here's hoping the missus doesn't shut me down in the first month!

With all those leagues added, how long does it take for say a week to pass in game? I enjoy playing with a huge custom DB but eventually get bored of waiting. I'd love to be able to tinker with my squad, view scout reports and similar actions while the game was processing in the background.

Edit: I haven't bought FM in a couple of years hence the question.

Way too long to be practical. I just holiday up to every game and go do something else while it runs in the background, sometimes when I go to sleep I'll holiday for a few weeks just to get the game going forward. A week would maybe take 25 mins?

Picture it. You need a win in the league and you're 4-0 up at half time against Hull who are 2nd in the league. Your new signing has got off the mark for the club and your misfiring striker has broken his drought with a first half double.

Game crashes.

Relaunch and restart said match. Lose after being up 3-1 early in the second half, no goals for said new signing or misfiring striker, and your best player gets a 7 month back injury.

Nightmare.
