Don't worry they will soon be gone. Value of the company has gone from 2.5b to 1b in 3 years.

They've just halved the entry price for subscribers. They are flailing.

Someone mentioned that when they got rid of Sky, the technician said "you and everybody else" as he tossed the decoder onto a huge pile of removed decoders in the back of his van.

It's over folks, just as many of us have been predicting on here for sometime now.

That’s a real short term benefit. Currently I can use Netflix on my tv via my PS4. But there are several other ways to easily access Netflix on your tv like Apple TV or even just by having a ‘smart TV’ - these will very quickly become commonplace. Sky are showing they’re still several steps behind here.

Being an aggregator of content is an interesting move. Could work, but obviously wouldn’t be as profitable. This and the slight unbundling of their basic package is a pretty good sign that sky are finally setting real about their diminishing monopoly position.

As much as we all like to have a go at Sky, the Commonwealth Games coverage on TVNZ has been almost unwatchable. Ads in the middle of races or just missing entire races completely etc. Tried to watch the triathlon yesterday and only got to see about half of it. Perhaps once the athletics starts they'll still be cutting to ads in the middle of the 100m races.

I know it's necessary to fund the rights but live sport is very different to a show they can just restart at the point they left. Isn't there some way they could fit them after or in between races instead of having to miss half of them? Is missing half of each game what we have to look forward to with the Rugby World Cup now?

What do they do between races? Have some boring analysis? Could get rid of that, would’ve thought there is plenty of time for ads to fit in if they’re more clever about it.

Instead of playing ads during the breaks between quarters at the netball, they are playing them while play is ongoing. So you come back and have missed a bunch of action and the score has changed with no explanation.

It's super sharkty.

That's ridiculous. In the men's triathlon yesterday they went to ads early on in the run when there was a group together after the bike, missed what would have been at least 1km of it then when it came back the eventual winner was miles ahead and we'd missed his break away.

Interesting that his happens after Fellet stepped down. Makes me wonder if some involved in sky had this strategy worked out for a while, but he was always holding it back or even vetoed it. Whenever he spoke it was always obvious that he was a dinosaur.

Tegal you will be pleased to know that I have quit SKY.

What broke the camels back was after 15 years I saw them offering the Joseph Parker for free to new subscribers

After 15 years of never asking for nothing, paying tens of thousands of dollars, I thought that it would be a fair one off request.

They did not

So they can get fudgeed

I hate free to air sport, especially TVNZ.  I still remember them going to another programme in the middle of a Chatham Cup Final penalty shoot out.

Watching the Womens Track Cycling points race and we missed seeing a rider taking a lap on the field.  Potentially the most eventful thing that will happen all race and we were on an ad break.  It is the equivalent of missing a goal in the football.  I hate this so much.

so much this, the ad breaks on all the TVNZ comm games channels is simply horrid. Poorly timed and over the top. This is why live sport should never be on free-to-air TV!

TVNZ & ANZ wish to seriously apologise to all those viewers watching the full time ANZ self promotions that every 10 minutes get interrupted with a 2 minute programme break. "We know you would rather watch our blatant self promotions and some other promotions instead of the annoying sports. But that is the nature of our contract."

And don't worry Sky DO exactly the same on pretty much all of their own channels.

Once again MySky doesn't consider that the game has a chance of going to extra-time and penalties.  On my recordings both Russia-Spain and Croatia-Denmark stop recording just before the penalty shoot-out.   I don't think I should have to do anything special when I select these programs to record

I had no problems with series link and extending by 20 mins.

Yeah I have the setting where it automatically records an extra 10mins, plus on top of that for games like this I push the “extend 20mins” button whenever I set a game to record.

Even then it doesn’t cover the entirety of games sometimes.

It’s really annoying, how hard is it for them to hire someone on minimum wage to watch the games and extend the programming if it’s going to go over time.

Particularly annoys me with baseball. Try watching a game for 3 hours only for the recording to cut out with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th inning.

WTF! I haven't watched my recorded round of 16 games yet, so didn't know. Ridiculous.

I seem to remember Sky having the capability to 'extend' the program so that MySky recorded the full game in the past. Am I wrong?

Did the extra 20 minute thing for todays game.  That means that the recording stopped in the middle of the penalty shoot-out!!!

How is that implemented?  Speaking to Sky they may have implied something similar although did not give me details so I could check more on that,

Might be something to do with your settings?  Or do you get sky through the old telstra/vodafone cable? I have had no issue with the full games including penalties being recorded.  I got the full shootout plus all the post match stuff, and then 20 mins extra at the end.

4 years ago, I was with Telstra and had their box and had this problem.

I rang them and they told me that they weren't able to do anything about it as they depended on Sky sending the updated program details through to them automatically at the moment in time that the game was determined to be extended. I.e. they needed to have a live feed of programming data from Sky for them to be able to extend their own program settings. Instead, they just had a daily feed.

This suggested that Sky did have the ability to extend the program and therefore allow their customers to record the extra time

I cannot recall how it went in 2010 or 2006

I wonder if sky just aren't bothering or whether they can't?

They manage to do it all the time for cricket etc.

it’s only sports they don’t care about that this seems to happen to. Most frustratingly for me, football and baseball.

I have a question for anyone watching on Prime, is the coverage ok? Is it HD, are there ads during the game?

I figure I can save $40 by turning off sky sports and my HD ticket for the rest of the tournament

Hi guys,

I have been trying to get to the bottom of the problem here - I have been in touch with the programming team and a few other people within SKY to see if I can get it resolved.

It would help if I can get some more info from those who are experiencing the issue.

If you are viewing the SKY Sports SD or HD feed?

If you are a Vodafone Customer

If you are watching via Prime

I'm hoping we can get this sorted for the Quarter-finals games onwards!!

The box has MySky+ on it, I expect it is HD.  I would either set it to record via the electronic guide or via app on my phone.  The Guide and App both show time as 0130-0430 or 0530-0830, and that is what duly gets recorded which is approx until the end of extra time.  If I  extend the recording beforehand, then it will record to 450, 850 respectively which was the middle of the shoot-out.

I'm not sure what a Vodafone customer has to do with it but I will point out that as I don't use the OnDemand services my box is not connected to the internet.  My suspicion is that Sky are only sending the decision to extend via the internet and not via the satellite ...

Hi Chopah, not experiencing any problems (as mentioned above), but thought it might help to have info of those that it worked for too.

-SD Feed

-Vodafone customer (Waikato based, so just for billing, not being serviced by the old telstra/vodafone cable TV setup down there)

Sky Sport 4, not Prime.

Hope you can help figure it out for everyone affected!

Hey guys,

Have not been able to get the info above to the programming department as I was off work on Friday - Suggest for tomorrow morning's game that you record the block after the game if the scheduled block won't cover extra time and/or penalties.

Hope to have answers back soon.

Mine did it for CRO v RUS 1/4 Final, stopped in the 119th minute as Modric lofted a ball into the Russian box.

Taped Sky Sports 4 HD

Not a Vodafone customer

Asked SKYNZ and SKYSPORTNZ on Twitter and so far no reply, have resent tweet, in between times, both those accounts have been tweeting, so they will have seen the tweet, but chosing to ignore it.

Bottom line - we shouldn't have to additionally tape an extra 20mins, and in this case, 20mins would have been very close to the end of the Pen shoot-outs, if the feed stopped at the 119th min.
