Winner at 92 mins.

Europa League group game. First group points for Beşiktaş, so well eliminated as with a round to go, Sporting Braga and Wolves through to next round from this group.

Even though Boyd isn't getting a lot of game time, he's still in and around the bench/match day squad and, if Besiktas keep on doing well, this could mean he gets to play in the UCL next year!

I'm thinking probably his first game in the UK??

Full game in a 2-0 loss to 4th tier 24 Erzincanspor in a 2nd leg Cup tie.

However Beşiktaş win overall on aggregate 3-2, to progress to the next round.

Boyd only seems to be starting at the moment, when 1st choice players are rested.

Gençlerbirliği down to 9 men from 36 mins, after two send offs.

Bad week for Beşiktaş.

First lost at home in the league to top of the table Sivasspor 1-2. Sivasspor played 25 mins with 10 men.

Beşiktaş drop to 7th in the league.

Then today lost at home to 2nd tier BB Erzurumspor (2nd in the 2nd tier admittedly) 2-3 in Turkish Cup. Round of 16, played over 2 ties. Lost 1st leg by same score, so out 4-6 on aggregate.

Boyd an unused sub in both games. He's still to open his account for Beşiktaş.

Scored 6 goals last season (only played 2nd half of that season) in Turkey for Ankaragücü, from only 14 games.

Is being absolutely shat on by every Besiktas supporter I've come across - bad career move?

Subbed on at 78 mins in a 2-2 draw with top of the table Trabzonspor

Beşiktaş (7th) were leading 2-1 when he came on for Kevin-Prince Boateng.

Seems Boyd has been either an unused sub, or getting only 10-15 mins of late.

First quiet season (with a big club admittedly), after being a bit of star out on loan at smaller clubs Tondela (Portugal) & then Ankaragücü (Turkey - in relegation zone this season)

Watched the match, his crossing was very poor for a wide attacking player, though a poor cross did luckily get them the penalty to go up early.

Does move well and can see why can get in good positions to score, but didn't seem a stand out for them.

Plays the full game in what was probably a one-sided affair. EDIT: A nice 0-0 draw for Boyd's lot.

Galatasaray outshow Besiktas 16-3 and had 62% possession and completed twice as many passes.

Besiktas currently sit 5th, 5 points away from fourth place.

Starting last game of the season against Gençlerbirliği (12th)

Beşiktaş will finish min 4th, and have locked in an Europa League qualifying spot.

Technically they could finish level on points with 2nd placed Trabzonspor, and grab an UCL qualifying spot, but they would need to win today, Trabzonspor to lose, then get a swing of 14 in GD!

Boyd's previous Turkish side Ankaragücü will finish last and be relegated.

Fair play to him, after struggling earlier at Beşiktaş seems to be finishing season strongly.

Qualification for European competitions[edit]

Qualification for European competitions is as follows:

champions qualify for the group stage of the Champions League, runners-up qualify for the second qualifying round of the Champions League, third place qualifies for the third qualifying round of the Europa League, and fourth place qualifies for the second qualifying round of the same competition.

A fifth spot is given to the winner of the Turkish Cup, who qualify for the play-off round of the Europa League. If the Turkish Cup winner has already qualified for European competition through their league finish, the next highest placed club in the league takes their place.

Interesting trivia on the Turkish League

A total of 68 clubs have competed in the Süper Lig, but only six have won the title to date: Galatasaray (22), Fenerbahçe (19), Beşiktaş (15), Trabzonspor (6), Bursaspor (1) and İstanbul Başakşehir (1).

So this season was one of those rare occasions, when league was not won by any of the Big 3 clubs. İstanbul Başakşehir as first time champions, and Trabzonspor (who haven't won title since 1984) were 2nd. Of Big 3, only Beşiktaş finished in the top 5.

Was in Turkey in 1998. We came off a 3 day cruise around the Aegean into the coastal tourist town Fethiye. That day it was confirmed Galatasaray had pipped Fenerbahçe to win the title. Lots of car tooting and waving of yellow-red flags. Some of our crew were Galatasaray fans, including this tiny 5 foot guy (with a lifetime of dentist avoidance), that later that evening we found we could easily lift above our heads up towards the swirling disco ball/ceiling fan. He was one happy chappy. Come May in Turkey she's pretty hot. A big boozy shirts off evening, culminating in a group skinny dip in the Aegean. Ah the memories. Colonel Malone would have been turning in his Dardenelles grave.

True, but second place Trasbonspor was handed a two year ban by UEFA for infringing fair play financial rules. Therefore Boyd’s club who finished third move up and will play in the CL qualifiers.

Actually, neither of you is 100% right - there's an asterisk on CL participation for the second Turkish team pending the CAS decision after Trabzonspor appealed the UEFA decision. The hearing was last week, and the decision is expected by the end of the month.
