Looks like Auckland is losing the points: https://www.nzfootball.co.nz/newsarticle/98484

"As New Zealand Football was notified of the matter outside the 48-hour time limit afforded to clubs to protest a result, New Zealand Football did not initially issue a retrospective punishment instead advising the player was ineligible to play in future fixtures."

"citing that the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players is strict on matters of eligibility irrespective of any time limits set out in the competition regulations"

Essentially the RSTP overrules the competition rules. Some interesting thoughts at the end of this though:

  1. What stops teams from sitting on ineligibility information before appealing at the end of a tournament?
  2. Auckland self-reported. What's the incentive to do this in future? If they kept their mouths closed it likely never would have been picked up. (not proposing they should escape punishment, just interested to hear what people think)

Auckland did NOT self report in any way shape or form.

Yes they did! They went to NZF when they realised the mistake.

100% incorrect.  The error was found by a party of outside of AFF or Eastern Suburbs and was reported to AFF via NZF.

Chopah - says who? My understanding was that wasn't the case. Happy to be proven wrong but I have it on pretty good word.

I don't mean to be arrogant and I can't rat out my source but your source is wrong - I can't delve into that anymore but "My Balls, My Word".

I think your source might be the person who got wind of it and stirred the pot with the other teams. This happened after Suburbs self-reported.

To back up Chopah, AFF definitely didn't self-report, frankly they are not good enough to even manage that, they were caught out by an external person.

And to then throw Suburbs under the bus in the latest statement is a really classless way to try and excuse yourself from any responsibility.

Shame on them for stuffing up, shame on NZF for not enforcing the rules and regulations, and having to be forced into doing the right thing by the other 6 Federations competing in the ISPS Premiership.

One thing that seems to have been lost in all of the debate over the points deduction (or not)is the quality that this Auckland team brought to the competition. I feel for the players who should be looking forward to a home final. Whilst I agree that NZ football had to rule the way they did frankly it's wrong for players to be penalized for an administrative error, especially one that they didn't gain any advantage from.

I don’t think anyone is saying that they aren’t worthy! They are a bloody good squad.

Watching the games yesterday, Canterbury still have that edge over the rest I think. Will be interesting to see whether Longo plays in the final - being so close to the W-League... the girls from Auckland have already flown out right?

In football players always get penalised for admin errors

apparently, part of Longo's deal is that she could stay until the final before heading to Victory - she may not start but pretty useful player to have coming of the bench

I think you’ll find that Canterbury would still be hosting the final after the weekends results. It is unfortunate for the Auckland players but let’s not take away from the fact that the Pride haven’t dropped points outside of the Auckland match and are deserving home finalists
