So wonder what Steve Taylor and Matti Steinmen are up to now that the ISL is over. Be super frustrating if another A league club picked up any of these two.

Jacob Tratt also finished there.

Roy Krishna, David Williams and Dylan Fox look like they still have knockout finals to play.

Iirc both Matti and Stevie signed multi year deals, so are probably heading to the beach. Would love to loan one of them for the rest of the season tho.

Not the Nix, but the Knights:
Paul Nevin, ex manager of the Nix's A-League predessors, the NZ Knights in 2006 has been building a very successful coaching career in the UK.
After spells on the coaching staff at Brighton, Norwich and the England national team, Paul is now assistant to David Moyes at West Ham:

That's odd; don't I remember that Roly never really enjoyed his time here and got out as soon as he got an offer from elsewhere?

Pretty sure it was just his wife who wanted to leave, said that Wellington was too small and quiet. To be fair the only time I ever saw them was in the food court at North City mall in Porirua, which would make any footballer and WAG question why they were there. As for Roly wanting to leave I think that was purely down to having an unhappy wife. I remember him signing a contract extension in 2015 and a subsequent article quoting Roly saying that he didn't plan on leaving the club until he could help bring us a title. Obviously didn't work out, but maybe if his wife didn't mind it here he would still be here and he would be a nix legend

Wow, a very candid account of what the dangers associated with choosing football as a career can be. Two things really come to mind: first, you shouldn't have to sacrifice your education to pursue football - ever.
You could be the next Ronaldo but you're only one bad injury away from potentially never playing again or being limited to the lower leagues and therefore less income potential.
I'm surprised Caira's UK team (Villa was it? Can't remember) didn't provide their academy players with some sort in-schooling options. Secondly, more support should be given to players by the PFA during their career, including access to education, post-fooball career-counselling etc. I really agree with Caira's old coach that success in football is down to 90% mental strength. At that level many people have talent, but it's those who are able to push themselves to the limit and deal with the uncertainty that ultimately make it.
Also Ernie comes across as a bit of a dick. I mean Doyle was doing OK, but to completely cut off a reserve player like that? I guess it's the business of football...

Been trying to remember the name of a youth guy who was around a few years ago. Seemed to have the talent but had an awful attitude.
Paul Ifill in particular seemed to have an issue with him if I remember correctly.

Can someone remind me of his name?

Weird. Not someone like Sean Lovemore?
Rogerson, Max Mata or Joel Stevens?
Or James Musa?
Hadn't heard anything about any of them having poor attitudes tho.

Ben Sigmund came up to Hamilton to help host our clubs quiz night last Saturday as part of his rep job.

Managed to get him to play for our Over 35 team, one half with us, one with the opposition. We were 1 - 0 up with him, and went on to score a further 5 in the second half against him... which he heard about all night.

Top bloke, got involved in our fine session and shared some good stories. Great ambassador for his company and football in general.

See that Darije Kalezić's MVV are 13th in the Dutch 2nd tier. With 4 games to go they are out of playoff contention. However they did beat Woud's Almere City 2-0 back in March.

Continuing Dutch-Nix links, Phoenix legend Jeffrey Sarpong, is now plying his trade in the Lithuanian top tier with 2nd placed Panevėžys. Sarpong no goals after 6 games. Summer league by the looks. Prior to coming to the Baltics this year, he hadn't played since being at Xanthi in Greece in early 2019.

See that Roly's Curaçao are top (GD) of the of their CONCACAF WC qualifying group, after only 2 games (both wins). He played in a March 2-1 win over Cuba. 'Aussie/South Korean' Gus Hiddink is their coach!

First phase qualifying, with 6 group winners through to the next round.  Guatemala (also 2 wins to date) loom as the main group rivals for Curaçao.

The discussion about where the NZ Nix players come from motivated me to check where the former players came through. I have included players who made at least one appearance in the last 10 seasons and excluded players that did not live much in NZ prior to the Phoenix (eg Durante/Moss/McGlinchey). * denotes only played in FFA Cup

Auckland: Adams (last played 2013/14); Boxall (2014/15); Dimairo* (2015/16); Doyle (2018/19); Hicks (2014/15); Hogg (2012/13); Lindsay (2012/13); Lovemore (2010/11); McCowatt (2019/20); Patterson (2017/18); Singh (2018/19); Smith (2017/18);

Waikato: Boyd (2014/15); Lochhead (2012/13); Rogerson (2017/18); Rojas (2010/11)

Hawkes Bay: Biss (2012/13); Paston (2012/13)

Wanganui: Musa (2010/11)

Wellington: Barbarouses (2016/17); Bertos (2013/14); Blake* (2015/16); Brown (2011/12); Cacace (2019/20); Elliott (2010/11); Gulley (2018/19); Watson (2017/18); Wood*(2017/18);

Tasman: Brockie (2014/15); Elliot (2019/20); Marowa* (2017/18)

Canterbury: Sigmund (2015/16); Tongue* (2017/18)

Otago: Spoonley (2013/14); Stevens (2015/16)

Putting to bed the myth that footballers can't be smart. But yes any 'personal wealth' Brown now has, will very much depend on what his current shareholding is in All Birds. It could actually be very much a minority shareholding now, after bringing in outside investor capital.

Still it won't surprise if Rob Morrison had at least tried a chat to him, about a little Nix buy in.

I'm sure there are. Actually the AWs who tread the US College route pre pro football, all seem to do okay back there post football.

I'm sure that sort of info, is given to the parents of young Ole kids for example, when thinking about sending their kid off Stateside. Important given the slim odds of their offspring ever cracking the football big time. A US education and connections formed there, can lead to opportunities down the track in the world's biggest economy.

Flamini was minted while still playing though.  Earning just SLIGHTLY more then Brown.  I saw an All Birds ad on BT Sport during the washout in Brissy, was odd to see Wellington and hear his voice on UK tv.
