But would having her there really add much to NZF's costs.

Based in Holland, maybe she drove to the Algarve with her football kit and bathers. Or took the bus.

Tall poppy syndrome alive and well.  Looks like we havent yet evolved enough to celebrate those who have served us for a long time and are happier hunting around for any   scrap as an excuse or spin for  petty sniping.

Its always good to put aside the larger body of work so we can feel smug whinging about the small stuff

Sarah is the second-highest Football Ferns goal-scorer of all time, so certainly deserved a special send-off...

Our top Ferns goalscorer of all time, Amber Hearn announced her retirement the week before, having not recovered from injuries suffered a year ago.

Shame she didn't get a send-off but each case is different - maybe she wasn't fit enough to take part or wasn't interested. I don't think she ever played under Tom Sermanni due to injury anyway.

With your team's two top goal-scorers retiring, that takes a lot of goals out of a side.

Need the younger ones to step up now....

The international future of a rising football star eligible to play for New Zealand and Australia could spark a trans-Tasman tug of war between the co-hosts of the 2023 Women's World Cup, three years out from the tournament.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/women-in-sport/124833204/football-ferns-could-go-500-days-without-a-game-before-tokyo-olympics

FYI. Matildas got spanked 5-2 by Germany (world no 2), and 5-0 by the Dutch (no 4), in the last 5 days. Presumably without at least some of their W League players (ie mostly just a Euro based contingent) - but a heavy warning sign Olympics will be tough for the FFS esp without many/any warmup games.

China & Chile have grabbed final Olympic spots in last few days. The 12 teams now confirmed: Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China PR, Great Britain, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Sweden, USA and Zambia.

Women's and men's Olympic football draw streaming live here 8 pm NZT Wednesday (10 am CET Wednesday 21st in Europe) :
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpcTrCXblq78GZrTUTLWeBw
Info on the draw:
https://www.fifa.com/who-we-are/news/teams-ranked-and-allocated-for-tokyo-2020-olympic-football-draws
There's an amazingly big NZ involvement with the draw with the women's draw being conducted by Kiwi Sarai Bareman, FIFA Chief Women’s Football Officer.
And Ryan Nelsen will be assisting Jaime Yarza, FIFA Director of Tournaments, with the men's draw.
With the 12 women's finalists arranged in four pots of three teams based on FIFA rankings, each group to be made up of a team from each pot (but no two sides from the same confederation) and Australia one of three teams in Pot 3 (we are Pot 4) ,there's actually a good chance we will be drawn with the Aussies.

Told ya!
Seems a tough group but all the groups are tough in the women's tournament with only three groups of four teams.
Chile and Zambia, like us, occupy the position of being the weaker teams in the other two groups.
Group E is also tough with Japan, Canada, GB
And Group F with Brazil, Netherlands, China.
https://www.fifa.com/womensolympic/news/draws-set-path-to-tokyo-2020-gold#olympic-draw
"Group G in the women’s tournament looks immeasurably mouth-watering. Not only does it feature the two co-hosts of the next FIFA Women’s World Cup™, Australia and New Zealand, but it also gives USA the chance for Olympic revenge over a Sweden side that eliminated them from Rio 2016 on penalties."

Bit of a reality check for her. Thinking she would just walk into the side not a great mind set to head away with in first place.

I’ll admit I haven’t watched the FFs a huge amount, by she hasn’t struck me as that good to be fair. Remember at least one cross she came out for and completely fluffed in a game.

She may be an “International” keeper but in many of the top international sides she would likely be well down the peaking order. So yes reaks a little of arrogance from afar (and a one off article) to just turn up and expect to be the No 1 choice, when the other keeper had been at the club for years.

She seemed to be in France for long time without being a big success.

Alfeld and Keat 2 young keepers with maybe more upside.

perhaps a kit change to black shorts?  would still look classy, and perhaps a show of support and good faith?

Ferns first pool opponent in Tokyo, Matildas lost 3-2 overnight to Denmark.
https://us.soccerway.com/matches/2021/06/10/world/friendly-women/denmark/australia/3509057/

Is 3rd quality European opponent (all losses), Australia has played in last few months. I'm sure USA & Sweden are busy playing warmup games. Actually rather strangely Matildas play Sweden in a few days in another friendly.

Ferns are really going to be on a hiding to nothing in Japan. Games against 3 far better teams, who are also going to have the benefit of being well prepared. I'm sure Sermanni & co will have low expectations.

Two of the Ferns pool opponents Sweden & Australia, drew 0-0 overnight in a friendly.
https://us.soccerway.com/matches/2021/06/15/world/friendly-women/sweden/australia/3508046/

Likely they will fight out 2nd place in the pool behind USA. Though with 3 pools of 4 teams (12 sides), a couple of 3rd placed teams will go through to the quarters. So all teams will be chasing goals against the Ferns, as making quarters could come down to GD.
