Would love a trip to Nelson! Although there’s still a long way to go in both leagues. The New World Championship will be a bit more interesting in a few weeks at the end of round 1 once everyone has played each other once

Top 5 from mpl this year make Southern League for 2021 and 2022 along with top 3 of Southern Premier League for 2021.

Bottom 3 mpl join top 3 ccl and they have a one round league.
1st place within this new league gets automatic promotion into Southern League for 2022.
2nd place has playoff vs winner of Nelson Div 1 assuming they have confirmed they wish to be considered for the playoff.

No relegation from Southern League mainland teams in 2021 because the Southern League jumps from 8 teams in 2021 to 10 teams in 2022.

In 2022 Mpl and ccl no longer exist but become a joined grade with all those who dont make Southern League. Will likely become a 10 team league depending on what teams make Southern League.

I agree a little confusing, but I also think this sets up a really interesting end to the season... some of those playoff games could become the games to watch.. Although based on current results, my sons team wont make the qualifying league anyways!

I think it’s the top 2 from the Southern Qualifying League as it’s known at the end of the season (bottom 3/top3).

Next season the remaining 4 from this plus 5 from CCL move into the Mainland Qualifying League
As previous said do not forgot about factoring in the winners of both the Nelson Bays Div 1 and Marlborough Div 1 league if one or both wish to play-off for a place in the Southern League in 2022.

That's right, what if Nelson don't make the top 5? Are the likes of Parklands/Burwood/Western planning on a Nelson trip?

Or does Nelson have a permanent spot in the 5 in the Southern League?
I guess they would simply have to. Hopefully the club will maintain a spot in the Southern League on it's own merit, would be unfair to others if they were just gifted a spot because their geography was an issue for the lower tier. To be honest the Nomads result and the Selwyn result were really poor, they've effectively played their three worst opponents and only come out with 4 points, oh dear...

Wow. Anyone at the game last night? What's the biggest score in the MPL AW82? I think early days of Woolston they got pumped by a few, and surely Tech have smashed a few teams by plenty.

Top three looking very good, will probably contend for the league title and in the greater scheme of things, the two National League spots available to the South Island. Suburbs decent and will make the SI league but seemingly not too consistent... maybe another year.

At the halfway point, is there a degree of concern starting to set in on those in the middle? On results we can probably say that Selwyn and Halswell are going to be 7th and 8th, but who is going to be 6th? 21 points on offer and with some close results in round 1, what is the final table going to look like?

Why not have a go at picking the final table. No cost, no prizes, just the mana.

As you can see I am not a big poster on this page, I used to love following all the banter around the Coastal train and must say how quiet the page has been since they have lost their voice.
Saying that it was a good game against Coastal at the weekend and we came away with a hard fought point. Having reached the halfway point of the season we along with Coastal find ourselves looking good for a top 5 position.
On a different note I thought that in the past you could not be an employee of mainland football and be involved with a club in that league. Clearly that is not the case now as Lee Padmore is registered to play with Selwyn United. Is this right ?
What are other peoples thoughts on this ?

Yer, once people got shot down for cheering on their team it certainly did quiet down. I'm still here tho, however have learnt my lesson about singing too loud before personal attacks kick in.
I've never heard of a rule about employees not playing in the league. It certainly does open the door for conflicts of interest in the case of judicial issues or illegal players however as long as there is a process that removes that conflict if it arises, then I'm ok with it. How he's good enough to play Premier League is another issue... Don't forget there's another Mainland employee playing as well, although he seems slightly more qualified for the on-field role.

Rambo you may be getting confused as there was a rule that the Head Coach of Canterbury United could not be involved with a club, as Vim says plenty of Mainland staff run out for a club on a Saturday.

Copied from Mainland Football Facebook page, was posted yesterday.

NEWS | Mainland Football are pleased to announce Aaron Clapham as Federation Player Development Manager.
Aarons role will be to work with clubs to develop existing and new player development programmes and drive the on grass standards across the region. Mainland Football Director of Football Lee Padmore said, "Aaron is a great character to have onboard and him filling the position is a testament to the work he has done across a sustained period of time at Cashmere Technical. Aaron's understanding of the local, national and international game will be a huge driving force in helping the clubs improve their delivery level and giving players the best possible experiences."

Top notch English Cup win by Burwood over Coastal. 2-2 draw at full time then 5-4 to Burwood on penalties. A good game from both teams, some cracker goals. Pity it went to penalties. I think probably Burwood had more chances over the game but Coastal controlled the ball more. Now Burwood have Universities in the quarter finals on the 22 June.

Yes well done Le Mur, you can feel proud of your team. Good luck going forward, I hope you win it!

Burwood was my first club back in the day, I was in the 8th Grade E team. My dad always said I was in the E team because he registered me late but now I am not so sure.
