Well I think this week shows that Div1 is likely to replace one North Shore team (Northern Rovers ) with another when we see Albany ,Takapuna and East Coast Bays all in the top 4 along with Waiheke  not saying much for those south of the bridge in Div 1 this year anyways .

As for picks well I got a draw until half time in Albany /Waiheke but then didn’t that change .
Bays ,Waitemata and Taka seemed easy Win picks I did (true) think Metro were also a good at home side pick for Friday so 4 out of 5 is a pass .

If (when) Northern Rovers get relegated I can see a lot of those guys going to Bays/Albany/Taka, as I don’t reckon those teams will be good enough for Northern League, and likewise Northern Rovers’ players won’t stick around. Albany and Takapuna in particular are full of guys dumped from Forrest Hill as they’re Div 1 quality players, not to mention they’ll have to recruit for the age requirements in the league.

Heard a rumour that half of the Glenfield Players that were around before the merger were all asked to leave by Adam Dickinson (Not sure if true).

I think the bulk lot have ended up at Albany with a few dropping out to play NRF Social Leagues.

If true, then it would be funny if Albany went up with the bulk lot of ex-glenfield players asked to leave by Dicko and Rovers got relegated. But again, this is me hearing things from a lot of people.

Just for this thread as well ,
Players from the Shore will show up at any club that gets promoted especially to Prems would you want many from NR if they got relegated ?
Milicich will have loads he can call if he gets Taka up to Prems even his son might switch from Birko to be coached by his old man again

Bucklands Beach finally tick one up in the win column!

They can still technically  avoid the drop to NRFL 2, but they would need to win their remaining matches against Tauranga, Waiheke & Manurewa, and then have results go their way (ie Ellerslie to not get more than 4 points across their remaining 4 fixtures).

They've kept fighting all the way, and this new coach they've got in seems to have seen an uptick in performances/results.

Where was this new coach last week against Taka. They were woeful. Both teams. 9-0 for the U23s and 4-0 for the 1st team.

Was meaning more of an uptick in results. Not able to see the games as I live out of the region - so it's not my place to comment on the on field performances, but they've kept fighting.

Admittedly punching above their level for small club in East Auckland. NRFL 2 probably more to their standard. I was more surprised that Fencibles, who are just down the road and have more resources at their disposal are currently battling to get promoted from that level.

Not been back to the region for years, but always have a soft spot for my youth club/s.

Taka certainly getting it done actually both their sides the Reserves won to stay top beating Ellerslie 1-0 was an even game and avenged their only loss (1st game of the season ) Ellerslie reserves doing better league position wise than 1st team the couple of older heads have had good mins in 1st team this season and help the rest Ellerslie just started to give some U17 lads a go as well (not entirely sure why as have had some regular reserve guys available to play but a few out I guess )but good quality moments from both these reserve sides .
Taka 1st team 3-1 and the 1 was 90th min over ELL
But Ellerslie now play Metro so after Bucklands beat them Ellerslie will need to also try to get a point or 3 from this one  just to reinforce that spot in the league .
Roman can coach make no mistake but just late to get involved .

Went and watched Manurewa v Waitemata on Saturday, 3-3 with Waitemata leveling well into injury time after two Rewa defenders ran into each other.
Manurewa led throughout, and were more efficient in their finishing, but Waitemata were the better team.
Diagonal balls in behind the full backs were the tactics du jour for the day.
Talked to a guy who had been to every Waitemata match, home and away, for something like 48 years. Incredible dedication. He must have seen a lot of shark football, mind you.

Need the Press onto the crazy end of game incident at East Coast Bays v Albany .Div1 game.
Albany coach Clive Campbell has to 75 getting hit by a player that other forum throwing names around this might have been a local derby but totally uncalled for “like any Assault “  this will be a massive sort out for NRF or NZF .
Red Cards etc some serious fines and Court case wouldn’t be a surprise .
ECB Chairman’s tweets indicate a statement to come ???

Always hated Albany, so it doesn't surprise me when I see or hear about dog acts from that club.
He's probably referring to this fiery ending though - 3 red cards post 90 minutes and Albany end up with only 8 on the pitch.

Copy-pasted from Northern League Forum:

" Anyone [know] more about the scenes at the end of the Albany / ECB game? Apparently Clive [Albany Coach] got clocked (someone said King Hit) from behind by one of the Bays players and then all hell broke loose. Albany already down to 9 players on the pitch at the final whistle.

What was that all about then if Bays had won the game? I know Clive can say some outrageous things at times but to result in that !! "

" East Coast Bays player [redacted] landed two flush on Albany coach Clive Campbell after the final whistle. Not sure what started it but would say his season is over. Apparently a Bays player also kicked an Albany player in the head but i didn't see that part of it. It was a big mess and somewhat embarrassing for football. "

"[Campbell's] sons Scotty and Dan have chased after [the assailant] and got him

Dan’s gone to ground [when] the crowd got there. [Another ECB player] kicked Dan in the head."

Can't wait for this statement to come out, should be a doozy...

The two red cards during the game aren’t really indicative of what happened afterwards, they were both second yellows, the first was a guy diving in but didn’t make much/any contact but was probably a yellow. Second came after a Bays foul and must have been for something said as there wasn’t anything obvious as to why he was sent off. Those two 90+10 reds were after the final whistle.

I (incredibly annoyingly because everyone loves a brawl) left just after full time, so before whatever happened happened, so just heard a flurry of whistles from the ref, but there was nothing to suggest biff was going to happen, there were a few fouls late in the game but nothing different to any game ever. The player mentioned on the other forum seems to me could be misidentified, as he is one of the smallest players there, and hardly someone to throw himself around, nor was he sent off after the game. I did hear though via my brother from a player for Bays that Clive got ‘decked’ so who knows what’ll go on there.

Sorry but has since been expanded on above .
Clive has been around but he is 70 ish why would any player attack an older guy especially when he has 2 sons nearer his own age he could have “had words to” ?

As for being without players Albany looking to be without more as well (Ellerslie have them away next week )
Ironic I had a look at the ECB program for the match and it has a page about Sideline Behaviour in there hmmm is that to cover your backside when things do happen “we tell everyone etc etc “

More to come no doubt .

It certainly is interesting to see what everyone is saying.

I can't say to much, but I know that Clive Campbell was thrown to the ground. A lot of what went on was handbag stuff. As the players were trying to walk away AJ O Toole throws a cheap punch on a bays player. What an absolute nob

When’s the Ellerslie Mens Coach Advert going up ?
Ironic Munith didn’t last at Bucklands Beach after he left Ellerslie before Preseason and Dave’s leaving now but good in that it’s s Oct and you get time to talk to whose around .

Have to wonder who you can chase having been saved by only team getting relegated and yes I know season ended early and you’d picked up some points late on to maybe get past Metro if you’d won some more games .

I hear Kris Bright getting mentioned abit he’s one to throw a call to you’d think as he’s worked with Youth which you have coming through whilst having been around good clubs if he can see a few years at Ellerslie as good for him as well then ???
Who else does Fred rate out there that would buy in to “An Ellerslie Way “ ? You don’t have time for anyone to Green and Old coaches seem to want $$$ to turn up ?

Where’s Aaron MacFarland ?
Was ES ladies assistant ?

Who else I wonder ?

From what I understand OS and the model they ran with a basically private academy taking all their junior and youth talent income and then trying to fund their NRFL programme couldn't afford to keep going.

So they tried I guess what was a halfway solution of a semi-merge with Three Kings to create Auckland United - but all that has ended up happening is OS threw away their NRFL spot and the private academy moved to TKU/Auckland United.

OS probably feel they financially now can start back along the talent pathway so voted that way at a recent AGM.

Watched Bucklands Beach vs Franklin United at Lloyd Elsmore Park yesterday. 2-2, incl one pen for both sides (neither of which looked deadset to me). Henry Fa'arodo captains Franklin and was by far the best player. The big chunker up front for BB (#18, I think) had a great touch but the acceleration and fitness of an OAP. Franklin keeper has good hands and reflexes, but causes heart attacks with his positioning.
A lot more goals could have been scored had any (any!) players on either side showed an ounce of anticipation.
Chips had too much salt on them.

Dramatic afternoon at Stanmore Bay in top of table clash ended up Hibiscus 3 Ngaruawahia 2
Very even first half with Narra just shading it perhaps ended up 0-0.
Quiet fiesty at times as HBC decided to be more aggressive after getting physically dominated in 1st round.
HBC went 2-0 up after a Trent Mayes goal from a few feet after some pinball following a free kick , then a consummate Adam Dickinson chip on the break.
Narra then had a goal disallowed after advice from AR.As you can imagine this didn't go down well.
Narra then scored with a long range effort with 10 or so to go.
Then In injury time Narra equalised following a scramble at a corner.
Then HBc scored the winner in identical circumstances in about the 6th minute of added time.
So HBC go above Narra by one point.
Don't know the West Auckland result but if they won then they would be top on goal difference from HBC.
Last game next weekend has HBC v West Auckland.
So depending on results any of the 3 could win the league and get the automatic promotion spot.
Runner up enters a playoff with NL1 second bottom I think
With the NL 2 league being disbanded the rest end up playing in some pub league.
Will be an interesting round next weekend.
Whatever happens the promoted sides will have to lift their game.

Well if last weeks 96th minute winner wasn't dramatic enough then todays action at Stanmore Bay probably surpassed that in the promotion clas.HBC (3) v West Auckland (3) doesn't tell the full story. Wests ahead 3-0 at half time and Coast came back with 3 goals in the second galf. Two by Trent Mayes and the equaliser a stunning vollet from Mitchell Browne which went through the net.So at full time I left knowing the HBC had promotion but didn't know what the situation was with the title although judging by the celebrations it seemes that the title was also theirs. On getting home I saw Narra had drawn 2-2 with Franklin so table i think reads HBC 1st , Narra 2nd and Wests 3rd.I would suspect that during the afternoon that order was reversed.Great entertainment although a niggly clash and I lost count of the bookings.Wests a very niggly side and did knock HBC out of their stride.Big crowd beside the seaside. On a less positive note historonics at EPL level are grating so at NRL2 are even worse (looking at you Wests),Given the number of young kids watching today not a good look and I felt the officials could have been a bit tougher on some of that nonsense,Stanmore Bay will be rocking tonight

i will bite - who are the big signings?

Of the ones they have announced so far Harry Bolton-Roberts looks the biggest name, obviously Jason Hicks has some pedigree but will need some support in midfield, but if he gets that he can hurt teams with set pieces.

Who else is donning the maroon this year?

yeah Tinashe was there last year I believe but yes he will be a handful at Div 1.

Some bizzare pre-season results and it will be interesting to see how the promoted sides from NRFL Div 1 (NRFL Championship) go in the Northern League, WCR signed basically a brand new team and Rewa have got a few english pro's in.
