Unused sub as Seattle spank Portland 6-2, in Oregon. BT maybe starting the next game! Colombian Fredy Montero, and Peruvian Raúl Ruidíaz both with doubles for the Sounders.

The 5th Sounders goal a beauty. From watching the fans obviously a genuine rivalry between the 2 clubs/cities.

Unfortunately Timbers can't hang on for the win, SKC grabbing a 91st min equaliser. Still a vast improvement from last time out.

In the West SKC drop to 2nd, Timbers stay 7th. Full game Tuiloma. Both him & the keeper could have done better for Kansas's goal.

Full game as Portland (8th in the West) lose 3-1 at Austin (12th). Timbers 3-0 down after 29 mins.

Tuiloma (no 25) has a cross sail over his leap for Austin's 2nd goal. Then he saves off the line, but unfortunately home team quickly follow up to score their 3rd. Cool looking stadium they have.

If AWs do get some friendlies in Oct/Nov windows, ideally want Portland & Chicago out of playoff contention, so hopefully both Tuiloma & Collier available. Likely Boxall's MU will definitely be in the MLS playoffs, which I think clashes with Nov FIFA window.

A lot of the MLS stadia are great, they’ve made it a big point for new teams to have their own specialist stadiums to avoid rent and stadium share annoyances. Minnesota’s home ground was finished a bit after their entry, before they were playing on an NFL pitch, painted astroturf and all. Opposite of A League where you have several teams across several sports sharing the same grounds.

Hay letting Singh go to Jahn instead of Tokyo shows he’s up to allowing players stay at key times, and then he’ll get the MLS contingent free for January, though if there are Oct/Nov fixtures could be a couple debuts/recalls for guys who are conveniently in Europe/US (Musa, Billingsley, Rogerson, Stensness, Wilkins, Stevens and De Vries etc).

No Tuiloma last time out if memory serves? I'm gonna choose to believe he's solely responsible for the 6 goal swing.

Full game Tuiloma, who has a header come back off the crossbar very early doors. Then inadverently provides an 'assist' of sorts for RSL's goal.

Top 7 teams make the playoffs, and Portland now with a 7 point gap back to LAFC in 8th. Minnesota 6th (game in hand) 4 points ahead of LAFC.

8-9 rounds still to go in the regular season, so neither Timbers nor MU anywhere close yet to being locked in for the playoff spots.

Unused sub as Timbers (4th in the West) grab a handy 2-1 win at LAFC (9th).

Portland (43 points) now with a 9 point gap on Vancouver (8th & 34 pts), with 6-8 rounds left for all MLS teams. Top 7 make the Conference playoffs.

So Timbers now looking a pretty strong chance of making post season. Is tighter for Boxall's Minnesota (7th & 37 pts). As well as Vancouver, LAFC (9th, 33 pts) & San Jose (10th, 33 pts) are chasing hard for playoff spots.

MU travel to Dallas this weekend. Win that, and teams below lose or draw, and Coach Heath should be more relaxed on Boxall missing MU's MLS game 11th Oct, and returning for game 17th Oct after a 40-50 hour return trip plus game(s) in Bahrain with AWs.

MU lose this weekend and teams chasing them win, Heath won't be happy about Boxall snr heading off, with their MLS season on a tightrope.

Good news is Tuiloma returns from injury and has a full game. Bad news is it's a loss, as Timbers lose 2-0 at Colorado (3rd in the West).

Portland still 4th, but after 3 consecutive losses will be a bit nervous, now. RSL in 8th only 4 points behind, with a game in hand.

BT saves off the line late on, preventing a 3rd goal.

Full game and a yellow in a 3-1 win at Real Salt Lake (8th). Impressive result with RSL chasing a playoff spot.

Win finalises Timbers (4th) spot in playoffs with 1 regular season game left. Portrland also cannot finish lower than 4th now, so I think that means get home game in initial 'playin round' of playoffs.

Nothing riding oin the game, as Portland already have 4th locked in (they can't finish better or worst on the ladder). Home playoff game in first round playoffs.

So I guess they have let BT fly out early to the UAE?

In return they may ask Hay, that Tuiloma misses the Gambia game as only 4 days pre their MLS playoff game, ie returns early from Abu Dhabi. Will be about 20 hour return trip for him after all.

That's all presuming AWs actually have another game pre Gambia! Still no news.

Interesting take from this week's Flying Kiwis!

Good form and impressive unit that he may be however, Bill Tuiloma was left out of the squad for the regular season closer. Initially it seemed like a matter of resting him ahead of the international break, trying to keep him as fresh as possible for when he travels... but then the All Whites announced that he’d been withdrawn from the squad with injury.

He was fine the other day but remember he got injured for the All Whites last window and the playoffs are immediately after that trip. Smells like shenanigans... but fair enough given it’s a friendly game for Aotearoa compared to the culmination of the entire season for Portland.
