I doubt he'd even count as an actual import :) was over here for TV work and played a couple of games because he could, really...
Dan Carter played lower level football here, before playing with some decent names in Europe...though a local I guess

Played non-league in England before moving to Gisborne City and then went back to England to play for Barnsley. Had a second spell at Gisborne City again before heading to England again with Cambridge United, Sheffield Wednesday and Doncaster Rovers.

Played for Woolston and Christchurch City (a subsequent amalgamation of Woolston and Chch Technical) in the national league in the late 1990's and early 2000's

Clem played national league in the summer for Woolston in 1997-98 which became Christchurch City (a temporary amalgamation of Woolston with Tech for national league purposes 2000 - 2002) and played for Chch Tech in the old Southern League (which became the South Island League briefly before splitting into Southern and Mainland Premier Leagues) in the winter in the same period. He played for Western in the mid-1990's in local football I believe.
Woolston and Tech reverted to being seperate entities again in 2002 when Canterbury United took over the national league franchise. They merged again in 2007 to form Woolston Technical and that entitiy merged with Cashmere Wanderers in 2012 to form the current Cashmere Technical club.
In one memorable game in the 1997 - 98 national summer league both Namibian international Clem Khaiseb and future Chilean international Patricio Almendra scored hat-tricks in a 4-3 home win for Woolston.

Very talented striker who once scored against then European champs Liverpool at Anfield 1982 in the League Cup.
He was somewhat held back in his career by being a chronic asthmatic (he would need to have a puff on his inhaler during games sometimes).
This explains I think why he never lasted long at any clubs after returning to England after his second spell with Gisborne.
He yo-yoed between the likes of Doncaster Rovers and Sheffield Wednesday and very minor sides like Matlock Town and Harworth Colliery.

Yeah however bad defending was it still took a lot of composure and effort to get the ball in the net.

Had the privilege of seeing a Brooking inspired University beat Napier City Rovers (think it was 5-0) at a packed Nelson Park in Napier . If anyone attended Nelson Park in those days then you'll remember it was probably as far way from Upton Park as it was possible to envisage. Rudimentary changing rooms and what was essentially a giant Para Pool type of arrangement as a fence! Brooking was superb.
I went to this game with my dad and remember it. Brooking was a different class. So composed on the ball. I should see if I still have the programme. We were regulars at Nelson Park back then.
Taking the title of this thread literally, I guess I should suggest Gary Parker who came to NCR and scored a hell of a lot of goals, Then went home to play for Scotland in Rugby. Played on the wing for Scotland "A" against the All Blacks.

I found the programme on the weekend. University had Ricki Herbert, Allan Boath and Glen Adam in the team as well. NCR had Brian Gayle who I mentioned in an earlier thread. The game was in 1984.
